  1. The other thing is ringing up your local takeaway and ordering a meal. They have your card No, expiry date, security code and your address. In fact everything needed to place an order on a website - just need to give an alternative address for delivery. Your card details could be written on a scrap of paper for all (including cleaners and mates of the staff) to see before the payment is processed. Far fetched?? No - it happened to my wife!!! At work we obscure card or bank details on insurance proposals once we have processed the transactions. Others may not be as diligent!! Personally I think card transactions on the net and in person are safer than giving details over the phone, but stay sharp!!
  2. Bling and not at all practical off road (or even laning with overgrown trees!!)

  4. We drove a 110 Defender (Puma obviously) and then a Discovery 4. I was quite lucky in that there were only 3 of doing the full monty Gold tour. As a result we all got to to a good bit of driving. I don't think it taught me anything new, although I have never driven a 50% slope before or since! Some of the side slopes were mad!!! Good fun, but you may find your electric bill or mortgage/rent takes priority!!!!
  5. Well, from personal experience I can say that the gold factory tour was great fun and something that I had to do do before the proper Defender is dropped. The staff were really great and the off road driving excellent (just wish I could have driven it in my own 110). Lunch was excellent too! Downside? 'kin expensive!!! Current Land Rovers do it all for you - it most cases it was "engage this or that control" and "take your foot off the pedals!" The wading in the Defender was by far the best bit!! Whatever you do have a great birthday!!!
  6. In 2004 we camped along with a few others (including Verydisco Fiona - anyone remember her?) at a campsite on the A487 at a little village called Furnace a few miles from Machynlleth. The great thing about the camp site is that they let you have camp fires. I can't recall the name of the camp site but it on the right coming from Machynlleth.
  7. Are the layers separating, or is the whole thing drooping (ooh Err Matron! )
  8. If you are anywhere near London (or likely to enter anywhere within the M25) make your choice of vehicle is LEZ compliant!!!!
  9. I have never found anything interesting in either of my Defenders, however I once did find a pair of retractors (used in intimate examinations) in the back of a car in a scrappy!!
  10. If the sills are not fitted or have been removed, you could consider fitting tree or rock sliders...
  11. For the most part they are Ok or even good (esp when the parts are not ****part). I have however had a few experiences of the packing consisting of the contents of the waste paper bin!!
  12. I would imagine it would be a bit difficult to wire all that in to a vehicle with an alarm and/or immobiliser fitted or am I wrong? Love the idea of pre-heated coolant/heater - it would save on engine wear as well as being warm and toasty!!
  13. Indeed and the earliest hardtop Defender that is compliant is the TD5. Just hope those bar stewards wonderful people at TfL don't start changing the goalposts in a couple of years!!
  14. Just try a google image search - brings up hundreds of images - far too many to link to here.
  15. It was definitely nicked - it was there when I came home and was gone the following morning!! It was a nylon fabric cover - not soft vinyl or a hard one. I am buying a lockable rigid cover and will engrave the reg No on it - hopefully that will make it less nickable!
  16. Have you bought the CB yet? If not, you might want to consider one of the smaller units - I'm considering a CB myself and I'm quite tempted by the Lafayette Venus as you can mount the box anywhere and control the whole thing from the microphone. Clicky
  17. ...and what about the pedal spring on a TD5 - a bit strong or what?! Does not do my back or sciatica any good at all!!!!
  18. Like the topless rollcage idea, but the rest is AaaaaarrgghhhH!!!
  19. A bit O/T but... Have you tried saying pi**ed, but with $$ in stead of **?? It comes out as raining!!
  20. Good point. I'd better get a padlock.
  21. I am cheesed off and in a foul mood as some scrote has nicked the spare wheel cover off my 110
  22. Is that different to the inside gutter on the 300 TDI???? I have certainly suffered with that in the past!!
