need4speed
Ive been trying to fit the rubber seal that fits between the windscreen frame and the roof. Its a PITA to do and i reckon it will be a lot easier if i can lube the rubber seal before i fit it into the recess in the roof. Thing is i understand that some lubes can melt rubber. What can i use on it that wont do the seal any damage?
Bowie69
Washing up liquid and water? Warm water would soften the seal too, so help it slip in
Quagmire
Silicon spray? Lovely slippery stuff, only problem is you wont be able to hold onto anything if you get it on your hands. Mr Sheen also works, but is not so good. Smells nice though.
western
be careful using washing up liquid, some have salt in to break up greases, not good for the alloy screen frame.

JeffR
I've just done the same job last week. A wee bit of perseverence and a blunt teespoon handle works! Did not bother with lub, only probs were where the seal bends at the roof corners. Also warm the seal on a radiator, makes it much more flexible. After too many attempts I did these bits first. Mind you you think the bloody seal is awkward, wait till you try to put the frame back in on your own.... really need three arms longer than a bloody gibbon
PaulMc
As Ralph has said, avoid washing-up liquid - it can be corrosive. My preference is for Red Rubber Grease - .
