  1. Never had any problems with them via mail order to France and Ireland. Prompt replies to email enquiries too. Course, it only takes one bad experience to put you off, but I'll continue to use them.
  2. After looking at the amount of space on the passenger side due to the wiper motor, I decided to mount mine either side of the fuse box, on a small MDF frame. At least they point the correct direction for sending sound to the occupants, even if the actual speakers are pretty poo.
  3. Not really a very difficult drop. It's more technique than speed required in sucessfully running such drops, you can't just paddle over the middle of them without boofing and expect it'll all be grand.
  4. I had a 1/2 loaded 200tdi in 40 degrees with no viscous fan and probably only about 1/2 the fins left on the radiator and it only heated up on prolonged hill climbs. Standard temperature gauge fitted but they definately run cool.
  5. No taxi subscription, just a large tool chest in the back. Think if I was commuting in the 110 I might sign up. Was a member of the AA while I had my 306. They were good the 2 times I had to call them.
  6. well, gooder news I suppose. Now that it's making more noise today, seems its the wheel bearing after all. So, should be easier than anything cluth/box related.
  7. Did you do this on a Salisbury diff? Didn't know that that was possible. How easy a job is it? Mine's got a fair bit of play and is pretty clunky.
  8. Cheers Les, In neutral, with the clutch in, there's no noise at any revs so am I right in thinking that this discounts the release bearing? Have a bit of a brain fade as to whether it could be the cluth or not, tis Monday after all
  9. Do 90s have alpine lights? maybe not, but my 110 had a gap of about an inch in the seal
  10. Hi, sorry this is completely off topic, but y'all know your stuff and are kind souls, so maybe you could point me in the right direction. My newly acquired more-reliable-than-a-land-rover (ha!) yellow van is sounding sick. There's a bearing howling at about 30mph, and around 60mph. It's related to road speed not engine speed. howls on power and over-run but not in between, stops when I dip the clutch presumabley cause there's no load. It sounds like it's somehwere around the front left (clutch/gearbox is front left). Don't feel any unusual vibrations. First thought was wheel bearing, but given that it stops when I dip the clutch is this possible? Thought a wheel bearing would howl, load or no load. If not could it be the gearbox output? Clutch release bearing would be related to engine speed not transmission speed so I don't think it's that. Van is a Renault Kangoo 1.9D (Yellow) Anyone any ideas? Land Rover content: If any of ye in your Land Rovers see me at the side of the M50 this evening, kicking a yellow van with only 3 wheels, please pull over and say hello.
  11. That's pretty cool, considering the French economy at the moment. I was "contracting" as they call (really a way of getting rid of you after 3 months, you don't earn more) it in the Alps for a while and was earning about 1/4 of that. Toulouse is a very cool city, I'd be tempted
  12. That's a HELL of a lot more than the IT contracters get paid in Airbus in Toulouse. You sure about that figure? French rates in general are terrible and I'd be surprised if they'd compare with UK rates.
  13. It's so quiet in here all your Defenders are either working perfectly, or ye are all outside swearing under them.
  14. I had what I thought was a dying front diff. Horrible clanking noise when coming to a stop or moving off. Turned out to be the brake pads moving slightly in the calipers. How they've bedded in a bit, they rattle all over the show, a sound to which I'm now oblivious.
  15. Sorry to hear about your truck. Has just got me thinking that now my truck is off the road for a while, it's sitting in the garden uninsured. Dunno what I'd do if it was swiped. Now, wonder where my old mobile phone is.
  16. Always wondered why that was never done. So, why isn't everyone doing this? BTW, on the steyr site, what the buggy on the bottom right, below the hummer? Looks like loads a fun
  17. Actually, it's very pro- X-eng. If you've a free day or 3, check out the Scrapirion thread, the one with 10,000 views.
  18. Performance sounds similar to my 200tdi 110 with nearly 200k miles on it. How many miles on your 300tdi? Check there's no air in the fuel lines and maybe a compression or leakdown test to rule out problems with the engine itself. There turbo wasn't damaged was it, is it spooling up properly? Maybe timing out slightly? blocked intercooler?
  19. not a complete hijack of your thread I hope, but how do you know what the the stuff in the biodiesel pumps is? diesel/bio mix or 100 bio diesel?
  20. ya, three please. no 4 foot diameter one for the van then?
  21. Jeez, pages being added to this thread faster than I can read it. Who said this forum was quiet B) Si, along with the others to offer my support. SR have never got my trade and never will. Now sign me up for a few stickers. Wonder how a 4foot diameter one would look on my new yellow van.
  22. Now listen, there was something sticky on the handle of the screwdriver that altered the trajectory as it left my hand. You weren't there so you weren't prove otherwise. Funny, it didn't hit the window hard at all and I stood for a few seconds in disbelief that 1) I has missed so horribly and 2) that the window was actually shattered. The disbelief continued as the window fell into the seat.
  23. In my morning commute, I'm amazed how many times I see a bike nearly taken out as they ride between lanes and people change lanes without looking. (the M50 car park, for those of you who know it) As for my first crash, had it this summer, in my driveway! Was heading to the shop for something and after realising I'd forgotten my wallet I turned back to the house. Heading down the driveway at a bit of a lick, i put the already slick front wheel just off the driveway, while trying to go round a right hand bend. Lots of under-steer followed before a little sortie into the bushes and trees before coming to an abrupt stop against a slightly bigger tree. I've since glued the indicator back on, but left the slightly mangled wing as it adds further character, plus matches the ding on the opposite wing from the previous owner. My passenger wasn't too impressed at the amount of vegetation that came in the open window on her. B) She did laugh a week later though, when I threw a screwdriver through the (now closed) passenger window. I had been aiming for the (open) driver's door
