  1. For a budget option that I am more than happy with have a look at Ring Rally Giants. I reckon they are perfect for road use on dark nights where we don't have kangaroos bouncing in front of us whilst doing 50mph on dirt tracks... £30 from my local motorfactors and as I say, do exactly what I wanted. Personally I'm not keen on roof lights for road use when it's raining as you get a lot of reflection of the rain. Mine are mounted on the front bumper and I don't have to worry about trees or height barriers
  2. Isn't it like this one (pic taken from another forum thread):
  3. Mines due tomorrow and I was just saying, my pre-MOT is fine, but I can't check emissions and you never know what book they are reading from * *yes, I know some of you do, but I'm not an MOT tester
  4. I really couldn't say without looking or a photo, sure someone would be along soon with a diagram
  5. Sounds like it could be the shaft then. You can get things called "speedy sleeves" that fit over the shaft with some loctite to hold them in place, then the oil seal goes over that (might need a larger id in the seal, long time since I've used them). I don't think this will cause a problem with anything else (the larger shaft diameter) on the TD5 axle. Hope that helps.
  6. How about using some stainless steel cable ties? A few holes every so often (one each side of a rail, a fraction larger than the widthe of the tie) and cable tie through and around the rack. Don't stick up at all and no need to drill the rack.
  7. Yup, I've said it many times, it's mostly just nuts and bolts like any other vehicle. All of my electrical problems have been down to a flat battery.
  8. Agree with Chris, it sounds dreadful but is normal. 4mph is still to fast in my opinion though.
  9. LR series have the same thing I think. Problem is when you don't have a part number, it's a proper PITA to find stuff
  10. If you decide not to let me know and I'll do it. <br><br>Forget "only £200 profit and think, only £200 more and I've got a cracking road trip/holiday <img class="bbc_emoticon" alt="" src="http://forums.lr4x4.com/public/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif"><br>

Get a garden sprayer from Wilkinsons for £7. I have. I haven't tried it yet but gotta be worth a go! Failing that I usually let my local 4x4 dealer do it, they don't charge me much more than the price of the oil and it doesn't need doing every month so worth it in my opinion.
  12. I did consider one of those when I lived in Somerset by the Taunton/Bridgewater Canal
  13. I think rather than asking what fails you need to ask what fails and leaves you stranded. Then ask what will be difficult or impossible to get at any garage or town. So, for example, a serpentine belt leaves you stuck so carry a spare, but a headlight bulb won't leave you stranded and should be easily available. Work through a list like that and see what you think. Then look at, for example, the alternator. If checked and in good condition chances are it won't fail, but if it does you are stuck. Most likely failure is of the diode/brush pack so just carry that as a spare. A head gasket can be replaced by locals/you if they have the bits, so carry a spare head gasket. Just my 2p's worth, otherwise you'll need a lorry for all of the spares!
  14. I'd stick with air if you are running with a heavy payload...just carry a couple of spares (dead easy to change)
  15. Cheers guys, I did consider the caravan storage but unfortunately they seem prone to theft (break-ins) from what I know of locally. I'm liking some of the ideas though, thinking outside the box. A caravan in a barn wouldn't be a bad place to live I reckon. Funny thing is I stepped out of society 10 years ago and cleared off. Then I met a girl and got sucked back in to it...now it's time to move on again. Back then I wanted a motorhome rather than a house. That might have made some sense with my trade, been able to move around etc. Hmmm, maybe I need to think even further outside the box!
  16. I have to move soon (yeah, great timing, with the fire engine project just about in bits!)I have just had a quote for a 70sqft storage unit near to me, of £127pm. Another was £220pm Now that was quite a lot dearer than I was expecting. So: 1) Anyone got any better ideas 2) Anyone got an empty garage near me (yeah, likely!) 3) Is this the average rate and am I going to have to sell EVERYTHING? Seriously looking for a barn/workshop where I can park a caravan behind it. I feel like I am always on the move so I may as well live in a caravan!
  17. Did I just wet my pants? I think I did
  18. Do a search for Kawasaki Green, gotta be the green you are looking for
  19. P38's are coming down in price to a point where they are a viable alternative to the Disco (on price). A few in our club have bought them as their road vehicles and I must say I'm impressed aty what they got for the money.
  20. I've reached the tipping point several times this last year, but decided I'd rather sleep in a tent than sell the Disco! Lets hope you can get back to the green oval soon.
  21. No probs, glad to be able to help (it took me ages to find them when I was looking). I drilled right through my bumper and then welded them on the front and back so they are not going anywhere!
