white90
As good or better than Sumo (bent to buggery) bars?
freeagent
As good or better than Sumo (bent to buggery) bars? I had a Britpart one which only bent when i got properly hung-up on a tree stump... the Bearmch ones look pretty much the same... I reckon it should be OK... Orange
No problems with mine so far, Tony. I have both the drag link and tie-rod and have fitted greasable TREs. They have been moved around onto/off of various vehicles and are now withstanding the abuse that I am giving them on the Challenger Series... SteveG
Fine on mine too, IIRC they were bought off gigglepin stand at a show. Cheers Steve
white90
Thanks All I have ordered a set. to replace this: PS a QT guard to sort/replace as well.
white90
Don't want another Southdown one options and what have you got/could recommend. as I do not want to be spending on track rods again any time soon.
bishbosh
Blimey! That's going some Tony considering the track rod should have been restrained in the middle by the steering guard! Did it rip the bolts out of the diff nose or shear them off?
white90
Charles all bolts in place and removed fine to get the piece of cheese QT guard off.
bishbosh
I think a lot of the challenge lot rave about Gwyn Lewis' protector Tony.
bishbosh
Hmm, food for thought as I have two on mine....... Thinking about it, the guard doesn't have much stopping it from twisting does it. I might have a think about modifying mine to counter this problem.......
ciderman
Yep , thats the one The Gwyn Lewis is faultless in operation , No more bent track bars , The only con against it is that its difficult to change or remove the TRE from the swivel but if you cut the remaining thread from the taper end it will come apart a lot easier
ciderman
I had a simular affair with my front QT gaurd , Now replaced by a Gwyn Lewis track rod protector and a cheapy clamp on diff gaurd thats now welded in place .The QT gaurds are ideal on the rear as they offer a slide over protection
Steve 90
Only con against it is that its difficult to change or remove the TRE from the swivel but if you cut the remaining thread from the taper end it will come apart a lot easier If I lock the wheel around so the track rod end is nearest the guard mine will come out with the guard on no problem! The guard is one of the best bits of kit ive bought. Used to bent the track rod all the time before I got it but its a thing of the past now. white90
What have you done about the Diff protection on the front Jase/Steve?
ciderman
Tony , Currently have a cheapy clamp on diff cover ,But its welded on. Works a treat
white90
Ideal thanks I won't be fitting a third QT one as they are IMHO carp the Sumo bar is unbelievably hard to try to straighten so I could drive to the garage so I gave up and ordered the new ones. I'll look out for a clamp on diff gaurd now as well.
lrfarmer
I think a lot of the challenge lot rave about Gwyn Lewis' protector Tony. i was thinking about getting one of these but didn't know how much drag it was going to give me
ciderman
Im looking to make up a drag link out of spring steel so it is more resistant to bending , but then is it moving the problem elseware ??
ciderman
i was thinking about getting one of these but didn't know how much drag it was going to give me They only protrude about 30mm below the axle on the Nearside , you wouldnt even notice it , they also have a built in leading edge to assist in sliding over obstacles . ciderman
I think you will find that Gwyns prices are very reasonable and realistic . And its been tried , tested and made properly
ThreePointFive
Looks similar to the track rod guard OEC sell, which worked fine for me. I'm currently selling mine, as it happens...
