  2. When's the closing date for this Jim ? I've been looking at a similar deal with a local rope/wirerope/lifting tackle supplier but i'm having trouble getting a definitive figure off them...waiting for a reply atm. If you use plasma as an extension is it better to use a higher rated rope than the one on the winch or the same spec? cheers Steveb
  3. mmmm highpress/flow ,mmmmm manual valves solenoids , what white90 said. Steveb ...i hope i'm never stuck with a dead engine.....
  4. Hi Gringo, the nuts n bolts should all be metric, with the charge light what BM said should be the case..voltage reg. not working. When you put the meter on it rev it a little & you should see volts rise above 14.4/14.5v. HTH cheers Steveb
  5. 109 FC ?...not enough undergrowth in front of the mirror to cover a bonnet .....or is it the exemption category for L*ndon LEZ??? Steveb
  6. Unnecessary stuff has never been left on in this house....my parents were both kids during ww2 ...frugality was a way of life for them & i grew up with the power cuts in the 70's....all my lighting is low energy. Still I'm sure the committee that dreamed this one up all have index-linked pensions courtesy of the state..... what it needs is more international summits every month for them all to fly to & produce regular900page reports full of statistics. ......breath in .....breath out.........relax .......... /rant over/ Steveb
  7. Mmmm added protein ..would that be "Bubble n squish" then ? Steveb
  8. Hi , Welcome to the forum mc4x4.. I had a chat with Dirtydiesel (on here) the other day about this & he converts to G-Wagen discs on 404's, Straightforward supplies also do a disc conv using RRC disc's . Not sure if portaltek do anything moggy - they are volvo c303 mainly. I think you'll find lots of info on Pirate as well , haven't been on there much myself. Looking at it myself for the future. Did you get your axles in oz then? didn't realize 404's were imported to Australia....mind you saw plenty of army 404's in NZ when i was there a few years back. Mmmmmm 404 mog cheers Steveb
  9. Its the same symptoms for a worn out steering damper &/or loose kingpin bearings as well. To check the damper remove one end & pull/push ...ANY slack or free movement means a new one . Kingpins are checked by jacking up each side front wheel& checking free play with hands at 12/6 o'clock . use axle stand under axle/ radius arm cos your hand is right under tyre...or use a long bar to lift. HTH Steveb
  10. Hi Jos does that mean you have some experience of russian lingo then? how/ when did you do it if so ?.......theres lots to do really if I am going to do this , not just with my LR either but going to try to finance and the right crew will help a lot .........same as everyone i guess. Some lovely pic's there Jez. I can see what you mean about the flat terrain being good for you portal boys too. Theres a future in these serene Russian greenlane events Steveb
  11. got to I think..got plenty of time to learn some Russian & earn some money ...11 months to go B) cheers Steveb
  12. Hooked and in the boat by the sound of it Paul! Must admit to aiming at tourist/grand tourist myself for next year ....got one or two mates tentatively interested for crew...chatting to fridgefreezer n dirtydiesel n pinkdiesel this morning at Harwich has only got me closer to the baited hook oh yeah and a nice milemarker raider off *blag yesterday B) just need some shafts n cvs to go with a 4 planet for the front and then its just money / time n kahunas cheers Steveb
  13. Superb stuff Jez n Kim , Dan n Charlotte n Julia , what a result and more importantly WHAT A FEELING this will live on with you all forever. If anyone needs picking up from harwich as a foot passenger i'd be more than willing , if not would like to see you back so let us know when you are all coming back. The fortunes that put you in the right place to help your fellow competitor Prit are to be thanked .....the chi of Petal must be strong cheers and again WELL DONE Steveb
  14. ......maybe its just coincidence......but 2010 implementation..... mmmmmmm whats happening in 2012 thats going to cost £50 billion?? I'm lucky my work etc doesn't take me anywhere near London..no desire to go inside the m25 at all either B) Steveb
  15. What a fantastic result, just to finish is such an achievement but to keep up the pace for a whole week in a vehicle straight out of the workshop ....you all did such a great job 3rd place o/a SUPERB result . I'm sure the buzz must be sooooo goood Steveb mmmmmm DVD
  16. PMSL reading that twosheds its not good when bits fall off as you watch they say start each day with a smile & you certainly did that for i Steveb
  17. nice view from the office but how on earth do you concentrate on anything with that to drift into ? I've got a set of 15.5 XT terras too but they are prone to popping off rim beads at 5psi , but they do work well...going to have to go up a size or two when I eventually get round to sorting out the 404 axles tho B) Steve
  18. Hi Ged, I,d fit the new seal anyway as you have it ..is there a fitting collar to guide/expand it onto crank ? The oil leak looks like its coming from above the ex port ..rocker cover seal? if you can't find it clean it up & watch it when you are in use again. Sealing the flywheel housing to block I'd use silicone instant gasket type stuff. that clutch has def had loose item(s) rattling around it......are all the pressure plate set screws in place ..in the pic some are loose HTH edit to say loose bits could be damper spring bits from driven plate. Steveb
  19. Top marks to Jez and the crew ......sounds like a big chunk of serendipity involved there .....lets hope there's a happy end to that one. Great work all of ya ,good luck with the rest of the event. Steveb
  20. Welcome to the nuthouse Deepmud ...those 45's look sweet ,are they 16" dia? and how wide ? the toyota here is a mate of mine's playday machine with my 15x15 agri tyres. One of the other teams is running a blog on Ladoga (when they can get reception!) on www.macsport4x4.com ..Paul Mc Cleary on Robb's team. looking forward to seeing lots more pic's of Alaskan offroading B) Cheers Steveb
  21. If its electronic injection the engine may be worth something . This is what i did with my mates ...... Steveb
  22. Cor blimey you were lucky to get that lot onto the hard shoulder in one piece Dan ,also that the wheel didn't hit anyone. That happened to me on my first day on the road as a learner with my Dad in his marina van way back in the last century no traffic for me to contend with as i was on a back road, it took us a while to find the tyre (NSR) as it got fired out of the wheelarch and into a field of wheat... have a great trip all Steveb
  23. Well, popped down to Harwich to see everyone off last night, I even borrowed my brothers digi camera to take some pic's, met up with petergg & mrs P......so we waited and chatted................ ......then went and had a coffee whilst watching some canadian guys riding round on a penny farthing bike .............. 22.15............mmmmmmmm wonder where they are................ ......some time later......no one left in the entry lanes....... .....hark is that a 4.6? they rolled in with 10mins to spare & we had to persuade the gate monkeys to let us have a quick hello to everyone as they were keen to get them in as the boat was loading . Was good to meet even if brief. The 109 looked great ....the vapour archs fit the 900's perfectly .....Petal looked well like Petal really B) Hope you all have a wild trip. ......Bet you're all thinking lets see some pic's then............errrrrr ......it seems I forgot to take the SD card....... ...they would have been great shots tho ,the convoy looked good Dan & mrs D's 2 door RRC looked a bit small between the 109 in front & Petal on a trailer. Cheers Steveb .......in a technological spin.........
  24. Hi , if you're running the pump off the engine it'll need to be chain drive.......although if your eng is a 4203? looks like it might be you may be able to run a pump off the timing chest....will be running all the time tho. I haven't got any pic's of underneath-will try and get some up soon, theres not much to see ,all I did was use the end of the orig driveshaft with a uj onto pump shaft. the pump is mounted onto the n/s inner chassis rail with a nice 6mm thick bracket, with side webs. The rest - pto/pump & valveblock is just bolt together. The PRV is set using inline pressure gauge & then locked. cheers Steveb
  25. my winch on my 109 is hydro converted fairey mech winch . LT 230 PTO pump 8.5 gal/min 1/2" port valve block 7gall tank (1" feed + filter to pump) 6.5 gpm reversible motor ( with leak off). the motor is off a series lr hydro winch. PRV set to 200bar. I had all the bits apart from valve block which cost me £200. Pulls well but the cable is too thick so it loses torque on the outer layers. Plasma sometime i reckon. B) oh yeah and about £350 worth of new hp piping to plumb it up on 46 wt oil. cheers Steveb
