Monkeys at Longleat

Just in case this of interest to anyone, the monkeys in the drive-through bit at Longleat have worked out how to pull the rubber filler strip from the seal around the alpine windows on a Defender roof, Part No 302178.

On other (non LR) vehicles, they destroyed windscreen wipers, especially at the rear, radio and mobile aerials, and pulled off various other rubber window seals. One Peugeot driver mus have been in for a couple of hundred quid in repairs.

We parked the 90 and went through the majority of the safari route in Walfy's. He wasn't brave enough to go in with the monkeys, so we just laughed at others getting the same treatment as you mention!!

I wonder when there will be a Longleat ebay shop for all of the second hand parts that the monkeys collect for them??!!

I think you can collect your car parts afterwards from the keepers. My girfiriend and I have been through twice in her polo (the 90 has a ragtop so can't go in) and suffered no damage- the key is to keep moving! Watch out for silly people stopping on both sides of the road stopping you getting through and allowing Monkey carnage to ensue.

We saw one in front of us hanging upside down from a ford focus' rear wiper by his feet and furiously jabbing the button to open the boot...

Clever monkeys!

the other way to do it is to watch for someone with lots of attachments to their car. followed a transit van through West Midlands Safari Park years ago, it was plastered with marker lights on the roof and sides - the little blighters made a direct B line for it, left all the other cars alone

Although I have never been to Longleat, I often go to Woburn, as I have an annual pass.

The monkey drive is my favourite part, and the little things absolutely love my Defender! All the gamekeepers drive Defenders, and I think all the animals are clever enough to recognise the sound of the engine, because as I drive along, they come right up to me. Maybe they think its feeding time?

Touch wood, the monkeys haven't done any damage yet, but they really like jumping around on my vehicle. I once had about 6 of them swinging on the forest wires & playing on the roof rack.

Is the Gorrilla on the island with attitude still there ?

Waits for the boat to come round...then walks around the other side of the island out of sight....waits for it to come around to the other side and does the same all over again :hysterical:

The silverback on the island just sat there feeding his fat face when we went earlier in the year. Could only see it from 1 side, and he had his back to us. From otherside the bushes were obscuring the view.

We missed the boat, saved for next time. Roof rack and wires sound like a good distraction.

Years ago went thru Safari park (cant remember if Woburn or Windsor) with a 109 , painted as usual (for me ) Zebra. First thing was they went to wave me straight thru entrance, thought it was one of their own vehicles. Then told me that ranger in tractor would escort me thru lion enclosure, as the feeding vehicle was same pattern , and if was stalked to increase speed out of enclosure. Sure enough lioness came after me , no trouble keeping up with me at 35mph , ranger cut across and drove her off at exit so they could open first gate to let me out. Then the monkey enclosure, they were up on bonnet and went to get wipers. everything else had mesh guards over. The vehicle was fitted with external sun visor, with water sprinkler rail above screen for getting rid of mud, they didnt like that  One jumped of but made mistake of grabbing what it thought was snorkel pipe , that was other side , it was exhaust going up thru wing , let out hell of a yell and ran off with hand under arm pit. All in all quite a fun visit. They used to like peeling of vinyl roofs that were fashion at the time.
