  1. Oh, just drop the box again (you'll be great at it by now !!) and you can shorten the pushrod with it held in a vice then!
  2. You could shorten the pushrod and forget the spacer for the slave cylinder couldnt you? Glad its so nice. I wish these had been available when i cahnged my LT77 for an Ashcrofts recon. The LT77 is fine, but yours sounds better!
  3. Perhaps a silly question, But how do you fellas get a socket on the rear bolt on the upper swivel pin? On mine the brake pipes are in the way so i can only get a spanner on the bolt and thus cant torque it. The bracket that holds the pipe is held in place by this bolt so you cant really move it.
  4. Nice thing with the disco\RR bottle jacks is that they have a little C shaped section at the top of the bottle which connects neatly with the axle. With other bottle jacks, you cant jack under the axle tube without a risk of the slightest movement causing it to slip off of the top if the jack.
  5. I thought about using polystyrene as i had a load of the stuff left when i bought a new bed. I was worried about the potential for fumes etc in the event of a fire, but when i tried it out, the most anooying thing was the squeaking - all the time!!!!!! Every shake of the defender and the stuff rubbed somewhere and squeaked. Drove me mad so i ripped it all out. I will be doing the roof with camping mats i think.
  6. Get a Hi Lift - You can jack it up nice and tall and then and rest the chassis rails on a decent set of tractor axle stands. If you need to raise the axle on one side, you can do this with a bottle jack as Ralph suggests. If i want to releive the tension in the springs, i will often jack up with the hi lift and get axle stands under the chassis first and then use my disco bottle jack under the axle. You can never have too many axle stands under there IMO! I find my trolley jack has a tendancy to slip if placed under the axle if the wheels cannot move freely so i need a perfectly smooth surface to use it safely. Jacking under the diff doesnt really work as, although the jack wont slip off of there, the diffs are so far to one side to lift the whole end in one go and the landy ends up on a slant.
  7. Yes, but presumably the vin number should match what is on the V5 and therefore what is linked to your number plate - so it cant be any vin plate really!
  8. Better to hold off surely and wait till Dave can send you the right one? I wouldnt fancy dropping the box again when the correct one arrives! I know you want ot go out and play, but a bit of patience.
  9. So i have self levelling suspension and the GVW on my V5 is 3499kg so does it matter that the GVW is wrong. Obviously i should get it changed really, but what a lot of fuss all because the DVLA didnt do their job properly in the first place!
  10. Does that mean if you have a CSW with estate on the V5 it is classified as a car and GVW is ignored?
  11. This has been mentioned a lot recently. This link gives a lot of info: http://www.glencoyne.co.uk/motclass.htm
  12. There is a chance - certainly looking at the colours that Scorpion Racing has become Extreme 4x4 so you might be able to purchase from them still if you need to: http://www.extreme4x4ltd.co.uk/acatalog/index.html
  13. Nice - i'm very impressed! Much neater than my DIY attempt. I wont be posting pictures of mine.... (dont want to make MOG have to tidy up again)!
  14. Well, that colour has been related to a quality company in the past.......so it must be good!
  15. So i guess writing my reg number on a bit of brown cardboard and sticking that on the back of a trailer i'd borrowed for one day could have gotten me in trouble then?! I hadnt thought about it till i read this thread.
  16. Theres a good guide in the tech archive - have a glance at what else is in there using the index link at the top of the page. Lots of good stuff for future questions. Here is the one you need: http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=6917
  17. Well put! The F350 is petrol isnt it? - only diesels are affected by LEZ. Yours is the extreme example of where this stupid scheme makes no sense at all. Anyway. Straying a little OT here now. But Neill is right really - with the paperwork all correct, you wont be creating as many hassles on travells to exotic places as you may encounter with conflicting paperwork.
  18. Trouble is GVW is stamped on the vin. This often contradicts what is on the V5 (thanks again DVLA) - so depending where you look, you might get done anyway. My feeling is that they will look at the paperwprk, but if they then see this doesnt match the vin, you might end up in more trouble than just being overweight. Currently, my vin GVW is different to the V5 GVW (found out about this issue after i'd chnaged the body type), but i have changed the body type to estate as i have a genuine CSW that is now LEZ exempt. The LEZ wont hit everyone in the defender bracket for another couple of years (2012) some time - but still worth sorting out early becasue that date seems to depend on the dorection fo the wind. EDIT - Neill was typing faster than me!
  19. I wrote them a letter Neil and simply stated that they had calssified mine wrong in the first place. It came back a fortnight later amended from Light 4x4 Utility to Estate. This really does seem to be the usual matter of getting a different answer from every person at the DVLA you speak to - they really dont seem to know their a*se from their elbow there.
  20. Apparently my recent post in the international forum was too OT since it has dissappeared. In answer to your other question - this may be of interest: http://www.serie2a.dk/English%20series2a/200tdi%20discovery%20in%20a%20Defender.htm Are you planning to use the TD turbo and both TD manifolds?
  21. Some of these systems appear quite basic. On of my accounts will ask for number in the same order more than once in a day, so its probably not hard for chancers to get in there if the software has recorded the numbers entered and the screenshot asking for set digits in the passnumber.
  22. Good point - i guess if my backside is in fire i'll know that the seat is!
  23. Would they be ok with the foams on the RRC seats? I would think so if they are ok for the defender seats.
  24. Has anyone used these kits or something similar? - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WAECO-HEATED-SEAT-KIT-RETRO-FIT-KIT-FOR-2-SEATS_W0QQitemZ370268385846QQcategoryZ31348QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4340.m8QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DMW%26its%3DC%26itu%3DUCC%26otn%3D5%26ps%3D63 I have RRC manual velour seats in the front of my defender and these heaters would be a nice edition. Is it safe to add heater elements to any seat or are there some they are unsuitable for?
  25. No I know, its not a problem, Google is easy enough to use, i was just pointing the OP to Google rather than have him search on here. The old software (prior to the last upgrade)seemed to have a better search facility than now. I cant get the AND, + "" or any of the old functions to work anymore on this current version.
