  1. Cheers for that, very handy to know for future reference.
  2. Great find, thanks. I was thinking of this yesterday. Wanted 10 litre cans ideally though, for ease of handling. But that's gonna cost me a lot more per litre. Think I'll have to go to Aldi's tomorrow...
  3. I'm not sure what the issue is here (or elsewhere that I've read)? If the vehicle has been modified to such an extent that the DVLA is interested, then surely you should declare such modifications anyway? When converting a van into a motorhome for example there are certaing things that you can do, but once you add a bed to the vehicle you need to get your V5 changed. If you add gas you have to get a test/inspection certificate (and a registered fitter to make the connections). I guess they don't need to know if you've put spotlights or a roofrack on, but if you've made a 130" into a 90" I think this would require notification... I'm not having a go here, but I've been reading a lot of complaints recently and seen a lot of heavily modified vehicles that fall outside of the law and wonder how far we think that we can go before we consider safety etc. Cheers, Martin.
  4. For climates with an ambient below -20'C you need Texaco Cold Climate. For climates above -20'C you need Dexron 2 or Dexron 3 fluid. It's Automatic transmission fluid as well. Unipart stock it, so do Halfords. I paid £14 for 5litres. If you are in Durham you can have a drop.
  5. You are right about the Haynes manual. But that's no surprise. Don't believe everything it tells you about fuse locations either..but that's another story. Anyway, I've just been out to the Disco and had a look. There is a relay clicking in the passenger compartment fuse box. But I've pulled all 4 of them and the rear wiper still worked, and I could still here the clicking in there. So there is a relay, and it is there somewhere But where, I'm not sure
  6. For what it's worth may I suggest the genuine LR covers? Mine are waterproof and have been on for 126,000miles and still look like new. They obviously fit perfectly as well. And by the sounds of it are cheaper than Exmoor trim (£60 a pair for the TD5, so maybe less for a tdi?)

    Miles to KM

Cheers all. If you press the trip button to reset the trip to zero, then press and hold it for 2 seconds it changes to KM. I thought I'd tried pressing and holding before. Anyway, that's handy for checking distances when abroad. Orange, if I asked my local dealers they'd either a) ask me for the chassis number B) tell me my vehicle doesn't exist c) sell me a whole new instrument pannel. Which would still be in mph!
  8. Sounds good to me. Need to get some AT's fitted and diff guards as I'm pushing my luck at the moment! But yup, I'll give you a shout. Cheers.
  9. Hi all, thought I'd share some pics from todays outing around Weardale. We headed out from Durham aand there was a light dusting of snow, but mostly ice laid through the night. The day went well without any dramas at all and everyone enjoyed it. There's something great about been on the highest byway in England (Grasshill Causway) in a complete whiteout which is just brilliant The only place I struggled with having road tyres was actually on the road, thankfully we weren't going too fast so everything came back under control with just a waggle of the tail The waffle boards came into their own again. These things are a MUST HAVE in my opinion. This time we proceeded down a track which was a little rutted but nothing heavy, only to find half way down that the rut became 18" deep, but still only a tyre width across. Popped the waffles down infront of the front wheels and drove straight out of the ruts we were in (otherwise inpossible to do with road tyres) and continued on our way, gingerly looking at the 18" trench beside us As I say, great bits of kit, saved any churning up of the lane, and saved us reversing all of the way back out As I say, no dramas with any of the three vehicles which included my standard TD5 disco, a heavily modified disco, and a Toyota Hilux on MASSIVE tyres Well worth getting out of bed for and popping on the thermals
  10. Looks like an eventfull day was had. I'm just uploading pics myself, we didn't have the views that you had though, but no dramas either - except that I found that the Disco slides differently to a Freelander... Must say I'm looking forward to changing the bumper on the TD5. Who's idea was it to make them out of plastic
  11. How about a Discovery commercial (if there's enough room in it?).
  12. 27/30. Not bad I guess. Considering I've never seen some of the signs in 14 years of driving!

    Miles to KM

I have tried holding the button in but all it does is reset the trip. If it can be done with a Nanocom that would be handy.
  14. Hi all, was wondering if it's possible to change the trip to show km on a D2? I know sometimes theres an option that isn't always in teh user guide, such as "turn key three times whilst holding reset button and singing I'm a little teapot" Just a thought. Otherwise I'll use the GPS display.
  15. Try leaving the fan off for the first one or two miles. Give the engine chance to heat up. Ours warms up in about 3 miles this way.
  16. This is useful to know. Jim, can I just clarify that the AC fan only normally runs when the AC is on and when needed (so not if the AC was on but it was -2'C outside)? Cheers, Martin
  17. Here's another addition... Made from 2mm ally. We need to decide on the layout but it will have a table/box for the stove I think (if I can get the ally folded), and a smaller shelf to the side for cups and stuff. I've got to play with some scraps and see how they fold with a bit of heat and a hammer otherwise it will just be a flat fold out table
  18. I borrowed a Park tools chain wrench off a friend (a mountain bike tool). It has a 36mm open end and can be used for removing filters also, so two in one ) If you don't have the pulley locking tool (I didn't) a sharp tap with a hammer should set it free.
  19. Cheers all, that's saved me a few quid
  20. Interesting, thanks. I shall have a bit more of a shop around.
  21. All's quiet on my front also. Am currently searching the jobs pages. My work usually does go quiet around now and picks up again in March/April, but I'm not banking on that this year. I'm hoping to get odd jobs/short term work to tide things over. I have several ideas that I have been toying with, branching out into niche areas. But unfortunately they all require money to get going. Best of luck with the job hunting to all those concerned.

    New Tyres

Colway tyres were based just down the road from me and from what I can tell they are no longer operating
  23. Say what It's not often I clean the rear window, it's a commercial and I can't see much out of the back most times anyway! But if I did get the inclination to clean it I'd either spray some window cleaner on it then rinse with a hose, or remove the bottom p clips and swing the mesh upwards. Easy enough. Will get done every 6 months perhaps...
  24. As the title suggests, I'm looking to buy one of those sheet benders from Machine Mart or similar (maybe even Eblag if I can get one locally 2nd hand). I want to make a few cubby boxes out of 2mm chequer plate, and maybe a rack for the waffle boards etc. I was going to use angle to make a frame then rivet the sheet to it, but figure folding would be neater, less costly, less weight and less work. Any tips or what to look out for before I splash the cash?
