  1. p.s. Load of the emergency staff at the scene told me to buy a lottery ticket - so I did. It's drawn on Saturday. Seems to me that I've already cashed in my luck for a good while yet though...
  2. Thank you everybody - really encouraging responses from you all, and very much appreciated. I spoke to the insurer (NFU) yesterday - they are open to the options of me buying salvage and they are going to ring me tomorrow after they've spoken to their engineer. I suggested they bring it here too so that I could more fully assess the damage, get 'further quotes', and save them storage costs ...... See what they say to that. It all depends on costs I guess. But there is potential for me to finish it with a cat D to drive and have had some money to rebuild it (and maybe even a bit extra to chuck at my series 1). I'm not sure at all at what value they will put on my 90 and what cost they would put on the salvage yet. If it works out cheap enough to take the salvage, then I'd buy a super cheap car to run around in and take the pressure time pressure off fixing this. So hard to value 90's - mine was 2000 but 80k and very clean and well looked after - I see later ones that are sheds in comparison but almost none of its age that are as tidy. A point I'll probably have to argue with them. I'll post up the outcome. Thank you again.
  3. They look nice !! What holds the inner to the outer ? Is it possible to leave the inner in place and just remove the outer ?
  4. Turning the pressure down and getting the wax the right consistency sorted the extension tube out for me. Until I got the white spirit/heat/pressure thing right I thought the tube was useless. Might be worth persevering with a bit more fiddling ?
  5. Thanks James. I'm not sure what's happening with it all at the moment. It seems rolling a Landy is fine when it's done in the air The police told me a 'cross over' is incredibly rare - this was their 2nd in 4 years and it's normally artics. The Highways guys said it was impossible and that the barriers are designed to bounce you back into your own carriageway. I'm sore as hell but otherwise ok - though I'm needing a bit of time to put my thoughts in order too.
  6. Thanks guys - I did get off unbelievably. The car in front braked hard and then hit someone - so he was stopping far faster than a 2 ton landrover with no ABS can. So I went for the gap - but it started to go out of control - I can take some credit for missing everyone ..... .....but how I hit the central reservation and somersaulted it, landing facing the other way in the fast lane of the other carriageway without hitting someone - or someone hitting me - I've no idea. Can't get my head around that. In fact it doesn't seem real - but that's what happened.
  7. Aldi have a half decent tablet for £80 on this weeks special offers - running android too.
  8. I've crashed my 90 ..... The tubs damaged, sills and so on - the wheels are bust and it's more than likely they will write it off. Not sure if I'll get opportunity to buy it back - but even if I do I don't really have the time to either rebuild it or really strip it. Very sad. The plus side though is that I'm in one piece and that's a remarkable outcome.
  9. I put the Shultz gun on my wood burning stove - forgot about it for a bit and came back to it boiling over through the air hole. Sprayed beautifully at that temperature though - and gave a nice finish to the stove too
  10. Did the oil pump bolt on my Td5 Defender tonight. Hell of a fiddle with the 3 link being there, a tense moment when the last bolt started to round, but all in it seemed to go ok. Though oil seemed to keep trickling out the block ceaselessly ... So the gasket and the three places that need a bead of sealant, all had a bit of oil on them by the time I was torquing it up. Finished off in the near dark - swapping out the oil filters and filling it back up ..... and it seems to be leaking from where is joins the gearbox. BLX I'll clean it up and have a proper look in the morning.
  11. I've borrowed a hi-lift attachment to use today that's rather good .... Very stable. Made by Jackall.
  12. Thank you - just bought some I'm fitting side windows so taking the opportunity to do the cappings at the same time I need to get my panels painted yet - but I'll report back when they go in.
  13. I'm going to be doing mine shortly - so thank you everyone it's all really helpful to me too. My replacement cappings are genuine parts that have been galvanised - they are late seamless ones, though I'm not sure what that means - but it will be interesting to see how they line up. Can I ask what rivets you've used ?
  14. I think they did a group buy / manufacture thing on lrsoc a while back.
  15. I can't imagine dislocation suits high speed suspension travel ? Super long travel seems to be the sole domain of crawlers. It's good to see a different slant on this - it's usually long travel vs. lockers. I don't know the answer but it's really interesting. How much travel can you get from a coil over ? kind of presume that you're still limited by the dynamic and rate of the spring, with it either coming 'loose' - or being a low rate enough to be able to compress significantly. I seem to remember Dan saying that most common problems on long travel set ups is that they are under-sprung..... So I've no idea where that leave us. When my x springs broke earlier this year I did think long and hard about using retainers on the springs. I replaced them though - but I am still very curious.
  16. Is it Yan the Landy Man ? With the body being alloy - the corrosion would be only on the chassis and front bulkhead. You may know that - but bear it in mind if you're trying to judge corrosion from photographs.
  17. It's very interesting - I'm sure I read that a few people had used Vaseline/petroleum jelly to good effect. I presume that if it liquifies it still remains a barrier ?
  18. That's good to know ! I'm going to swap out the van sides for windows and plan to drop some galvanised cappings in at the same time.
  19. Is it possible to remove the side panels and leave the roof in situ ?
  20. Would you share any pics please ?
  21. No diagram - but they come up into a little clip behind the cylinder head.
  22. I tried a few things - but when I followed EXACTLY what it said in the instructions, it was fixed.
