Changes to the SVA???

Although at the moment it's just heresay, the ABS is the least of a car builders worries! Things like air bags, seat belt tensioners, crumple zones, Euro 5 emissions, Catalytic converters - essentially everything you would find on a modern car will be required.

ABS would be pretty easy to build and taylor for a specific vehicle - something like MegaBrake would undoubtably appear. After-market crumple zones however are a bit more tricky!

Get those trucks finished!

A new defender does not have most of that . :(

Except for the rather nasty catch in the current (or at least last I saw reported) version. What they're planning on specifying is an ABS system 'designed for the vehicle', or similar wording - this generally seems to be interpreted as one which has type approval for that particular vehicle. So no fitting a Range Rover ABS system to your Series 2, even though it would probably work perfectly satisfactorily. It has to be one the manufacturer has certified for the Series 2...

Of course, even this involves a good deal of conjecture, as they haven't actually defined what they mean by the phrase... This has been on the cards for a while, but I'm not sure if it's actually coming in or not? Seems to have been imminent for ages. Like everything else SVA related (including the current rules) there's very little information of any substance easily available.

That draft handbook makes no mention of the vehicle having to have ABS.

The only reference to ABS is saying if it is fitted it must be fully functioning and goes on to describe how the warning lights should work.

there seems to be a lot of conjecture at this point and little hard fact as to what the new consultation means for radically altered and amateur built vehicles.

The kit car world has a lot of information on this topic as it effects them much more than us!

as such ABS is not a necessity, but IF fitted must meet stringent guidelines

.... and there is still a goods vehicle category which appears to be less stringent than the passenger vehicle category - however, there seems to be little info on this at the moment. On the face of it, it appears that the changes may not be as serious as many people think. When I was having a quick look through the biggest concerns for me seemed to be the requirements for things like crumple zone construction and deliberate weakening of the front of the chassis. Not good for the sort of thing I'll never finish building!

A landrover in Centre Diff Lock and fitted with Locking or limited slip diffs HAS ABS!!!!!! Think about it, or try it You can lock the lot up ok, but you can with ABS also, but you can't lock just one wheel etc,

ABS No problem
