The Grave yard

Sat at work, looking in my draw where I tend to hide paperwork I wish to forget, I find some pencils and a pencil sharper, "ooh, think I'll sharpen those as they look a little.... blunt" then I twigged I aint used them for years since it's all on the computer or a bit of scribbled pen on paper and into bin these days

I then got busy sharpening any pencil I could find just to rejoice in old memories :rolleyes:

Anybody else used anything recently that seems to have been overtaken by technology or fashion?

my brain.

serioulsy though, a pen or biro for writing; nowadays if I have to open a letter, my hand aches even after a few sentences, so much stuff is done by tapping on a keyboard.

Just been round to non-land rover dealer to get a non-land rover head gasket

89 euro plus VAT

This was with full-trade discount apparently.

I didn't ask the full price.

HOW do they justify these prices?

£75/hour labour charges at the Volvo dealer

£140 for a part the volvo did not need ( + labour for fitting) at the "Independent Volvo Specialist". Fixed it myself and it still works 3+ years later

I had to use a floppy disk to physically transfer a file to a server stranded behind a firewall the other week. I could have cut a CD, but it seemed OTT for just 1 file.

I used a protractor and compass set the other day!!

Also, recently used a scalpel blade and drawing pens to correct ancient engineering drawings!! Got absolutely covered in ink...(mainly cos the pens hadn't been used for years)....those were the days!!!

LR stuff is cheap by comparison to other makes………… just been to the Jeep stealer for the 04 Cherokee CRD………….this is just parts,

Cam Belt 2.8VM …….£179.90

Rear Disc Pads ………£190.35

There are no current pattern parts available for either ……… so I was stuffed.

But at least I am not giving the stealer the benefit of fitting the belt ………… 6 hours at £113.20 per hour.

Anyone know of a really small (dimensionally) alternator...? Output doesn't have to be huge, just 12v tho...

I've considered the permanent magnet motor idea, but its a non starter due to the carp needed to control it etc

It has to be suitable for attaching to a bike engine, as the old one has got to come out to make way for a 35 tooth wheel...;)

Cheers

Pete
