  1. FWIW, the Ogden Air kit used custom mounts but all of the 'air' kit was off the shelf stuff from http://www.ridetech.com/index2.html in the US. I did once have a ride (on-road only) in an air suspension equipped 90 and have to say it was without doubt the worst riding vehicle I have ever sat in! Proof that there's more to it than just replacing the springs wwith air bags.
  2. Just to clarify. The DefenderVent isn't a MUD developed product. The credit for that goes to Wiberg & Wiberg in Denmark - a LR spares shop. We added it to our list of products because it fits with what we do and it's a good idea. It's an injection moulding and as Simon says if you know anything about injection moulding - you'll know why it's priced like it is. A customer who bought a Vent kit from me did tell me that the Wolf winterisation kit is no longer available. This was an overseas trade customer who was has been selling the factory kit for years in his native 'cold' country. Since his supply has dried up he has swapped onto the DefenderVent. Haven't tried sourcing the parts myself so whether you can or can't still get them I can't comment.
  3. Try Raingler in the US I have their large containment net. Super strong and well made. Did try selling their stuff a couple of years ago but gave up when they never had anything in stock. Shame because it's quality stuff.
  4. Give me a ring. We use the stuff on our Tunnel Tray's and have roll off-cuts kicking around. Happy to sent you some FOC
  5. Contact Lakeland Land Rover at Torver, Cumbria. Tel: 0844 470 9905. Ask for Colin Todd. He's the guy who's created their Lakeland 'special vehicles' department specialising in kitting out mountain Rescue LR's. Nice guy who'll give you the time of day and point you in the right direction for what you're looking for.
  6. Friend of a friend just picked up a 04 D3 for £8k. Hearing loads of stories of RR's going for £8k-£10k. That's a cheap £60k car! Japs faring no better. Mate enquired how much Mitsi garage would give him for 18-month old £32k Shogun. £14K He's decided to keep it....
  7. My ideal trip would be. Fly in to Denver. Collect 4x4 and head west taking in classic trails through Colorado. Plan your route through, Silverton, Durango, Ouray, before arriving in Moab. Fly back from Salt Lake City. Monument Valley is an easy diversion. Worth it to drive through that classic scenery. The Colorado - Utah route means you'll get a more varied mix of mountains, ghost towns , desert and slickrock Another thumbs up for Bill Burke. Charles Wells guides are a must. He does a Colorado guide as well as the Utah book. Careful on the high routes in Colorado. This is September on Engineer Pass!
  8. Sorry guys. No celebrity connection whatsoever. It's actually from just up the road from me. Infamous vehicle around these parts. Belongs to wife of chap who deals in salvage motorcycles/cars. See his ad. Bought new as a Christmas present alledgedly.
  9. Cheers guys. Forgot to mention in my inital post that he'd sussed it was an immobiliser problem. Love the fact that the dealer and LR (if the dealer ever bothered to call them) are baffled by this seemingly unheard of problem! The dealer hadn't suggested the remove the key, lock, unlock, procedure. I know he's tried this but whether he did it in the correct manner or was just randomly pushing the buttons without paying attention to the dash light I don't know. Ian. What effect will resetting the immobiliser to 'standard' settings have? He did say having the immobiliser was pain a sometimes because whenever he has a couple of collies in the back he has to remember to lock it with the key to prevent the immobiliser/alarm kicking in. Dealers idea of a fix was to keep it for three days. 'Your car is ready sir. It's started everytime we've tried it.' Yeah but have you 'fixed' or changed anything? Err - no.
  10. Local farmer/neighbour rung me today looking for help. 07 'Puma' 90 with 18000 miles. Over the past couple of months the vehicle has developed an intermittent starting fault. The truck will either start, run for a few seconds and then dies or it just refuses to turn. Usually leaving it five minutes will 'cure' the fault but the non starting is happening more frequently now. Local Land Rover dealer has had two attempts at curing it but says it can find no fault with the vehicle. Dealer says it has been in touch with Solihull and it's 'not a known problem'. Three days after last dealer visit it failed to start. It's just done it again today - that's when he called me to ask whether i'd heard of anything similar. I haven't but wondered whether anyone on here had...?? FWIW. Another farmer has told him his 'Puma' 90 does the same occasionally but the leave it 5-mins trick works for him. Anyone else experienced/heard of this one?
  11. We no longer offer the windows after continuing hassles with glass suppliers. However Devon 4x4 do stock the windows.
  12. Try contacting Bradford Rubber Services http://www.bradfordrubber.co.uk/ A veritable goldmine of all things rubber related - NO that sort of rubber stuff! They stock neoprene sheet in all forms of thickness and density, open cell, closed cell and can supply you with it adhesive backed. Ask them to send you one of their sample sheets which gives you an idea of the stuff they have. FWIW. The 110s built for Ranulph Feinnes failed polar crossing had foil backed material lining the whole of the interior in the rear of the trucks.
  13. And according to Eurosport last night 400,000 spectators expected at todays stages. Four hundred thousand!!!
  14. It was on the south coast close to Myrdal Jokul. Believe it or not it's just out of sight of the ring road so you've probably driven past it without knowing it! I'll try dig out my map with the location scribbled on it. The Icelandic guy with us knew the exact stretch of fence at the roadside to pull back to let us through onto what is effectively a private stretch of the Icelandic coastline. The story goes that the plane landed on the beach in a storm. Sand wrecked the engines so it wasn't going to take off ever again. Recovering it from the beach would have been a huge task so the USAF stripped what was salvegable and left the rest to the elements. More camper inspiration here... http://www.earthroamer.com/tab_xpedition_v...s/vehicles.html
  15. Got a mate who wants us a to fit a MUD dash to his truck. One of the things he wants is a hard mounted USB output, maybe two, on the console for powering his iPod and Blackberry on the move. The easiest and most common method would to be use an USB adaptor that plugs into the standard 12v socket. He already has this set up and this is what he wants to improve upon. So the question is, is this worth the hassle and if it's possible, how do we go about it? Any useful links would be greatfully received and please go easy on the PC-speak. Just the phrase 'USB' makes my eyes glaze over!
  16. Got the exact same Sony unit in my truck fitted with the very first MUD dash and it works fine.
  17. CB organisers here: http://www.grands-randonneurs-motorises.co...s_motorises.htm You may have left it a bit late now though
  18. An offical announcement is expected today
  19. Just heard this morning Land Rover has announced it is cancelling the 09 Mongolia event. Sign of the times....
  20. It's a Land Rover. Live with it. Fitting an expenisve air filter aint going to make it any faster or improve BHP no matter what the advert says. Save your money. FWIW. Bowler uses paper filters for all of its desert racers.
  21. No compatability issues whatsoever. The FMJ will work fine with the Meck Lock.
  22. Having had the 'pleasure' of wrestling with a SVX softop I would personally like to meet the person who signed that particular design off. The sort of job you only do once! Stick with the Badger hood!
