  1. Thankyou everyone for the advise. Ill check the pump diaphragm at the weekend, as every time I get in from work its starting to go dark . Im going to give the system a dose of Redex & take it for a good run, to see if that helps. Im also going to try & have a look at the Zues Gears to see what state there in. Ill let you know how I get on. Thanks again
  2. Take me outside & shoot me now. Cheers BogMonster. Ill check those two points when I get five minutes. The power loss has come on over a period of time, its not my daily drive so its difficult to pin point it in time, as it can sit for a week or two.
  3. My 1996 300Tdi Defender 90 seems down on power. The fuel consumption seems low as well. 21MPG. The engine has done 60K miles & im the second owner buying it in 1999. The Defender has got a Safari Snorkel, K&N Air Filter, 235 85R16 Colway Muds, GKN Overdrive, Zues timing Gears, Kenlowe fan fitted. I have just been out & compression tested the engine, the results are Cylinder 1 - 460 PSI Cylinder 2 - 500 PSI Cylinder 3 - 480 PSI Cylinder 4 - 470 PSI The powers there up to 50MPH, then it seems to be lacking. When the engine ticks over it seams to be hunting slightly, i cant tell if it does it above tick-over because I cant hear it. When the engine is revved the intercooler hoses baloon up, is this normal? I cant see any splits or delamination of the hoses, they did have oil in them. Which id expect. When doing the compression test I noticed that the glow plugs on cyliners 2 & 3 seemed very oilly. I changed the 3 holed head gasket in 2006 with another 3 hole gasket. This was done to try & cure an oil leak that seemed to be between the head & the block. The fuel filter & engine oil are changed every 5,000 miles. When accelerating hard it puts out a bit of smoke, but never had a problem on the MOT with emissions. I cant tell if it's using any oil, as it leaks from the rocker cover like all 300TDi's ive seen. Theres no oil in the expansion tank indicating a dodgy head gasket. Has anyone got any thoughts please. Many thanks
  4. A mate in the trade told me a few months ago that Colway had gone bump, & his place was startingto buy Insa Turbo's in. He said the Insa build quality looked better than the Colways. HTH

  9. I want to do a compression test on my 300Tdi defender, as I think my head gasket has gone. Can anyone please tell me the tread size for the body of the glow plug, so I can get an adaptor for the compression tester. Many thanks
  10. email sent. Hope its what you want.
  11. P.M. your email address & ill send you a copy.
  12. Go into the engine bay & unplug the wiring loom on the drivers side that feeds the rear lights. This will give you an indication if its the front or rear lights are at fault.
  13. I fitted one from scratch the other day using the genuine kit from a chap off ebay. The power plug:- Perm live - Cut the purple wire in the fuse box & connect into that. Ign - Sould be taped to loom at the back of the dash orange/white wire, with bullet conector on end. Earth - A bolt on the fusebox, Lights - I used a piggy back crimp on to the lighter socket lights. The speakers you'll need the spacers to fit them to the dash. I used a 4" holesaw from Screwfix (about £8) to cut the holes in the dash. Connect that in to the speaker connector. I also put a speaker each side of the back door. http://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com/extfree...rprod/index.jsp In section 1 click on Defender In section 2 click on Accessory fitting instructon Then click continue. On the second page is the Audio Fitting Instructions for a defender. Hope that helps, if you need any more info give us a yell.
  14. I need a 3/8" Torque wrench, can anyone recommend one. Ive already got a 1/2" onethat i cant always get it in tight spaces. Something around the £50 mark. All advice greatfully recieved.
  15. I've started to fit my GKN Overdrive today. Ive got the unit bolted to the transfer box, just got to fit the wiring in the morning. Mr Hensons tech article along with Western's photos were very helpful, thankyou both.
  16. I fully recommend these, used one a customers disco I fitted a load of warning lights to. I ran a 16mm square cable from the battery then split it to, to feed a load of relays.
  17. Im going to try & fit my GKN Overdrive, if its not to cold. Ive had a read of Les's Tech article.
  18. I run my 300TDi Defender on this http://www.millersoils.net/1_Millers_frame_AUTO_RETAIL.htm Ive also started using there EP90 & ATF
  19. Ill bow to your knowledge i was just working to the diagram i had to hand 300Tdi Defender.
  20. that will be the unit that turns the headlights off when you turn the ignition off. The relay your looking for should have:- White Wire - Ign feed Black Wire - Earth Blue Wire - Supply From Light Switch (Live when dipped beam is on - not side lights) Blue Wire - Supply to Dim/Dip Relay (Live when head lights & ign are on) Not sure about relay location, but that should help you identify it. HTH
  21. Fully recommend the X-Eng Fan switch, I no a few people that have got them fitted & will be buying another very soon.
  22. If the pump isn't turning, a couple of sharp taps with a hammer may help. I've had to do this to a couple of pumps.
  23. A mate in the trade has just told me that Colway Tyres has gone bump. So if you want any of there tyres get them while you can. Hope this is of some use.
  24. I mate has given me a GEW9000 to look at. There's a fault with the solenoid pack, its not out-putting power a you'd expect. Ive tested the motor with jump leads, but the motor still doesn't turn. I linked F1 to A & put a +ve to F2 with the earth on the earth bolt. Then did the same but linked F2 & A, but nothing happend. Is there some tests i can do with a multi meter to check the condition of the motor. Ive pulled the motor apart & the commutor rotates freely & the drum rotates. Thankyou in advance.
