I have 255’s and love them. I like the extra clearance and the rolling radius - they make the speedo read spot on - and they fill out the arches nicely.
The biggest downside is that BFG MT’s (the KM3’s) aren’t made in that size any longer.
They don’t need a lift - they do restrict turning a bit, but seemingly nowhere near as much as the 265/75/16 did.
If you fit spacers (curse word) then you will need to trim the arches a little to stop them rubbing - and of course clean your doors a lot more.
If I did it - it would look horrendous. I have stable mat as flooring in the rear tub - and thickish rubber floor matting.
I’ll look further into the underfloor waterproof stuff and see what I can find.
If you were being generous, you might say that the huge gap between this Defender and the last one that rolled off the production line was simply due to years upon years of underinvestment - and that if they had continued to develop the Defender alongside the discovery, after the discovery one and perhaps discovery two, then it might look a lot like it does here ?
Arguably - it’s just catching up.
I’ve thought about that. They don’t do the wright off road for the 80” - and it would spoil the look a bit I think too.
I was thinking if I got good adhesion, to well painted alloy, from water and heat proof stuff ... then I should be ok ...
My plan is to do the underside of the floor plates, tunnel, and seat box in the 80. Most of its noise is from the gearboxes - if I can do something to reduce that it will make a big difference. Putting it underneath will keep the factory look too.
