dicsosfa
hi during servicing my 1995 90 i noticed that my rear prop only has one uj at the axle end and appears to have a cv joint at the handbrake drum end hope this photo works http://i290.photobuc...fa/GEDC1793.jpg any help in telling me the type or is this a mod ? Escape
Some LRs do indeed use a prop with one UJ (on the TC side) and a rubber donut thingy on the diff side. I know this is standard fitment on all RRC and Disco 300Tdi and on the P38a 2.5DSE automatic (the manual has a normal prop). The donutcan become stressed of the car is lifted, otherwise no problems. If you need to replace it, it's always a good idea to replace the inner bearing as well, as this aligns the prop and bad alignement will cause the donut to wear very quickly. Edited: my mistake, the picture took some time to load, you seem to have yet another system...
western
Haven't seen a prop like that on a 90/110 before, I've had a look in the parts info & can't find anything like it, it might be from another vehicle range [non-LR]
tacr2man
IIRC these style were an aftermarket offering a few years (several) back for offroad trialling
Bowie69
Looks like a CV joint rather than a UJ...
Tetsu0san
CV joint would be better in a lift situation, am I right? Why are Land Rover props UJ's anyway? Wouldn't a CV make more sense, or is it a cost thing?
Bowie69
CV's are FAR more expensive, yes. Open one up and take a look at the engineering that goes into one, and then compare it to the simple spider and needle rollers in a UJ.
