  1. This came up elsewhere and this was one reply posted: "The 7th digit of your chassis number should be the original body type. A for utility or M for station wagon" Seemed to be general agreement that it correlated with those vins of people involved in the post.
  2. What was the problem in the end and what worked to solve it?
  3. Who to though? DVLA in my experience are generally unhelpful and unwilling to listen. The LEZ is an issue on all land rover forums i have looked at - together there is quite a body of people that are affected by this. Would LRO magazine or the like take this on as they must have contacts that can put this to a higher authority...
  4. I agree. Its just another example of how the rulesare all over the show where our vehicles are concerned and that one bit of the government doesnt know what the other is doin!!
  5. Rubbish!! Since mine is a genuine CSW do you think i have grounds to get the revenue weight removed from the v5? Its not a commercial vehicle!
  6. That article indicates that as it is a 110 it wont be under the weight limit for the class 7 mot - but i dont know much about that so may be wrong.
  7. So if i've read that right, as i have a 110 with a v5 that states the revenue weight i dont have a hope of becoming LEZ exempt? I doubt i can persuade the DVLA to remove the revenue weight from the v5.
  8. None of the info they have given you makes sense. Why are some peoples 110s and 90s compliant and others not if it all goes on weight? There are a lot of people with vehicles that are compliant but loads of us with them that are not.
  9. What about the bearings in the turbo leaking oil into the intake? Explains poor performance and the running on oil bit. Not sure it accounts for the rough idle though.
  10. I think Seans pics are already what you want to see - that is an example of a tablet. Very neat by the way Sean - nice solution.
  11. Yeah, i kept thinking about that, but with the price of netbooks as low as they are, i think the in car PC and touchscreen job loses on price and security. A netbook (slowish processor i know but up to the job) with an internet connection - perhaps via a mobile - and a proper mount will be just as tidy and removeable.
  12. No ideas, but will be watching as i want to do the same.
  13. Put your location up - there might be someone local who will go with you.
  14. Dont Ashcrofts supply an additive like that to put into their new boxes? Wouldnt have thought they would sell it if they didnt think it would do any good. On another note, is it normal to change oil after 400 miles? running in i suppose. I've put a recon box on prob 6000 miles, but havent changed the oil yet - is this wrong?
  15. Now that is progress! I was under the impression initially that the compliance checker would have to link to the external sites when performing the check - it quite quickly became obvious that that wasnt the case - they have downloaded a database once and never updated it!! If defenders are re-classified, will that include those of us with pre-defender vehicles - i.e. mine is a 110, not a defender!?!
  16. Thats where i'm up to. No reply as yet. All the people i've spoken to who are exempt have estate on the v5 so that is what i am arguing (since mine now says estate). I'll let you know how it turns out.
  17. I did read that. Did you register with their online form or just write to them? Also, if they consider all defenders vans, why are there a large number that are exempt? - it seems to hinge around the words estate or light 4x4 utility on the v5 from what i can make out - what does yours say on the v5?
  18. Wot he said /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ Yours is an estate which is why it is exempt - it is nothing to do with age. Age only affects the Road tax - i.e. before or after 2000. What is more, it seems that even if you do get your vehicle re-classified, TFL do not re-check the DVLA files every time you do a compliance check. It seems they downloaded the data once adn to change it on their system after changing body type with the DVLA you have to register with TFL. That said - i dont know if this works yet as i have had no response from TFL even though i sent the application in just over two weeks ago.
  19. Badger, the bit about the pre-2000 being LEZ exempt isnt right - see my post in the International forum.
  20. Why before 2000? My 110 is registered before 2000 and is still liable for the charge. It is only road tax affected by the 2000 cut off. I'm currently arguing with TFL that my 1989 110 is registered as an estate (got that changed from light 4x4 utility on the V5 as it is a CSW) and therefore shouldnt be charged LEZ. I live just outside the M25 so will have to venture in there at some point.
  21. Price will go up if you do. My 110 has a tdi retrofitted, but is probably worth 1500 - 2k if i sold it - i'm not by the way! (i'd hope for more, but think thats realistically what its worth). Older Discos with the tdi engine can be picked up fairly cheap - cheaoer than the defender so that may be a better option for you as suggested above.
  22. I would say it really depends on the actual condition of the chassis. Its been plated, but is there a whole load more that needs doing? If the plating is good and thorough and the crossmember is good then it might be worth considering. Do you do lots of motorway driving? - you wont like the engine if you do - its not going to be quick (probably a very loud 60ish mph top). They are reliable though - so lots more life left if thats the original mileage and the servicing has been good. Might be worth offering £1000-1150 if the above is ok.
  23. If only that had been around a year and a half ago when i got a recon LT77s from them!!
  24. Beginning to sound like i got an ebay rip off!
  25. Disco Jacks on ebay as Ralph suggests. Got mine for about £25. The great thing about them over other bottle jacks is that they come with a curved top that engages safely on the axle. Brealers might be even cheaper.
