  1. I must admit I've never had any problems with normal diffs which ever end they've gone in. Mike
  2. No boots on the swivels but by the sounds they do need new seals at the very least if the chrome balls are badly pitted they'll need replacing to. Oil leaks are common some say if it ain't leaking it's empty but I like to try to minimize them. The most important thing though is we need pictures. Mike
  3. Rear chassis and outriggers need careful looking at as do bulkhead footwells, pillars and top corners. Mike
  4. Welcome to the forum. Rust in chassis and bulkhead is the biggest issue after that every thing else is just nuts and bolts. Mike
  5. The newest bit on mine is the 200tdi otherwise yours sounds like it will look like mine only newer, shinier, dryer, more comfortable and quieter. So not really like mine at all really. Mike
  6. Leave the back discs alone to be honest 80% of braking is done by the front. Mike
  7. 110 vented calipers on disco vented discs you will need to change the system to defender or possibly 300tdi disco style single line (i've done this for my ibex) or I have the complete disco system including master with vented discs up front on 45 (90) the brakes are outstanding. So as fridge says put vented discs and calipers up front and try it I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how good they are. Mike
  8. So beadlocks like mine would be legal then. Mike
  9. Yeah that's pretty much where I've got to but I'm going to hold off for a bit and hopefully let life calm down a bit before I tackle it. Mike
  10. Sounds like yours is the same as mine. I can't build the enthusiasm to take the front off last time (cracked idler mounting) it took all day as you say. I'll keep you posted as to where I get to with mine but I'm in no hurry to sort it I've got enough on my plate at the moment. Mike
  11. Dumb question but why aren't bead locks legal or does it depend on type. I have some mach 5 bead lock rims but can't see any reason they should be any different to split rims in terms of legality. Mike
  12. Where is it appearing exactly? I have an oil leak that appears on top of the timing chest I thought head gasket as well but I'm now thinking it maybe the timing chest gasket instead. Mike
  13. Thank you for the compliment. I could only built a chassis that looks right I don't have the computer skills to stress test etc so building a chassis from scratch is marginal (though I would need to be convinced that this chassis is well designed). The body and mechanicals on the otherhand don't pose a problem for me. Many a good car has been built on someone else's chassis. Mike
  14. It maybe all of the above but I have to admit I like the lines (what there is of them). I think it could be a very nice, very quick car and the sort of thing that the wife would divorce me over. Good job I'm moving house and have no room or time. Mike
  15. Unless they want rotten 2 piece doors that aren't straight in any direction. The doors work out at £1000 each in parts alone and that's without paint. Mike
  16. I drove up through Norway on geo lander pattern remoulds no problem with grip till I wanted to stop quickly. The rest of my group were on km1's which were better all round but not quite as good under power. For the temperatures we saw the standard heater couldn't cope we all had eberspachers (especially good if parked up or first thing) I had a heated screen worth every penny till a lorry smashed it with a stone for me (must get two for our current trucks). Mike
  17. Failing that drop the push rods in just remember up is down. Mike
  18. The quote to repair was £19k. The nfu have been outstanding apparently. He's not heard anything from the police. Mike
  19. Hopefully he won't mind but this is what they did: http://www.copart.co.uk/uk/Lot/36002065/Photos?SearchId=1868129981 Mike
  20. No point in lacquering it I don't think the paint will stay on long enough to fade....... Sorry Steve I'll go now.Mike
  21. No reason why they should assuming it's made and fitted correctly (fibreglass can be made bullet proof literally) I would think the manufacturer has allowed for this. However if it was likely to be a problem you only need a sheet of metal on the floor to spread the load.Mike
  22. Why can't you use a transmission jack in it? Mike
  23. Don't you just hate it when that happens. Mike
  24. Dads has boards across that are only lifted when a car is over the hole (it also stops you driving into the hole when your aim is off). Mike
  25. As eightpot says do a shallow pit but you could add a sliding seat for working on normal cars. I'm over 6' and my dads pit would be perfect for 4x4's trouble is I had minis when I lived there perhaps banging my head and wiping grease in my hair is the reason I'm bald now. Mike
