So best buy know . I help a mate fabricate farm buildings and we worked out this price increase based on 7" by 4" RSJ steelwork. The price increase worked out at 12.8% When you consider that steel prices have increased by 20% over the last 2 years before this new increase it is extortionate! I got £120 for it, which was very nice Finished my new work bench last Sunday (cue inventing shed porn piccy). I decided to cover it with 5mm steel and phoned for a price for an 8x4 sheet of it - £151.20p - bluddy Nora! Does anybody know where I might get some wholesale from? Before anybody suggests it, I don't like heights so church roofs aren't really an option. Uhmm.... explain why you have to put white in your tractor? your moving agricultural waste, you not doing anything wrong by running on red... especially just running to the scrap yard. I've tried the same - I got some old wheel weights from the local quick fit and they looked like lead so I put them into my cast iron pan and heated them up with a propane burner. Unfortunately, they wouldn't melt - they just glowed. It seems that wheel weights are now mostly zinc. Unfortunately, Zinc melts at 420 degrees C so isn't much use to me. Not 100% Sure but is there a mileage distance limit you can travel using Red deisel ? there is indeed a maximum mileage for red diesel which also applies to livestock and all cropped produce plus, carting scrap is as far as im aware, NOT an agreed agricultural practice. it comes under waste management and disposal. just like a farmer requires a special dispensation from the EA for burning ANY waste, organic or otherwise, which still does not cover for everything we once burnt. We also have our scrap 'collected' when it amounts sufficiently (in old 500gal tanks with the top cut off) there are very fine yet ever more defined lines to what is and what is not an accepted agricultural practice, contractors have it even worse, but farmers still struggle to keep right side of the fence on logistical issues but back on topic, this doesnt bode well for me when i need some steel to bend up a new HD rear bumper Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
jetemp Posted March 9, 2008 Share Posted March 9, 2008 Carting scrap IS an agreed agricutltural practise, so long as that scrap was created by an agricultural practise (if you take a car etc. on top of a trailer load scrap you will probably get stopped). Agricultural scrap is actually classed as an agricultural product so wont be treated any differently to a trailer load of wheat, grass or stock. If you sit down and read all the publications on red diesel exemption it actually is fairly simple. It usually idle chat and banter that add alot of the confusion to the whole thing!!!!! discojmz can you fing anything written in stone about the whole limited milage abd red diesel??? we can only find limited operators licencing coming in on a milage from base type scenario. We run our Unimog and tractor on red, neither are anything to do with agriculture but both are forestry related, hence the crossover, agriculture, silviculture and horticulture. I have read lots of bits and peices about red diesel and some of it is mind boggling, but from what I can find from 30 years of looking is, there is no milage limit for red providing the work you are doing is connected with your profession. However, if a farmer moves a load of corn for his neighbour he is then a contractor and is governed by a different set of rules and will need to use white, possibly even a tacho depending on the milage. We are tacho exempt within 30 miles of base, over that we need one (if we are on the road). One little gem that applies to everyone with no exceptions is, anyone taking scrap to a scrap yard or any where else will need to have a waste transfer licence (unless your a pikey then your exempt). I think its around £150 for your first which last's three years then its £90 each renewal. If I take a tree down in your back garden I can sell the woodchip for mulch and the timber for firewood and that is re-cycling no problem - if I do the same on a building site it is waste, no matter what the final outcome .
