  1. Wouldn't worry too much, our transit and mates hilux both did this from new. It's not a problem but I think is more to do with hot exhaust meeting the cold air. My 110 has always done it.
  2. My old 110 hardtop 200tdi ran fine with a 1.2 and would happily cruise to Italy at 85 to 90 mph and 30+mpg. If yours wont there is something wrong with it.
  3. Checked my 110 and it's exempt (at the moment!). But the zone extends WELL outside london to within 1/2 mile of my house. In fact many local farmers won't be able to cross the road to the field on the other side without paying £200.00 or buying a new landy!
  4. Yes, I saw it. No 4x4's allowed but I was pleased to see several Marlin Roadsters taking part. I built a Marlin many years ago before my first landy, and used it for greenlaning and for blasting around on tarmac. Brilliant little car, which took me along much of the ridgeway, if you get stuck in the ruts you just get out and lift it out. No jack needed
  5. Having just removed the overdrive this weekend I can safely say I dont have the countersunk screws either. 1992 110csw
  6. I have to say I treated mine VERY carefully, but it didn't help.
  7. My GKN just failed after 40K miles. Never used as a splitter only as 6th gear on the motorway etc, hardly any towing, regular oil changes. I thought the clutch was slipping so fitted new clutch and hydraulics but it was the overdrive. It appears that this is a very common fault and is why they are no longer available. Certainly wouldn't recommend one. Will take it apart when I get time and see if the design can be improved.
  8. Yes. Just drilled a hole in the arm and used the brass bit from a "chocolate block" connector cut in half to hold the rod in place. Then made a box to cover it all up and keep it neat. It can't be unlocked from inside anymore, but with a pivlock fitted you can't open it anyway.
  9. Fitted a cheapy kit from ebay to my 110 SW, works fine wired to my alarm. Also fitted an actuator to the rear door, which is a bit trickier as you will have to make a box to cover it.
  10. 11 years R&D engineer on things painted green that I can't talk about. 11 years refrigeration engineering/draughtsman working on supermarket contracts and the last eleven years mending garden machinery.
  11. We used to draw it from the stores as simply "NATO Green" but I havent seen a good match for it available anywhere. Having it mixed from a sample would be the best idea and many paint specialists can do this.
  12. Havent been on a training course for a while now. The trouble is all the manufacturers run the courses at our busiest time of the year when we are doing winter servicing. Nobody runs them in october when we are twiddling our thumbs. All the dealers I know complain endlessly about this but to no avail. Have to admit to owning an electric Bosch too, a very old one. I like the fact that I can cut logs under the carport without upsetting the neighbours. I dont like the tools free bar fitting on the new ones as I can never get it to work properly. For petrol I have an old Alpina made from scrap I used to like the Tanake electric saw as we got a good deal on it, but they have stopped supplying it as they had too many problems (we didn't have any). This was a re-badged McCulloch in orange which I think is now available as a Husqvarna going by the catalogue. As for buying cheap chains, most is made by Oregon anyway so there are bargains around. Stihl make their own but Oregon is just as good. We keep chain on 100ft rolls as there are so many different saws around.
  13. Just checked our Husqvarna ordering system, and we still order from Electrolux, and the spares price list is shared with Flymo and the rest of the group. McCulloch Europe is owned by Electrolux but McCulloch USA is a different company altogether. Not all spares are available for USA products as they are not all supported in the UK. Just a quick edit Husqvarna is indeed now a seperate group and no longer part of Electrolux. However Electrolux still show it as part of their group. They still clearly work closely together. Flymo is now also part of Husqvarna group. I think if you could check the shareholders they would be seperate companies joined at the hip.
  14. We supply, and repair most makes. McCulloch/Partner Cheap n cheerful, OK for light domestic use. Not good enough for us to sell. Stihl. Professional ones very good. New cheap ones absolute c*** and horrible to work on. Stihl don't treat their dealers as well as the other brands, so we only get them in to order. 020T (200T) is the best top handled saw you can buy. Jonhsered/Husqvarna. Good saws, easier to work on than Stihl but cheap johnsereds are very similar to McCullochs due to them all being made by Electrolux. Tanaka. Best reliability of the lot due to being japanese. Smallest ones a bit plasticky but we havent had many break. Easiest of the lot for DIY maintainence. We sell more of these than any other make mainly to proffessional users, local authorities etc. Some come with 3 year pro warranty. It's not actually illegal for us to sell a top handled saw to somone without a ticket. This is something the manufacturers and retailers agreed on to try and prevent H&S from banning them. You won't get one from us without the paperwork so don't even try!
  15. I have 265/75 BFG M/T on the 110, havent had to adjust anything, standard suspension. Nothing fouls, and it worked last season carrying 12 people plus 2 dogs off road on the shoot.
  16. Can't remember my old 2.5 NA having any HP.
  17. Didn't even bother to watch it. From the trailers it was clear that it was aimed at the same people who don't like me shooting fluffy bunnies for dinner and think it's ok to illegally release town foxes into the countryside. The same people who tell me to get a smaller car but are unable to tell me how to get 12 people and 2 labradors to the top of the hill in it. The same people who very nearly run me over in their volvos and BMWs when I'm crossing the lane with the dog. The same people that drive their kids 200yards to school in a Pious and then curse me for driving a cleaner car than them.
  18. Definately the 107 station wagon, but for practicality my 110 SW
  19. Dark chocky hobnobs...... Damn I will have to go shopping now. I have a Scrapiron front bumper, which appeared better finished than anyone elses, and I am pleased with it. HOWEVER it took ages to get, many phone calls which were not returned, and cost a lot of money. Now I know a bit more about them I won't use them again.
  20. Mine don't rattle after 15 years, I am always opening and closing them for the dog and they are quite tight and hard to move. Is this only a problem on the later ones?
  21. I have been running 60% used oil with 40% diesel for some time now, I have both water-fuel heat exchanger and a glowplug type one to speed things up. It runs fine but smokes a bit on startup, seems to smoke less once running though. I think a less oily mix may be needed in colder weather though
  22. A particular manufacturer of machines that we service use cone clutches with a steel inner cone and a ferodo lining on the outer. They are complete cr** We serviced a rotavator that came in muddy, so we did what we always do and pressure washed it. Big mistake as a week or so later the steel rusts and literally bonds itself to the ferodo, not only could you not disengage it but trying to bent the release arm! Other grass cutting machines from the same manufacturer are always burning out clutches and destroying thrust bearings. I think the automotive industry gave up on them for good reason. Stick to the disk Simon, it's the muts.
  23. My 110 always performs better on french diesel compared to english. The improvement always stays when I get home until I have to fill with english rubbish. This week I poured some Derv from my local filling station into a clear jug, It was milky white with what appeared to be fatty globules in it. The chipfat I get from the chippy is cleaner BEFORE I filter it.
