Shant Posted September 29, 2011 Share Posted September 29, 2011 Hi all, I need to either do a chassis change, or strip my 110 down and blast and galvanise my existing decent chassis. Can anyone recommend anyone in the South-East (ish) who isn't too expensive, and will do the extra work (engine change) for a reasonable fee? Cheers! Try Paul Marsden, he works next door to Richards Chassis and you can contact him through them, or he sometimes posts on here as Marsie. Mutz Posted September 29, 2011 Share Posted September 29, 2011 well i cant see how they can supply and fit a new chassis for that price, there is no sign of them supplying "new" chassis's on their site so possibly a refurbed and dipped chassis? My chassis is only 3 years old, so, it seems a terrible shame to discard it.....hence thinking about blasting and galvanising it (comes to about £600). If the chassis you have has no number in it then i'd get a new one and swap the bits. . . My chassis was 15yrs old and rusty, hence why i got a new richards one and swapped it over. . . One can blast the outside to their hearts content, but you'll never remove all the rust from the inside with the acid dip prior to galving, leaving the galv sticking to existing rust. A galvanized chassis stands the vehicle out as a target for theft The thieves look under and when they see a galvanized chassis they think this vehicle must have lots of money spent on it. Added value seems like strange logic to me - you won't get back the cost of a galv chassis if you're selling the truck afterwards, and I know my mind would be thoroughly at rest if my chassis was only 3 years old, not 25! wack61 Posted October 18, 2011 Share Posted October 18, 2011 Is your 3 year old chassis showing any signs of rusting, almost all panels in the motor industry are E coated now which is paint applied in an dipped electro-static process which is why you see a 10 year old mondeo with no rust on the bodywork, in the 70s a 10 year old car would be 4 tyres, 4 seats and a pile of brown dust I'd think the chassis would be E coated on a new defender unless land rover really are still working in the 1970s If anyone in the north east needs any parts blasting and e coating I've used a company in Hartlepool called overcoat who made rusty suspension parts for a mk 2 escort look like new Nice guys too Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
