Er......the difference in colour is exactly that, chose the one you like. As for the size, 11mm and 12mm (or 9.5, 10 etc) is exactly that, the rope is a different diameter, the bigger it is the stronger and the higher the breaking strain, as such for a suzuki you could get away with an 8mm rope, a standard defender 9.5mm is fine, comp users tend to prefer thicker as it wears better so chose 11mm or sometimes more.

Size wise its about 16' wide and probably 45 ft long.

I rent them on a local farm, there is no room to modify the layout as the wall between them is structural and rather decrepid, even without it the space isnt ideal, no chance of convinging the farmer to change anything either as the whole farm is subject to a probate battle whilst they sort who is going to own it! The new place is about 1.5x wider and length of more than double the stables. (so more like the 2 together end on end with extra width)

Since moving to devon ive been struggling with 2 stables, one for tools and one for the car. Today i found a new workshop on a farm but the farmer said "make me an offer" to rent it.....i have no idea where to start, so what do you guys have space and facilities wise, and what does it cost you?

Using a car engine for long term generator purposes is a bad idea, it will get very hot and is not designed for prolonged high load stationary use, a generator is designed for this and would be far better suited. You are better off using a combination of batteries to store power and finding a "green" solution to charge them, a combination of solar cells and wind power could prove effective in Australia, also have you considered using solar cells (heat not photovoltaic) to heat your water instead of the 7.5kw heater - its free hot water 24/7.....

No idea Ralph but i can assure you that fuse box is under the drivers seat with the ECU.

Fuse boxes are in the centre in front of the gearstick below dash, and under the drivers seat with the ECU, battery is under the passenger side.

If you make it down to Devon at all or even perhaps dorset then there are plenty of us who would gladly show you.

If its a TD5 the Engine ECU and 10AS alarm system ecu.

Contrary to this having done 40-0 in 0.001 seconds i can say their toughness and lack of give probably saved me, it wrote off my beloved 90 but i walked away with little more than a bruse on my cheek and a sore neck for a few days! Rock sliders with tree bars are about asd good as it gets for defender side protection, however i have heard of a case where a car was rolled on its side because of the lifting motion of the impacting car under the slider. Takes your choice but id rather be in one piece and on my side, than have a car parked on my lap in a side impact.

Interesting - looks like the kinda stuff ive been after for coating the inside of the d-lander. What pre-prep is needed to use it? Where are they based, mid devon is my part of the country...

I purchased the switches (carling ones to match the ARB locker ones) for my D-Lander a long time ago, and have now lost the list and forgotten what they were all for. What do you guys have switched from your dashboard/centre console in your trucks (excluding standard headlights/wipers/indicators as they are on stalks) So far ive got: Front locker (on/off) Rear Locker (on/off) Compressor (on/off) Front Winch (mom-off-mom) Rear Winch (mom-off-mom) N/S Window (mom-off-mom) O/S Window (mom-off-mom) Engine Fan (on-off-on) Auxillary Lights (on-off-on)

Can anyone give me some dimensions for the plastic casing that goes around the steering colums in a defender (pref td5 but i assume they are the same). Its one of these for reference..... Bottom Shroud Top Shroud

I know mike is the god of all things glass, i saw his work on Mouse, however im not a glass-god and can only do repairs and such like rather than lay up whole panels easily.

I intend on making a card mockup of at least a bit of it to see how she looks post 3D CAD designing. She will be water cut locally, im going to try and avoid needing welding done as its a fair trek to Jez these days!

I'm just concerned about it fitting properly and looking decent and not bodged, the rest of the car is nicely finished and this would be the last major bit. On the flip side i have spent most of the day modelling the inside in solidworks so i can design it!

I'm having a dilemma about the dashboard for the d-lander, currently she doesnt have one, however i do have a freelander 1 dash for her, which has been fitted and removed many times. The issues i have are, its not a great fit, the air vents are unusable, its got its missing where the airbags were etc and probable needs a lot of work to make it acceptable, and to top it off the one thing i really hated about the freelander was its dash....i like the outside, it even drives ok but the 25gazillion textures and materials they used to bodge the interior was a major mess. So, i was thinking about fabricating a new dash from scratch in aluminium, designed with switches where i want them, dials where i can see them etc. Am i crazy - has anyone else done a similar thing and is there any advice you can share?
