I wouldn’t be embarrassed 😊 I took the output flange off the back of my gearbox just yesterday - only to head back to the car to see a massive pool of oil under it … Like you say… working tired

I also wonder how relevant it is to anything but quite hardcore off roading ? I can’t remember the last time I hit a trailing arm or dragged the chassis rail - and if I was somewhere remote I’d be actively avoiding situations that introduced that level of risk. So I wonder how much of a problem it really is? -

Sounds great Jamie. One of the concerns on these pages was the bash plate coming down from the rear bumper to the axle .. what’s under that? And does it look vulnerable to being hung up? -
I think there is type approval for all of them. Before I heard the furore about it I had (and still) use LED bulbs in a couple of British motorbikes. They have such weak electrics that a low consumption and bright LED bulb in the back is likely the difference between being hit up the back and not. If you know the bulb type - BA for example, then there are tons to be found. Just watch out for cheap rubbish.

Hi Henry ! Welcome. Nice Land Rover and a nice little MG. Any Lane Rover Series 2,3 or Defender tailgate will fit - though I believe there are subtle differences on a S2 ? Perhaps the number of bolts in the hinge being one? I’m not a S2 expert though ! On the flap - a UK company has just started remanufacturing them. Prior to that it was a case of finding an original one: https://www.sp-4x4.com/product_p/320652.htm Seats are sold by many suppliers and are surprisingly inexpensive.

I wasn’t sure if the big corporates has proven that taxes were no longer an inevitability…. Whereas nothing I’ve seen seems to stop the Lt76 leaking 😜 except when it’s empty of course !

Minefield warning ⛔️ 💣 There are definitely bulbs that fit - folk will say they aren’t type approved for those lenses, and thus not legal. So, there is a personal judgement here on the risks associated with that - and that will be informed by how comfortable you are modifying your vehicle away from standard.

I just saw another Ineos video clip on Instagram that I can’t find on YouTube - it’s their guy (looks 14 years old) in charge of designing accessories. He’s talking about the bumper being big as it’s ready to take a winch, sidesteps, wheels and tyres (which we’ve seen and heard about before), a raised air intake that looks quite interesting, and additional lighting. -

I watched your new episode - really enjoyed it. It was interesting how you talked about that place and encounter being edgy, and on the other end of the scale you clearly have some great relationships with helpful people - I’d love to know a bit more on what know about staying safe? It must hinge on knowing the place and people well? or a strong instinct?

Definitely have days like that. We all do. One of the best pieces of workshop advice my Dad gave me was how to spot days like that and to stop pushing the river. Ive still ignored the signs and lost, broken and damaged things though. -

Ah yes - the new Jimmy is very similar isn’t it .. even has the screen in the centre the same. … and I guess all of those vehicles are where visibility trumps the aerodynamic requirement. -

I think very few modern cars have such a vertical windscreen placed so close to the wheel and so close to the driver. I imagine that is quite hard to get round on modern safety standards too ? I can only think of Wagons that have vertical windscreens these days ? And they sit the driver quite a way back from it. -

A bit more on it - they wanted a low dash to give maximum visibility, so have a slimline speedo with some warning lights and everything else moved to the centre. Also saw that it has a built in inverter with a 3 pin plug socket in the back row of seats. Manual handbrake too. Total spend on bringing it to market £1bn - and that may be plus the cost of the factory. On the factory they are going to use part of it to continue to build smart cars - perhaps to generate revenue for themselves?
