  1. This calls for some custom seat covers! 🙂
  2. I have an image of me standing in the living room, blazing away redneck style at noises from the ceiling... 😆
  3. Plenty of birds (with plenty of chicks, judging by the rate they empty the feeders, though I don't know where their nests are), but as far as more invasive wildlife goes no wasp nests yet this year. I'm just at war with the rats - who are well ahead on points. They've worked out not to touch bait, seems they've now leaned to avoid traps, even when lured with suet (only thing that would get them near, and they still managed to eat it and escape more often than I caught them), and they're back in the loft. Not sure where they're getting in, I repaired the felt where they chewed through last time and blocked it up. Got a camera trap in there trying to find out... The garage smells of rats, but I think it's more then using the gully behind it as a run, no sign of them in there.
  4. What's the realistic working life of the current battery technologies? Are they still giving decent range at that point, and if not how much does replacing the batteries affect that comparison? (Not a dig - I don't know the answers). That's true of both ICE and electric - very hard to make any worthwhile comparison when most figures bandied around seem to leave out part of the picture. If anyone knows of genuinely comprehensive figures for the impact of both technologies I'd be interested.
  5. Which is the stake nut socket adapter, if that jogs anyone's memory? https://fourby.co.uk/Transferbox-Bearing-Socket-LRT-41-007
  6. Will either of those give enough assistance? Corsa and Yaris are both a wee bit smaller than a land rover....
  7. Our maybe just to make them stand out in photoshoots to highlight the vehicles "serious off-roader" credentials.
  8. I suppose I should state for balance that the 4x4 drivers round here who treat other road users with consideration are probably in the minority too. It might even be true of any vehicle you pick. Walkers and horse riders not so much here, but I'm well aware there are issues in other areas.
  9. While I agree with your point - how many of us like getting tarred with the same brush as people with big shiny, aggressively driven 4x4s, or illegal off-roaders? - I'd say on the roads round here 99% is rather optimistic. There's a significant number of cyclists who are considerate of others road users, but sadly I'd say they're probably in the minority - especially if you look only at those with road racers and lycra.
  10. Hi @JimR, you've just looked to the forum home page - we'll need a little more than that for anyone to be able to help you 😉
  11. How do the police verify that footage hasn't been tampered with before they receive it? Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting that happened here, just wondering if there are robust procedures in place.
  12. Same here - can't remember what I paid for it, but it's been a surprisingly useful but of kit, and not just for it's intended use. Sadly I'm up Lancashire, so borrowing mine isn't going to be practical. True - but you just need to put it up on axle stands to get the clearance. Gives you more room to work anyway. The alternative is to use the scissor jack to lower it safely to near ground level, then slide it off onto a sheet of plywood and pull that off from under the vehicle. I've done both.
  13. Ah, but if you ever fancied selling them as a production product, that's exactly the sort of thing that means they become a luxury item people will pay stupid money for (and probably put on display as an art work instead of using, which may or may not make you twitch!).
  14. Is that a Defender based land yacht?
  15. I love that - particularly with the basically stock looks.
  16. In the UK if the chassis is modified it's IVA time, regardless of anything else. You'll find plenty of discussion on here about exactly what constitutes a modified chassis and triggers this - not helped by the fact that there doesn't appear to be any consistency among the authorities responsible for this. I'm not going to venture an opinion on where that line lies, but a shortened chassis like @Hybrid 90's would definitely be modified. As he's already worked out in the original post, it'll come down to whether there vehicle was built before the rule came in, and whether he can prove it was.
  17. Looks like the IVA forum is restricted access - if I sign out I can't see it. Not sure what you need though, @LiftedDisco is Settled In, which is enough for most things.
  18. If that is a fast road cam it would have been pretty underwhelming in a defender even when new. More power, but not enough torque where you need it.
  19. I've no objections to EV vehicles in principle - we could replace one of our two cars with an EV and it'd work very well for us. The other car needs to tow long distance, so while nearly all of it's regular use could be done by a small EV, if we did that we'd need a third ICE vehicle (which might end up making sense if fuel prices get much worse). The biggest blocker for use going electric is the cost of electric vehicles. Even a small second hand one would cost more than I've ever paid for a car.
  20. Still the case where I grew up. There is public transport - you can catch a bus if you walk a couple of miles to the bus stop. But once you get into Aberdeen you need to get straight back on the bus in order to get home the same day... And no, it's not an isolated area.
  21. As others have observed, it's not always about laziness (though that is a factor), much of our infrastructure assumes cars. Not to the extent of the USA - it's generally possible to get to places without driving if you live near them - but as already noted even now a lot of employment is built separate housing, small local schools are gone, and if you move into an area you'll often find you have to drive your children to a school several miles away because there's no space in the nearest one - primary schools generally don't have buses either, so unless you're close enough to walk or cycle (and it's safe), you're still driving. I do more than twenty miles a day on school runs - which isn't something I'd choose to do.
