remove & examine all the big bore air intake hoses, sometimes the delaminate inside & cause a restiction & if fairly old might collapse inward when the vehicle is working hard.

when was the fuel filter last changed, a new one might help

is the fuel lift pump working as these can affect driveability if not functioning correctly

have a look in the tech archive index for the fault diagnosis sheets for more things to check/adjust.

I did all of those things too, and the lift pump and the fuel pump.

It only takes 10 mins, whip out all 4 injectors and have a look.

I'd still try the lift pump. I think they fail more often than we think. I reckon they go gradually so you dont notice until the performance is really bad. Only 25 quid and if it doesnt work at leat you know you have a good one on there.

the first thing i checked was the throttle cable thats fine with no slack and fully open on pump i have ordered a lift pump should be in tomo i dont think its that as it primed up the new fuel filter fine (but i will replace it anyway)

do the boost diaphrams go i.e split in the diesel pump ???

if i take the injectors out what do i need to look for ??

In my case it was pretty obvious, they were caked (and I mean caked) in sooty carbon crud. £80 and 24hrs at a specialist injector place had them looking shiny and new. Fixed the problem instantly.

The fuel tank may also pressurise with a split boost diaphragm. Certainly does on a TD, so i think it would on the tdi.

right fitted a new lift pump checked the diphragm and hose no splits or leaks checked and adjusted valve clearences and pick up in the fuel tank still no joy its not even worth putting the vehicle in 4th or 5th cos it dont go no faster i know there will be no land speed record but i would like to be able to get to the speed limit any one no where i can take it im near gatwick airport or is it going to end up on ebay ?

There's a couple round here, you could try Surrey 4x4 (Dunsfold LR), or the 'Man for Land Rovers' at the Thatched Garage. There's also InsideOut4x4 at Capel.

Depends where you are in relation to the airport? Pop your location in your profile, may be able to find some local expertise/help?

hi

as has been mentioned before i would have the injectors out and get them pop tested, they basically just connect the injector up to a hand pump and pressurise it until it fires noting the pressure and the shape of the spray as well as any drips before it fires.

If it opens a too lower pressure, leaks before it fires or sprays a jet of diesel rather than a fine mist then they will recondition them for you. Paddocks do them fairly cheaply service exchange but i don't know who they get them from so quality could be ?

Have you tried removing the union from the tank and the inlet to the filter and trying to blow it out with an airline from the filter end, if it has sucked something up from the tank it may have got through the pickup in the tank and is now stuck in the line.

Your only other possibility i can think of then is the injection pump itself

i tryed my mates injectors out of his and he tryed mine no diffrence to both checked and put a air line down the fuel lines i have done every thing?? i also think its the pump inside out 4x4 said it could be the head gasket of valve train but i dont think it is as ive done a block test compression test and a cylinder leak off test starts and runs fine no missfires etc just very low on power i think its to do with the pump (boost part) as only seams to have problem under load inside out also said if its the pump it wood miss ans stall etc

i think im going to have to give in and take it some where ???? :(

A standard Defender 1.4 box on a 200Tdi engine will easily exceed the speed limit, although a 1.2 will allow for a greater top speed yes.
