  1. Thanks as ever chaps, bravo 110 hand pump ordered. Yes if we were going with the landrover i'd use the OBA, I could blow it up in the workshop and take the transit, or the trailer however she's off up to the highlands in a motorhome with mum and grandma so lifting a solid or fully inflated kayak is out the question. I suppose I could bumper mount a PTO hydrovane and rig up a chain/belt drive from a jacked up front wheel or even an extra crank pulley; make an adaptor to replace one or two injectors and use the engine as a half pump or even fit some air valves to the field roller, pre charge it and they could tow it behind...
  2. Good morning, firstly apologies if this has been covered but the search didn't throw anything up. My better half has bought herself an inflatable 3 man kayak as you do... the pump the shop were selling was rather weedy and about £100 so that got left behind. As you probably guess I am looking to get a 12v compressor that can double as a rapid kayak blower-upperer and handy tyre pump should it be needed when away from home. looking on Ebay and Amazon there seems to a large choice with most of them coming out the same factory I guess. So are any better than others? any links and suggestions welcome. Will.
  3. @Mudmonkey Don't you have some ?
  4. I use one of these for gear oil and ATF makes the job much easier.
  5. The filter for taking the oil out the air? I must admit I never bothered, the air coming out a workshop compressor isn’t exactly Sarahan dry and I wasn’t using it for spray painting ( tried it once but it didn’t like it at all got far too hot. )
  6. Don't forget a snatch block for increased control!
  7. I used a tee in the rocker breather hose so it pulled the oily air out the engine, worked fine for me.
  8. Personally because i'm a rough arse I would drop the intercooler pipe off the inlet manifold, engage the starter and then see if it will run on wd40 or duck oil sprayed in sparingly from a distance, anything less potent than ether/brake cleaner to reduce the knock. You are only trying to run it at just over tick over to bleed everything through saving the starter. This is what I do on generators, water pumps etc that are being a total pain and can't be tow started.
  9. Some options here if Ralphs prices are extortionate 🙃 Super Power Winch
  10. I passed one on the road on trade plates round the corner from chandlers today, all black.
  11. I couldn't be 100% as I only have sprinters, I have never dabbled with crafters. I know the 2l in the new shape crafter and TGE is not all that brilliant from what I see but having said that % failure rate is probably still quite small. I know the earlier crafters used the 2.5 4 pot and many people told me they were abit of a boat anchor however we started hiring an extremely abused and remapped example with over 300k on the clock and it went like stink, was good on fuel and the owners said they were brilliant, that particular one had only ever had fan belts and possibly a water pump and a similar story for the other 30 ish they had with that engine. I know I need to replace one of my sprinters and I really am torn with what to buy, if I can find one I think it will be a euro 6 316 but the prices are just eye watering and I really want auto and air con with narrow the search quite considerably.
  12. It’s a Perkins Ad3 I believe, I think I can get a brand new block for £350 I just need to make sure it’s the right one. If it is I will probably go this route for ease, I’m a little bit sick of this ‘quick’ project now. Plenty of other things to be getting on with.
  13. Curiosity kills the cat as they say.. Sharp chisel
  14. AFAIK the crafters use a VW engine with a timing belt, the earlier 2.5 was quite a good engine from what I have heard from people running them in fleets.
  15. Unfortunately there's quite a change in shape on the side of the block so a plate won't do it. Im mulling over whether to waste more time with some JB weld or similar or bite the bullet and get a new block. May aswell make life as easy as possible!
  16. Small update, attempt two at brazing most definitely unsuccessful, holes were drilled and tapped, grub screws put in and peened over before starting. Not sure what's in the cast but it will not take to anything and loves to pop and bang just when you think you have a nice pool. You can actually watch the cracks growing as you are welding despite pre heat. The only thing I can say is after smashing the living bejesus out of it this morning with a hammer to the point where you can watch the cracks 'poof' dust out it seems the sidewall is stronger than I thought and id definitely have a go at cold stitching were I to end up in this position again. I dare say if you were able to put the bare block in an oven and get it properly warm you might stand half a chance however that's just not practiacal in this situation. I guess I better start looking for a new block.
  17. It is also extremely annoying trying to keep in line the two tag washers that hold them as you tighten the bolts up.
  18. If each end bolts up tight I would just do that, once it has been used for a while everything will find its own medium.
  19. I have just stumbled across this 16' ifor whilst looking for something else, granted it was through Bradford which does have its own special traffic system however any plod I saw strongly avoided eye contact and the journey was rather un eventful. I had upgraded to the hi vis coat for allll the safety.
  20. As above I can't really see it being an issue along as nothing can fall out. You will want to crack the vent flaps a notch or two to stop exhaust fumes being pulled back in the cabin.
  21. Looks lovely but the 421 is only a 4 cylinder I imagine they will be a little gutless!
  22. Yes total amount on the day for Yorkshire air ambulance. Local dealer where I used to work is John Deere so they have a fairly big presence in the area as you can see!
  23. Ok so a small update, block cleaned up, part drilled and tapped for some dowls to try and stop it flexing and then we are going to pool braze over the top. And a quick picture from the start of the run, it doesn't really do it justice but a convoy of 380 is mad when you are on one side of a valley and you can see it snaking its was across the other side miles away.
