  1. Hmmm A while ago I bought a new Lucas column switch for my 90 - the one on it worked but had some play in it compared to my previous 90. the switch that came is brand new, in the right packaging, and looks fine except that it has more play than the one that’s on there. Its still in its box years later. Your post makes me wonder .... did quality go down, was there a difference in what they’d sell to LR as opposed to a customer, is there that tolerance in their manufacture, or was it a fake ? All I know is it was a bit rubbish.
  2. Ooo - we might get to see what it looks like now 😊 🤞
  3. I’ve been suggesting to my wife that one would be a good option when she changes her car.... the massive waiting list doesn’t help though....
  4. The shape is an interesting thing - those early Toyotas and the GWagen’s weren’t a million miles away in appearance - so I can’t see that Land Rover can own a slab sided box? Plus if the Jimny was 20% bigger that wouldn’t look amiss as an Ineos vehicle whilst keeping the look of a successor?
  5. Not to digress too much from Dave’s thread - but that’s interesting. My 80 has 4.3 diffs, series gearboxes, 6.5 instead of 6.00 tyres, and a tdi - and it feels lovely. You can drive it and build the torque really smoothly - It just needs a 5th gear. I tried it with a 3.54 diff and it was awful, really awful. Besides making the 4 speed box feel like a really inflexible 3 speed box with overdrive - it (what I called) lugged in the gears, made me cringe.
  6. Loads of good advice here - and definitely one step at a time. I put the 200 links up just so that you wouldn’t rule them out early on - they can still be found for reasonable money - and if you did find significant damage in yours it’s worth knowing they’re an option. Good luck !
  7. I put one in my 80, albeit with a 300 turbo and manifold. It’s a great engine.
  8. Might be worth a look if your local and quick? https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F184032226541 whilst this one is fair money and seems honest within good feedback for the seller too. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F123916278925
  9. Bigj - do a search you find more than one answer to all of those questions. lots of people have put them in different places - I’ve seen them go under a cubby box, though often that’s above the seatbox - but I don’t see any reason you couldn’t mount one under the panel with a big or bracketed. Fuel wise - another drop into the tank is the best solution, but getting at the tank puts people off. Next option is a kit you can get that works from the filler neck. You can also T into the return line - but a lot of folk aren’t keen on that because of the pressure in it and the lack of depth that line drops to in a tank, another option is a separate tank - the Chinese kits have brought cheap ones to the market. Mine is in with the battery and blows into the footwells.
  10. https://www.outsideonline.com/2401929/new-land-rover-defender#close quite a good review Telling quote at the beginning: The new Defender will, “transition from a specialist 4x4 to a luxury SUV,” says Nick Rodgers, the project’s chief engineer. “We can’t be held back by our heritage.”
  11. Sounds like you need a luxury SUV Tanuki! Land Rover make lots of those ! In fact they don’t make anything else ...
  12. Really sorry to hear that Ralph 😒 Is it worth considering a 1.2 transfer box? Do you tow?
  13. Will your fuel pump not bounce about like crazy like that? Or is it not just hanging ?
  14. I spent a bit of money on some directional vents - and I’m glad I did because they have proved robust (my daughter keeps kicking them!) and they feel and look a nice thing too. Pipework I didn’t buy branded - but did look for decent reviews. Silencers - I bought an intake and borrowed a genuine exhaust silencer, and strangely neither made any appreciable difference and I’ve left both off. I was surprised at that, having read on here what a positive effect they had. 🤷‍♂️ The one thing I bought cheap and regretted was the clips - they proved to be carp and I ended up buying again, and better quality.
  15. I thought the issue wasn’t modernisation - but was instead that they had elected to build a luxury SUV rather than a UV?
  16. Good grief. Will you try and twist it back or send it back?
