THE 109
Soren, I love the idea of the LT230 front output for the drive, very neat and simple. You will find that powering out the will birdsnest the cable on the drum, use freespool where possible to prevent this from happening. The 10 spline shaft won't last long and you will need to put a support on the opposite side of the drum to the diff. Can you freespool the drum from the diff, possibly using a free wheel hub? What are you using for a brake? Cheers Eric
Soren Frimodt
The second winch being built as we speak, though I am not a part of the project because I had some fixing to do on my KTM What I do have though is a couple of pics! It's being mounted to an '05 TD5 Ninety:
landroversforever
not sure if its been asked before... are you going to put any kind of support for the other end of the cable drum? Have you had any flex?
Soren Frimodt
This has been a concern of many, so far we haven't had any visible movement, but we will measure it when we get to some real world testing. But the way we look at it is that the hub/stubshaft assembly can take some pretty hard abuse when fitted to the axle/wheel and I for one have never seen one fail! So I'm not really concerned about it. Furthermore you mustn't forget that the halfshaft on the inside provides some rigidity too

Bowie69
Impressive stuff, the second one looks stronger and better engineered in some ways, oh and a beast! Like it very much, well done

Soren Frimodt
I suppose It's always like that on the second attempt? But as this one has replaceable stub shaft that is not welded, but screwed into place, it will feature a support bearing on the other end of the drum. Bowie69
Yeah spotted the replaceable stub, good idea, as a bent one could end your winching days I guess, is this a heavier duty one or just reinforcing what you always had....?
Soren Frimodt
I'm not sure what you are referring to mate? Heavier duty of what?
Bowie69
Looks like extra reinforcing on the side of the drum, thicker section steel plate? Or is it just the pictures/lighting?
Soren Frimodt
Well yes the plates on the first winch bend during our second test. And was replaced with thicker ones. But on this winch my mate choose to make these "spokes" to reinforce, along with the plate being thicker. Whether or not it is necessary is hard to say, but it sure looks good

calle-fas
I love them! Are you sure you won't make some for sale? Will any of you go to the DOS challenge comp on Fyn 10/3? I'm not planning to, but a chance to see you guys irl and the winch in action might be worth a change of plans.
