need4speed
Sorry for the completely non landrover related topic. Due to problems with my laptop i decided to reinstall my operating system so i could use my RAVE again. Im a million miles away from being an expert in pc's but have just enough knowledge to be dangerous... My laptop is an old Toshiba Satellite Pro running XP Pro. After i reinstalled the OS a few things wouldnt work (internet, sound etc) but i managed to get things working by installing some drivers. The only thing i cannot get working is my iTunes. Whenever i try to open it i get a couple of messages. 1st one i get is "The procedure entry point ADAdPolicyEngine_DidEnterStation could not be located in the dynamic link library iAdCore.dll." Then i get "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 127) Even though i reinstalled iTunes and it confirmed everything was installed correctly. The only thing i have noticed is if i go into Device Manager it shows a Yellow question mark over SM Bus Controller. I have no idea what that is, or what i do about it? I tried doing a system search for a driver but can see nothing referring to SM Bus Controller. Could it be listed as something else? Any help appreciated
Blanco
Not knowing much, (which I would agree can be dangerous) I would suspect that the outdated XP is the source of the trouble, you will need a grown-up to tell you whether there is a solution though. need4speed
No its definately not because of the XP as my iTunes worked perfectly before i reinstalled it.
task
Go into add/remove programs (start > run > appwizz.cpl) Uninstall anything related to iTunes from here, you might have to google the exact program names but itunes and bonjour should certainly be removed Then try and re-install itunes As for the SMBus controller, you should find drivers for that on the Toshiba website
elbekko
Why on earth would you still install XP on anything unless you *really* had to? Windows 7 runs pretty well on my Toughbook CF-18, I'm sure that's a lot lower specced than your laptop. The missing driver shouldn't be related to iTunes not working. As has been said, try reinstalling it.
Bowie69
XP is good for many things car-related, I have one, but also a Mac Air for work It is possible that you had an ild version of iTune on it, which didn't upgrade, but the newer version you are trying to install won't support XP.... HOWEVER, I suggest you get all the drivers you can for your laptop down off the Toshiba site and install even if you don't think you need them, it may find some hidden hardware. Also, ensure you use microsoft update to make sure everything in the OS is as up to date as possible, and go from there.
Bowie69
Also, to add to that, you can always google the error message, first port of call when diagnosing stuff nowadays: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6562#iadcore That should set you right, without uninstalling anything
AMB
Have you tried the repair option? Open the Add or Remove Programs control panel, select iTunes, then Change... Repair. Some info here
need4speed
Tried all the above. No joy. Attempting to delete and reinstall iTunes. My internet is painfully slow. Any tips on what settings to check on laptop for this? My internet was reasonably fast before i reinstalled my OS
SPendrey
Most likely you need to (re) install the chipset drivers and ME drivers for your system. The chipset ones are generally universal, but best to find the ones for your system. Good starting place is here, and download the automated install tool. V8 Freak
As has been suggested above.. Update everything on offer from Microsoft and see if it speeds up and if the current version of iTunes will install once you are on versions of .net etc. that it might need. Cynic-al
The best thing I ever did to my laptop was take iTunes off, however if you need it I would suggest either your version of iTunes is not compatible with xp or your unintelligible didn't work and you have some files left in the registry or windows folder etc. I would uninstall everything apple, remove every trace of apple from the registry and services directory then update windows, disable your anti virus and download the latest version of iTunes (assuming it works on xp 32 bit). If that doesn't work search the net for tips on removing iTunes or conflicts with iTunes. In the past I've had windows updates cause errors with programs, an Internet search often reveals which one then you can disable that update, however I found by the end xp was reasonably stable. Failing that I suspect your xp install has an error, if you press f8 whilst it's booting you will get some menus and usually the option to repair the windows installation. Generally a hardware error gets a blue screen so I don't think that's the case.

SPendrey
And is the yellow triangle gone too?
need4speed
No. The bloody yellow question mark thing is still there. Bugger it. As long as everything is working it can stay like that. I cant find the SM Bus driver for it. Whatever that does....
Cynic-al
It's an Intel hardware thing, try then Intel hardware installation tool, the laptop manufacturer should provide it if not Intel will. It will be something like chipset drivers or utilities.
