  1. cheers guys, my primary reason for worry was the venting of oil from the original filter. I did indeed prime the new filter before firing the engine up. Going to venture back out tomorrow and attempt more diagnostics. I wasn't sure if the oil pressure light would go out given the use of the remote oil filter, I'm guessing it will. I also assume if it's running oil through the filter then it's also running through the engine?
  2. With the start of spring just around the corner I decided to drag the Series 3 out of hibernation and kick her into life. Upon doing so it decided to spit oil out the gasket between the oil filter and the remote housing. This was about a month ago in some bitterly cold weather so I put it down to over-revved (poor choke setup) and too cold oil. Pushed the car back into the garage and went inside so I could warm up and feel my hands again. Fast forward to this week and I finally found some time to work on the poor thing. I replaced the oil filter and filled her back up with oil, turned her over and she fired up but sounded really rough. Oil pressure light didn't go out. I have since then replaced the oil pressure switch and removed the dizzy to manually run the oil pump with a drill. Oil flows nicely round the oil filter circuit but I'm unsure if this is oiling the engine. I have removed a rocker cover and can't really make out any oil but I perhaps haven't given it enough time. I'm going back outside now to see if manual pump operation will make the oil pressure light go out and run the drill for a bit longer, see if I can make out any oil at the top of the engine. Failing this I really have no idea what can have gone wrong, never encoutered an issue like this before :/ Suggestion are very much welcomed!
  3. Sorry this took so long to reply, basically the engine was in my Series 3, it drove about 20 miles under my ownership before being removed. (IanS actually drove it while I followed) It smoked a little but didn't seem to be making any untowards noises, pulled well and started good from cold. It's a 2.25 late 5 bearing engine, it still has the alternator/starter/flywheel/manifolds fitted at the moment. Having been sat outside for a little over a year I cannot attest to the condition of the engine inside but it's yours for a donation to this forum. (assuming it's still relevant and you cover all shipping costs). Drop me a PM if you're interested
  4. Was this down te road from Leazes park, near the stadium? I saw one there last weekend whilst working in Newcastle
  5. double post :/ There's a build thread in the members vehicle forum if you're interested btw.
  6. My Series 3 is running a 3.9 Range Rover engine, it's not a hybrid though.
  7. I was about to say, I have a 2.25 D engine you can have for a nominal fee for spares/to fit but then noticed your location.
  8. I have to agree with the lack of seemingly available places around the Derby area (live just round the corner from Spondon myself). I shall watch this thread with interest.
  9. My 1992 classic had heated washerjets, I miss those, the Disco doesn't have them. I wonder if they were fitted to the TD5 and if they could be retro fitted to the Disco.
  10. https://www.hubgarage.com/mygarage/insande/vehicles/23042 Caught my eye whilst browsing the web, thought I'd share
  11. Got a URL for the website? The seatbelt mounts for the RRC seats are built into the seats themselves. My friends 95/96 Discovery has very different seat mountings to my 98 Disco. Mine being the same as my previous RRC and his being thinner. The rears should be a straight swap though.
  12. You can't. Sell it and buy a 90 if you want a coil sprung land rover. Doing as you describe will not be legal.
  13. The serp water pump operates in the oppisite direction to the earlier V-belt driven pump, hence the thread being handed differently on the viscous fan units pre/post serp.
  14. Saw that at "T in the Park" thumping out some loud music in the middle of a campsite. Thought bits looked a little familiar but it was behind some fencing at the time.
  15. My 1998 Disco V8 has a 4 bolt flange on the rear axle. I'm guessing this was changed at some point previous to my ownership, which is a little strange as, other than an LPG conversion, it was 100% original before I got my hands on it.
  16. The old man currently has a 4.6 in his RRC (overfinch). This has a remapped hotwire system, X-bolted 4.6 block/serpentine (intermediate) front cover with dizzy. I'm not sure if the auto box has been upgraded but I'm fairly sure the diffs have not. It's behaved itself so far although the autobox is now getting a little tired. Just thought those details might be of help
  17. As above, retro fit HID bulbs are not legal, you need an entire light unit designed for HID.
  18. Yes they can, the old man did it a while ago for one of his. It took him a while but looked good when complete.
  19. You say you have fuel, is it a good pressure?
  20. Is it this time of the month again?
  21. It was more for my benefit if I happen to be close by rather than rely on anyone else. Parking up at a pub or outside a mates for a few hours for example.
  22. I need to replace the straps on my 300 gen V8 Disco LPG, do these look suitable, twin underslung tanks; eblag straps If not then can somone else suggest a suitable seller? Cheers
  23. I shall follow this thread with interest... I have been pondering security for my soft top series 3 for a while now, A loud alarm triggered by doors and an imobiliser is on the cards. I also figured a large chain a shiney padlock through a wheel and over a chassis leg might deter somone. It lives in the garage at home, after i've removed the hood sticks. I also have an unmarked switch that kills the fuel pump and coil. Starting is via an unmarked push button rather than the ignigtion.
