alan kemp
I am really wanting to buy a set of Portal-tek Gen 3 axles but am reluctant to fork out 100% of the cash up front without a cast iron set in rock and preferably law, guarantee that they will be delivered on time. Does any one own a set?
bill van snorkle
From reading between the lines on the Portal Tech thread on Pirate I believe that there are still only a couple of sets in private hands so far in the US, and quite a few have paid up front, so I'd think you would need to be extremely patient even if you did take a chance. Dollethelw may be able to throw some light on current developments. Bill.
Jen
We visited them whilst we were in the states last summer, they were certainly busy and Rob was working his socks off. The demand seems to be high and at the time of visiting there was quite a waiting list. However, I know he was working on a solution to that problem and I'm sure Jez (dollythelw) will have the latest update. As for the axles, if I had the money I'd have a set B) The thought and effort that's gone into developing them seems emense and they did look awesome... however, I was upset that Rob didn't take up my idea of purple-portals.... Chris Abel
Apparently Portal Tech will guarantee delivery within 45 daysfor international clients.Bill. I wish my Disc's conversion came that quick, If it wasn’t for dollythelw's help getting hold of the guys at Prortal Tek it would have taken even longer! It’s a shame that portal Tek don’t grasp the opportunity they have with the Gen III axles and employee a few more people to help them let the business grow and become far more successful. bill van snorkle
I,d expect finances play an important part in their production problems. These aren't refrigerators or washing machines, and the market really isn't that big in the scheme of things, and setup costs re casting /patterns, forgings/dies, gear cutting/hobbing/broaching, press dies, welding equipment etc etc will be huge, even if some of this work was farmed out to specialists. If they employed more staff at this stage nobody would be able to afford their products. I am actually amazed that they can do a complete portal axle assembly at such a reasonable price, compared to what MaxiDrive and Marks 4WD Adaptors charge just for just portal drop boxes. bill. Portal Tek
I would be happy to answer any and all questions for you guys regarding our axles. We built and engineered them with heavy offroad use in mind. Feel free to call or email me at any time. I look forward to getting more of our product to you on the other side of the pond. Portal Tek
Also, to see some GenIII's in action, take a look at this: Look at time 1:35 to 2:20. That would be our sponsered buggy on Gen III Front and rear steer, 500+hp.

FridgeFreezer
A quick google turns up this: Quote Torq Axle bought the Portal-Tek rights and can supply anything you can't get from an auto parts store. Portal Tek themselves have long been out of business as far as I'm aware.

Stellaghost
How much drop do you get with the portal boxes ? and also interesting that the drop is angled instead of straight up and down like Mog or Volvo portal axles, therefore losing a wee bit of axle clearance Regards Stephen
