  1. Oi do too - 'specially those west Cornwall ones! Well I suppose the original kind of people who bought Defenders and their ancestors were not fussed about heated seats and electric windows. To be honest though I think much of the cost in the current Defender is the amount of man hours per vehicle. Maybe redesigning and re-tooling the body pressings would reduce assembly time and costs?
  2. Agreed. As LR have to have a replacement it comes down to whether it is a corny pastiche that looks Defender-ish (in the same way a BMW Mini and VW Beetle vaguely resemble the original vehicles) or a complete rethink. Personally I vote for a complete redesign. The trouble is that the DC100 doesn't look the part to me....
  3. Received mine Saturday - ooh it is very red!
  4. If it is a Salisbury dif, I have a genuine seal that you can have....
  5. As with most vehicles., it is the last bit of releasing the clutch pedal that makes the most difference! Slow up on the last little bit and you can make some fast and clonk free changes.....
  6. Conversely my 300TDI suffered badly with this, but my TD5 doesn't!
  7. I don't find the Defender driving position uncomfortable and I'm 6 foot and built like the brick proverbial!!! I'm now on my 2nd Defender - a TD5 110. Following a crippling attack of sciatica in 2010, I fitted the Mudstuff bulkhead removal bar and raised the seat on Mud rails -this has made a lot of difference to the driving position, but makes it slightly harder to climb in when my sciatica is playing up. As far as elbow room is concerned I have my right hand at 2'O clock and my my left at 3'O clock and don't find it too cramped. Anyway the choice of vehicle is up to you Discos of all ages are very capable off road - guess I would chose a Defender because I love the tradition and the image!!!
  8. I have just emailed Academy & requested a callback tomorrow. My renewal quote from A Flux is just shy of £600!!!! :angry2:
  9. Don't forget as well that the red dye is only the visual indicator. There is also some kind of chemical trace that can be found in extremely small concentrations.
  10. For those of you who can run on SVO or a mix of SVO & diesel, there is a shop on Teville Road Worthing near to worthing Station that sells veggie oil £20.99 for 20 litres! Sorry only saw it in passing, but it is a Turkish shop between Railway Approach and Oxford Road. It is times like this I wish I still had my 300TDI! My TD5 would not like SVO!!! Hope this is of interest to someone!!
  11. Loosen the nut right off, screw it back at least three turns, whack close to the column with a rubber mallet and the job's a good'un.
  12. Forgot to say to make sure that your temporary live feed has a low resistance fuse in it!!!
  13. Probably - I'm jealous!! Not only did you get the good set, you didn't get the ear ache from my wife about the ill fitting covers!!!
  14. Hazard relay would have been my 1st choice, but you say you have replaced this. Personally I'd be inclined to make a temporary live source and feed this in turn to all the + connectors from the indicator stalk to to the indicators.
  15. Yeah sounds about right to me!!! (except when mine went like a rocket I called it "turbo, nutter B****d Mode!!!").
  16. Hmm - not my experience. The Cover King covers I bought were miles too big and the waterproof coating inside degraded to form a nasty sticky substance like chewing gum!!! To be totally honest I ditched them for Lidl's seat covers - no joke! I subsequently sold the Defender and bought a later model and fitted Escape Gear Canvas covers!! (you may however need to speak to your bank manager in advance!)
  17. Some models don't have them. I think the later 300TDIs didn't have the low fuel warning light, but it was brought back for the TD5. When fitted it is in the lower dash panel along with the parking brake warning light, indicator tell tale etc. It might be worth a look next time you have the dash apart in case it is just a blown bulb. My old 300 TDI used to be good for another 80 miles or so after the needle entered the red zone.
  18. I don't blame you for not wanting it hanging off the back door, but have you tried lifting a bonnet with a spare wheel? Whilst I can do it, as someone with a bad back it is not something I would wish to do very often, which is why I have a swingaway wheel carrier fitted at the back.
  19. Well, my Dad's one lasted a year or so and I think mine lasted about 18 months!
  20. Well in my experience Sparkrite alarms are not the most reliable!!! Multiple level security is the only way and do not publish details on an open forum! Certainly people do not generally take much notice of a car alarm, but a loud alarm sounder inside a vehicle is good idea.
  21. I've never tried Tesco's screen wash, but I would not imagine it to be necessarily bad (after all I have no probs with Lidl's!!) .What concentration are you using?
  22. If you ask Les nicely he may have a reinforced clutch fork.
  23. Well to be honest if you can't easily retrieve it with a "grabber" type tool, then unless you have fuelling issues I'd leave it!!! I don't think it would cause a blockage, but if it does then you could buy a new fuel tank!!!
  24. I always use Lidl's finest!!
  25. My 2002 TD5 Defender has a heated front screen. To be honest it is not brilliant at clearing the screen when it is really frosted up, but once you have scraped the ice from the screen it keeps the frost off until the heater (eventually) kicks in!
