  1. I remember Porny, the td5 ecu guru from here, saying they can cause some problems due to changing the resistance on some sensitive circuits.... His suggestion, for a Defender, was to move it onto the bulkhead behind the centre seat / cubby box. If you open the hatch you will see that the cables route from under the centre over to the seat box - so they are plenty long enough. You'll need to drill two 60 mm holes and a 32 mm one (I think!) and you can then re-use the grommets. The 60mm is for the ECU block connector and the 32mm is for the fuse box. I'm going to be doing this soon.
  2. Eek! Seems a small world to have another off roader with a highly modified truck living opposite you
  3. Cage looks excellent! Is that a defender over in your neighbours garage?
  4. My friend bought his 90 from Marple Rd - very good reports for there too.
  5. I'd say Dunc's situation must have been a misunderstanding... I drove 300 miles to see him, in bad conditions, and he gave me times when he'd be there, how to get hold of him if I needed and the best way to come. I couldn't have asked for more. Stephen
  6. Is that the lane near Glossop? I'm trying to put a list of routes together for a trip down into the peaks - and have seen that one. Though from your pics it looks a bit muddy for me - I prefer rocky routes...
  7. I bought a winch set up from them - very nice guys I thought. Treated me well and were fair on prices and so on.
  8. too late I bought them! Sorry! I would much rather have bought from you aswell I nearly gave you a call the other day to see if I could pop in for a visit - I was in Stourbridge - but by the time I was done it was a bit late. At some point soon I'd like to buy one of your EGR kits and after that I'd like to talk to you about what I could expect from you putting a chip in my 'early' td5.
  9. a heavy duty front spring set on ebay, NRC9448 and NRC9449, for £34.00 + £8.50 postage.... is that a fair price? Sorry to ask such a basic question - I'm a new owner and all I've learnt about buying stuff is 'don't if it's orange'....
  10. That is a fabulous quote. If its true then their involvement with PTO driven tools is going to be a horrible affair.
  11. Thanks for the reply Steve. It's not really motivated by wading depth - though I thought the 10AS unit was behind the clocks? The valves and filler etc are on the top of the reservoir, which would fill the seat box. The pipes will be able to exit through the holes the ECU wiring used. I think its the only place to fit it without incurring some compromises on either filling/draining it or routing the pipe work. I appreciate the input though! Thanks.
  12. I had a bit more luck searching for previous answers on the springs..... so sorted there! Here for anyone who turns this up in a future search! Just need to answer the cdi question now......? anyone know?
  13. Thanks! I'll have a look underneath. I read that some people don't bother with a plug on the bell housing because the centrifugal force of the clutch throws it all outwards so it drains off anyway... is that right? or would you recommend using the plug?
  14. 1. I'm going to install a cb onto the bulkhead behind the seats... is there a switched live anyone could recommend that's around there? I'm not brilliant with the new style wiring diagrams that are in my Haynes...... I know its best to have the cleanest source possible, ie straight from the battery, but I'm concerned about it being left on. 2. I'm also going to move the ECU out from under the seat onto the bulkhead - and move the fuses out too. Do I need to disconnect the battery before I remove the ECU? is it possible it might spike it or is it insulated enough? I haven't properly looked underneath yet - but I'm thinking I can drill a couple of holes into the floor behind the seats, use the original rubber grommets (seals) and run the wiring up there instead of into the underseat box. (I'm doing this so I can fit my hydraulic reservoir there) 3. I found this rolling about in the cab? what is it? 4 If I'm putting a H14W hydraulic winch on the front of my truck = what up-rated springs can anyone recommend? would a set of rears be ok? Any help greatly appreciated! Thank you!!
  15. I like fridgefreezer's sensitive restoration......
  16. This is all that Parkers list..... I'm not sure how accurate the list is, but they are usually spot on for what I've looked at before...???
  17. Excuse my ignorance - but why is that?
  18. Maybe one of the ex utility ones the 'defender centre' sell would be a good basis for one?
  19. Are the ribbed ones more fun worth more? I presume they are an option?
  20. Nice and sunny here - I even cleaned and waxed the Landy
