need4speed
Can someone tell me if there is a VDO specific oil pressure gauge sender? I tried looking at the ETB Instruments website for info but the link on their site doesn't work. Nicked the below pic from a different thread but it shows the exact same port I have on my front cover..
FridgeFreezer
There's several VDO senders, the VDO catalogue lists a selection depending on which gauge you've got. Whether other senders would work with a VDO gauge, probably, but no-one really publishes much data on them.
need4speed
Cheers John. My gauge is VDO part 350-010-008K. I'll see if I can find the catalogue.
need4speed
Ok. After a little more searching I found a place called Merlin Motorsport selling them. https://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p/vdo-pressure-sender-5-bar-with-1-4npt-thread-360081029008 They do a few different threads though. Which one does the RV8 use?
western
Europa Spares do VDO items too, if Merlin can't supply
need4speed
Just to clarify, it's to suit old style v-belt cover. Not serp. Don't know if that makes a difference to thread?
Landrovernuts
I have one on my old style v8 and it came from Merlin. Was eye wateringly expensive from what I remember!
need4speed
It's about £43 plus the dreaded.. What thread is it?
HoSS
From memory its 1/2 UNF, but don't quote me on this.
FridgeFreezer
Parts book might tell you the thread of the blanking plug. 1/8" BSP is another possibility on RV8's.
elbekko
Doesn't seem to mention the thread: 2 - Plug-blanking 517689 http://www.allbrit.de/UNI.cfm?PAGE=774147&SPRACHE=EN
need4speed
It appears to be 1/2" UNF http://www.autoelectricalspares.co.uk/lucas-sob302-drc2479-oil-pressure-sender--switch-1377-p.asp
need4speed
And of course it's the only 'kin thread I can't find. Is there some sort of adapter available??
Bowie69
I was able to just remove that plug, and screw it into the oil pressure switch, so whatever that is, it is. 12.53mm OD, so 1/2"UNF sounds right. *edit* BBC has some good info in here: http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=14264
need4speed
Sorry I don't follow Bowie? 'scuse my ignorance
FridgeFreezer
Any competent hydraulics shop should be able to sort you out adapter-wise.
Bowie69
This is the original fitment sender: http://www.paddockspares.com/555947-oil-pressure-transmitter-2-terminals.html
Bowie69
Sorry I don't follow Bowie? 'scuse my ignorance Sorry... will try again I removed that plug from the spare oil pump I have, and removed the SWITCH from same oil pump, and was able to screw the plug into the now-vacant oil pressure SWITCH hole. So the plug, and therefore the pressure SENDER hole is the same as the SWITCH thread, which is confirmed by BBC's post above as 1/2" UNF. need4speed
I'm looking for a VDO specific one Bowie. The original is calibrated for 4bar whereas my VDO gauge is 5bar. Probably doesn't make any difference but didn't want to find out the hard way, which is normal for me....
Bowie69
Adapters: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Water-Temperature-Temp-Oil-Pressure-Gauge-Adapter-1-2-UNF-to-1-8-NPT-033-/281752444719?hash=item4199c11f2f

Bowie69
Ebay is about the best place to find odd stuff like that, I find... more to the pain of my bank account.
need4speed
The funny thing is I looked on eBay for the sender, but when I didn't find one in this country I didn't think on looking there for the adapter..
