  1. I know. there are a lot of failure points for this water pump! It's stripped now. The gallery gasket doesn't look damaged to be honest. Everything was torqued up correctly. This jobs turned into a bit of a mission. Got it back together on Tuesday only to find i had misaligned the front cover gasket that time. I didn't do it the second time and could clearly see the drip from the bottom right bolt on the water pump but behind the timing case. Maybe I was messing around too long with the water pump (since i had to do it twice)! When re-assembling this lot, what is the consensus on hylomar, grease, dry etc on the gaskets? I dont want to do it again. Some of the ali surfaces on the front cover are looking a little aged and pitted in places if that makes a difference to answers!
  2. Haha, yep. I wasnt happy! Ok. thanks - will get it stripped then parts ordered for next weekend!
  3. Theres not much more to say than that really! My version was a little more blue! I take it there is no way to replace that little gallery gasket without removing the whole timing case?!
  4. Don't worry. Answered my own question - its ERR1607 thats leaking, its not going along the bolt, so it looks like the timing chest needs to come off for sure. https://www.lrdirect.com/ERR1607-Gasket-Water-Inlet-2.25-2.5Pddt2T/
  5. Finished doing the timing belt on the 110 (200tdi) today. Put it all back together, went for a spin. All looked good up top, looked underneath, coolant pouring out everywhere. Its coming from the rear of the timing chest where it meets the block! I guess it is getting along the water pump bolts and coming out at the back. What to do? I guess strip the whole timing case off and replace the rear gasket as well? Going to start stripping it again now, but thoughts are welcome. (need the 110 next week as the D3 is sorned and its MOT is up next Saturday and it needs the front lower arms doing and the D2 needs a few bits doing ready for its MOT the week after next!)
  6. Its a bit like Project Binky this.... I kinda don't want you to finish....
  7. I had this engine in a 5 series (great car) - I bet it was brilliant in the 110.
  8. I made one Phil, but thanks for the offer. I could never get on doing this job with the tightening part being done holding it on the gearbox. All the slack in the drivetrain meant i was never sure the bolt was done up tight enough!
  9. Now, I always use loctite on the bolt! This question was really should I apply it to where the gear for the timing belt contacts the crank shaft - especially around the woodruff key to avoid any possible play there? Sounds like most dont.
  10. Just doing the timing belt on the 200tdi - got the crank drive pulley off, but do you folks loctite these on so that they sit tight on the crank and around the woodruff keys? Looks like I did last time but I cant remember why now! Some people seem to suggest greasing the crank shaft...?
  11. I dont think so. Its leather seal old flange or new flange and new style seal. The new flange was a simple enough job. Snagger posted up the torque somewhere if it isnt in my thread above.
  12. Here you go.............. I did the leather seal twice in a couple of years but couldnt get a good seal. The one in the thread above has been on there four and a half years now.
  13. You regularly sound pretty down on them. For folks who are novice with the spanners and electrics (not making a judgement on the OP, more myself when I converted from the TD) a 200tdi makes for an easy and quick improvement. A few tweaks and they are not as slow as you make them sound...... Anyway, have a 3.9 to play with now, but that's going in an off roader on a Range Rover chassis that I bought from V8 Freak.
  14. I never understand the level of 200tdi hate on here from a select few. Its a good engine. The thing that holds it back in my opinion is gearing. Get an overdrive and it is much more versatile than with the standard gearing. Mine will trundle along at 80 quite happily with the overdrive engaged. It isn't slow and it will chug along all day quite happily and return reasonable economy for what it is driving around - 23-25mpg in mine (many report nearer to 30mpg). Stick veg oil in it at half the price of diesel and its the equivalent cost of 46-50mpg.
  15. I was stood looking at my D3 in the yard today. This new defender is a D3.
  16. This brochure might be of interest if the upload works..... Land-Rover-Defender-1L6632010000BGBEN01P2.pdf
  17. What would you drive at the weekend? Because I presume you mean you would have to talk to the wife because the 'DC100' is in the dealers having an electrical fault chased under warranty....?
  18. Always good for those who somehow wangle a 20% discount on everything.....
  19. I quite like it, but it isn't a defender. Like lots of other posts, this should have been called something else and then the criticism would be a lot less. The adverts have completely ignored the old models - look at the 5 series BMW, thats been an evolution from day 1, they could have attempted that with this but it probably wouldn't work. Last week, my 110 (still with roof tent on top) spent its evenings dragging trees up the slopes on our fields with straps wrapped around the tree and hooked onto the landy. Tight spaces, scratchy branches/brambles/walls, jumping in and out with dirty clothes and wellies on each time the strap broke, dirty chainsaw slung in the back... I would be too scared of scratching/getting dirty, whatever this new vehicle really is to use if for that!
  20. Wow. LR are doing well. 49 pages and all they got wrong was a touch screen...😜
  21. Have you asked on the nanocom user forum? Its run by bbs but some of the mods (i think employees of bbs) are helpful.
  22. Presumably if you disable the ABS (by disconnecting a sensor) then it will not do this? There is a breaker on the D2 forum who will probably have a replacement ECU (if you can get him to respond to messages.....!)
