  1. strange these debates, everyone has a valid opinion for their own circumstance. i would have thought any halogen over a sealed unit would be better as would something like Phillips Extreme +90 over standard. Whether Crystal are that much better than standard on a Puma I am not sure. They were certainly much better than the original lights on my 300tdi. LED headlamps...............no comment. Please feel free to correct any errors above, just my view. regards
  2. If you remove the ARBs you will probably have to inform your insurance company as you are modifying your suspension. I would think very carefully before removing them Do you have TC? If you do and don't do extreme off roading i don't think ARBs will hold you back!
  3. maybe obvious but are you sure you got all the timing marks correct on reassembly, could be 1 tooth out?
  4. Had them on my Puma 90 for 2 years and they have transformed the ride. Worth every penny IMHO.
  5. mine holds onto a lower gear for longer when colder, especially when very cold until warmed up then it is a normal change. mine is an 06 auto. also - check when the auto trans fluid was changed, from memory it is 60k i assume on age as well. tired/old fluid can affect it as well.
  6. Hi, Further to my tow bar for sale, met Mutz in Norwich today and delivered the tow. What a nice bloke, whenever I have met LR enthusiasts from this or other forums I am always amazed just how friendly they are. As promised I have just made a forum donation and the balance will be going to H4H. Thanks for all the effort that goes into this forum, it is an excellent forum full of very useful info and very knowledgeable members cheers BM52
  7. see for sale section for the forum....i should be on Norwich weekend 14th July
  8. did you get this sorted as i have a 300tdi 90 tow bar assembly needing a home
  9. i bought a 3 month old Puma. Now 15 months old. No problems at all except a rear window replaced under warranty. it now done 10k. i am delighted with it.
  10. This thread reminds me of the pain when i was overhauling my steering and replacing a leaking steering box. The TREs after 13 years where so solidly rusted in the end i bought a new track rod as well. Then everything was easy!
  11. when i did my 300 i bought some insulation felt for about £10 then from Woollies trim and stuck it on with trim spray glue and then added some penny washers about every 400mm along the struts to make sure it did not sag. nearly 3 yrs later and it is all fine. it has been off roaded and wet more times than i can remember. made quite a difference to noise see: http://www.woolies-t...c-126-felt.aspx
  12. Managed a regular 28 mpg on my 300 which included loads of short runs, on long runs it would do about 30 but i don't dawdly. .....and nothing changes, my Puma does about the same despite "improved technologies" etc
  13. I managed to buy insurance on my 300tdi on a Commercial Vehicle Any Driver policy via NFU for £330. i was a named driver, so was my wife and 23 yr son. i checked and it also covered my 17 yr old on his provisional licence. all above board and all declared. .
  14. Hi, i was wondering if anyone on here has experience of sorting out the suspension on a Puma 90. Mine is very very hard and jiggles and shakes on most roads. I have identified the spring colours so I know I have the springs for the 2550kg setup. Mine is a 4 seat XS 90 with no extra weight and I will mainly use it on roads and green lanes/tracks. i will only occaisionally have passengers in it. any idea how i can make the ride smoother, any ideas on a better spring and / or damper set-up? 90 4 seat station wagon (2400 Kg) Front - Driver's side REB500200 Red/green/white Front - Passenger side REB500220 Red/green/orange Rear - Driver's side RKB500290 Red/green/green Rear - Passenger side RKB500280 Red/green/red 90 4 seat station wagon (2550 Kg) Front - Driver's side REB500200 Red/green/white Front - Passenger side REB500220 Red/green/orange Rear - Driver's side RKB500270 White/green/pink Rear - Passenger side RKB500310 White/green/purple
  15. i trusted the re-build to get it right - silly me ! i'll follow the Rave manual then cheers
  16. bit of advice please i recently put on a recon steering box [followed the tech threads] and although it steers straight and feels solid on the road it won't self centre any more. i did not replace the steering damper, not sure exactly what it does. thanks in advance
  17. Hi i have a very standard 90 300tdi which needs new bushes on the rear shocks - MOT advisory. it has been waxoiled and everything is covered in it. any idea how i can tell what's on there? i am assuming they are just standard LR shocks but it does bounce a bit unladen at the back at times so i was wondering if they are hard shocks. 4 x 6footers in the rear and the back drops about 2 inches to give you an idea. the ride is fine, does'nt lean much on corners and drives very well so i don't want to ruin the set-up. also - there is no sign of drop/sag at the back or the front so can i just replace the shocks? thanks
  18. i had a similar problem a few weeks a go - i was convinced it was the rear diff etc. it turned out to be my o/s/r inner wheel bearing. i put on 2 new bearing and everything was smooth and silent again.
  19. do you have to go to a dealer to get original shocks? can yolu get them from Bearmach or similar? cheers
  20. i'm also interested in opinion on this topic. my 90 is also standard and i want to keep it standard hight but i need to replace the rear shocks [MOT advisory]. i was thinking standard - but what is standard? cheers
  21. thanks for the reply. the finish on your 90 looks great. does the paint flow easily? it just looks to good to be true i need to get a top o/s corner on the bulkhead fixed before i paint, i am hoping to get it done outside once the weather warms up a tad. can you advise how long it takes to dry? regards
  22. Hi after a bit of advice please. my defender is looking a bit tired and needs to be be freshened up a tad. question - what is the best way to paint the 90 using coniston green enamel paint for someone who does'nt have the facilities to spray paint or even know how to spray paint? thanks
  23. don't know about the experienced people on here but i found replacing the steering box quite straight forward apart frpm those 2 horrid pipes bolts on the top of the box. how on earth do you get a flat spanner on them let alone get any leverage to get the damn things undone. one of mine had a bent a rusty pipe so i was almost happy when i had to cut the rubber pipe and put on a new one !!
