Simon, apologies, I missed your last post.
I think you are right. However , keen as I am, I've already ordered them. So if anyone is doing your type of conversion, I have bulbs and holders

Steven, I don't think that a 1986 19j TD dash harness counts as a TD5 harness.
Since I'm using the td5 gauge and the green sender again, surely it can only be additional resistance in the harness that makes it work as on the 300 export vehicles.
I have the same gauge, the same sender so it can only be the wire !
The harness is a bit pricey at £55 and more than I'm willing to pay for several 8" wires and a multiplug.

I've tried the green sender and it reads too high !
Stu thinks that if we put a resister in the wire from the sender to the guage and use the old black sender (which reads low) we should be able to tune the resistance to suit the gauge. I've been looking at the RS online catalogue but I don't know which ones to buy I'm looking at a range between 5ohms and 20ohms. Could one of you techy types advise ?

Engine oil, I get from Morrisons Supermarket and change every 3000 miles along with the filter.
An diesel engine designer that I met at Millbrook whilst on assignment there many moons ago when it was still owned by Vauxhall told me that as long as the oil is the right grade, regular oil and filter changing on a diesel is far more important than expensive high quality oils because of the nature of the way in which diesel engines contaminate the oil. There was far more to his explanation but it was over 10 years ago and I can't remember but that's the crux of it.

Simon, that looks really good ! The led in the slider looks very good indeed I have the td5 binnacle but the older type push and turn bulb holders don't fit but I'll try your wedge bulb holders from rs as they should do the trick, ta

The clutch claw seems quite highly regarded but is somewhat less serious than the meck lock. Value for money would point towards the ebay one but whether it's any good is another matter.

I've got the green one now, I'll give it a go in the morning.
Thanks Jim and Stephen
Stephen old boy, may I ask one more favour of you. If you find yourself with 10 mins with nothing to do Would you mind doing a resistance reading between one end of the temp sender wire and the other. I just want to find out if there is extra resistance put into the circuit. A bit of a liberty I realise but Pretty please

Keep the 300 and buy lockers and big tyres if you really feel you need them. But if you feel you are going to need them then perhaps a 90 would better suit your needs ?
