New drop arm required. Which one?

Recommended Posts

You probably have the 4 bolt Adwest box. You can tell by counting the bolts on the top cover. There are also 3 and 6 bolt versions.

The RHD drop arm for the 4 bolt is QFW000020

Thankyou mate, so if i look down onto the steering box, the amount of bolts on the top cover is the type of box? Or is it the mounting bolts for the box?

This could be a good time to upgrade to a Disco drop arm, which allows easy renewal of the track rod ends. You will have to purchase a new drag link though.

Something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-Defender-steering-drop-arm-ball-joint-conversion-SUMOBARS-/181308130720?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2a36ce85a0

Obviously you don't have to go with Gwyn, it's just an example!

The drop arms can be made to last.If you grind two very shallow grooves in the ball section of the pin.(Very shallow) Then drill and tap an m6 thread in the cap plate to fit a grease nipple.

Makes the joint very easy to assemble dry, fill with grease carefully and it will last years....
