  1. I've always had a second car, be it my own or through the other half, mostly we both have normal cars, and then i have a 90/110/landrover thing as well!!! I did it because of my commute, to do the 100+ miles each way in a 90 would have killed me and my bank balance so i opted for the car, its also better for nipping to the shops, picking up the kids or taking the in-laws out for lunch, these days im down to a practical A3 (well kinda practical)for day to day, the misses' golf estate and the d-lander. It costs a lot to run a second car once you add it all up, insurance, purchase, running, tax, fuel - probably more than filling a thirsty 90 on a reghular basis but there is more to it when you consider comfort and speed either end of a long working day.
  2. Just a thought but does anyone know how much it would cost to galvanise a brand new disco chassis thats been chopped about a bit with a full welded cage on it?? (its the d-lander!)
  3. Cubby for "normal" use, however i ended up looking to put a centre seat back in mine so i could take the misses and little-un in the truck cab.
  4. My personal preference is TD5, ive owned several 90's with older and newer engines and much prefer the TD5's over the others doesnt matter on the use for me. I decided to use a TD5 for my D-Lander too
  5. Rubbish - lockers have been around a lot longer than hardened shafts and it just means you temper your driving style as the heavy right foot is no longer needed, there are probably some hardened 10 spline shafts lurking anyway, possibly even in the axles the OP is considering,. 10 spline shafts are no weaker in real operation than 24 spline (standard) shfats - i know this frome experience as do many others.
  6. Cant go wrong for that money, they usually sell for that much each, at least.
  7. Do a search on here, this topic comes up weekly and regardless of vehicle the list is pretty mucht eh same. One thing you will want to consider with air suspension is changing it to coils. I understand its easy to burst air suspension on overland trips due to high vehicle weight and rough roads and spares arent easy to get or any stronger than the bust bit they replace.
  8. Interesting debate but i really dont see the problem with cages having to be MSA spec, if you want to enter the event then you comply, and for those saying its pricey - im sorry but you only have to look at our sport to see there is plenty of money floating about with most serious competitors building a new vehicle every season or at least every other with a radical rebuild inbetween. Personally i dont have bags of cash, but i shall still compete and think it would be a shame to make the event into really short sections and lose the "speed" element of it as it was originally intended.
  9. I have 2, one 12v and one 24v although i still need to fabricate soem mounts for the air-con gap to hold it in place.
  10. For that kind of money id suggest you look st TD5's - 110 hardtops aren't the most desirable model regsardless of engine and those prices seem high.
  11. Wait for dave to reply with the "fitting procedure", sadly i fitted mine before someone told me the technique and mine might be bust...or might not! I got my compushift from dave too - very helpful chap, im just longing to get it all finished and get driving again.
  12. Speak to Jez @ HOFS (dollythew on here) as he can certainly make you one. Otherwise more mainstream options are people like allisport.
  13. My 37x12.5 creepy crawlers measure up at 36.5" tall.....
  14. Or just move to 24v (either overvolting or with 24v motor) and by doubling the voltage halve the current
  15. Missing sid - it didnt upgrade as yours is an update release (like a service pack for windows) where as V3.0.x to V3.5 is an upgeade, similar as moving from xp to vista, it doesnt happen automatically. Personally i use IE8 these days after using firefox for years and i have found it to be lightweight, fast and never had a problem with any site or silly behavior.
  16. Good to hear you got it back, dont suppose they found the guys who nicked it??
  17. Surely after Scorpion going bust, then its replacement going bust he must have been struck off as a director......
  18. Some shafts - i'll drop you a pm Si
  19. I have some prototype parts that i need machining so if anyone out there has a CNC lathe and wants a small run of work please send me a message!
  20. I dont know where you managed to get full class 1 training for that as ive looked into it several times recently and it seems to be 3-4times that cost minimum!
  21. In reality you might as well build it to "spec" for several reasons, firstly if you change your mind on its use, or sell it then it fits the regs, and secondly the regs are build on many years experience and expertese which you would be wise to follow for your own safety.
  22. I spoke to ASD and they dont have it, nor can they get it despite listing it! The chap even questioned where i got the size from and i said its in the ISO/BS standard and also on their website to which i got a rather deathly silence. Have since sourced some 75x50x6 which whilst not perfect is adequate and was supplied kindly by RB Engineering who are a local company that will also do my water jet cutting.
  23. Does anyone know of a stockist of steel who have 80x40x6 angle as i need some for a project but whilst its a "standard size" i cant seem to find anyone who lists it!
  24. Ooh nice, i want to drive it even more now!!! I would question the reliability like GBMUD has, oil filters and engines shouldnt give way after a few hundred miles!
