  1. Last one I did was when J33P handed over the organisation to JST. Had a failed drop arm ball joint in the bog in Happy Valley, so left early. I didn't run events up there, just provided a marshalling team, safety cover and recovery. Mostly for J33P. It was fun
  2. As an aside, Dirt Lifestyle on You Tube have a couple of very interesting clips on improving 12volt compressors
  3. Ideally leave it slightly open, or you can put a few silica gel capsules in there and leave it shut
  4. I was trying to work out the last time I was up at the Sisters. Reckon it was 12 years ago , give or take. After going twice a year or more for ten years. Obviously the weather doesn't change. I've applied for a permit for the September bash, with things looking positive. Be interesting to see just how much it has changed. I stopped going after it became popular with the challenge scene and all the fun places had been trashed. Now that Challenge has turned to Ultra 4x4, I'm hoping at lot of the fun places have settled back to being fun again
  5. But then we have to talk Cummins BT6's with him...
  6. You might be better looking at 2023, most people plan ahead, so will have little spare time. I would also suggest looking at time rather than distance as the central point - for example any meeting point that requires the M6 or the M25 to access, adds hours to a journey
  7. I've spoken to the Commanding Officer, asking for permission to go to the Seven Sisters bash... Things are looking hopeful
  8. Yup. Aware that peak torque is instant, but peak torque with a TDi is at 1800-2000rpm. so very useful. And can easily and cheaply be taken up to 250ft/lb, from 195ft/lb. Couple this to the slow charge, low range and huge outlay - it's a no brainer. Stick with biodiesel. Unless you are a farm and use the vehicle twice a day to get the cows in, and need to offset the conversion against tax
  9. Considerable drop in torque - which is interesting and not expected
  10. At 2500rpm, I'm hitting 75mph. 3000rpm is 85mph, after that it's not comfy. I like about 2,200rpm as a nice safe, frugal place. If I was to keep the 1.22 box and fit a GKN, I could be sitting at a tadge over 2k rpm and doing 80! Drop[ in a 1.44 T box and that's 2.3k rpm. So 70 would be lovely
  11. Nice to know it works. I regularly have an all up gross train weight of a snadge over 6 tonnes, and although this isn't a big issue, first is a tadge too tall with the 235/86x16 tyres, so I generally work with all ten gears. I'd like to not have to do that
  12. Cracking site, interesting museum and not far from Coventry Air Museum, which is truly awesome
  13. My dream vehicle, a 460 G wagen, would be fitted with the military spec 5 speed box, this has a low first and overdrive fifth. As I'm never going to be able to afford my dream, I would like to get as close to that option as possible in the Disco. So a 1.44 T box, OD and 235/85's is about perfect. Maybe one day
  14. I would start with water ingress. Probably somewhere close to the control modul for eeverything that's gone wrong.
  15. The Beardy Overlanders, which is , to be honest, mostly the Old Guard from ORRP, have this issue everytime we meet up. We have members from the tip of Portland, up to Newcastle, from Maidstone to The Valleys...and Saudi. We meet up twice a year and always argue about where. As of 2023, we are going to try the regional thing... Obviously the South West is the Best, but needs must when the Devil wee's in your teapot
  16. Other option would be to split the country into regions and hold an event in each region. Say two a year
  17. I'd love a GKN in the Disco. Been after one for years, but the money is never there when I find one
  18. We've found that the 'middle' means Stratford upon Avon, but after the AO show degenerated into a truck and camper fest, we moved to Nash Oakland. I spoke to the owners about a large gathering there, and they said they could get some toilets in for the cost. They have room for 100 plus tents/vehicles in some of their fields. Problem is, it's not the centre
  19. The Yanks still ridicule them. I tend to avoid them, simply because of the bad rep. I use Mahl, Cooper or OEM
  20. I generally buy them from car boot sales. I replace the sprayer tap and lance with the same bore pipe as the inlet pipe, then fic a piece of copper pipe on there, to hook the fill point, then fit one of these in as a flow control...https://www.progrow.co.uk/product/flow-control-tap-barbed?attribute_pa_options=16mm-1-2ins&gclid=CjwKCAjwqauVBhBGEiwAXOepkQ3Opnb31Z-yq_BWTs7UboBWJ1F4waWFSpA6v6bAf2VqzzJokcABVRoCma8QAvD_BwE
  21. Personally I can't get on with them, but I hear great things about them from folk in the business
  22. Local wholesale car parts supplier. I buy all sorts of stuff form these guys https://wrsfactors.co.uk/, probably not one in your area, but will be something similar
  23. I use S&A for my engine oil, but Lucas for gear oil. Texaco for ATF
