  1. Diesel needs to be cool, if it's too hot apparently it loses its lubricity. Thats what I was told anyway. Wer your injectors new or reconditioned?
  2. My 200 Tdi did the same thing, sounded just like loose tappets but the adjustment was spot on. At the time I had a fuel heater fitted to run on veg oil, but was running on diesel. I removed the heater and the noise disapeared. Based on my experience I would say it could be the injectors.
  3. If you remove the relay you will have to connect a couple of the terminals together so your lights work. I did this on mine, but can't remember which terminals you need to connect together. To avoid trying to rewire things in the dash, I actually dismembered the relay and made up the link inside the now empty relay housing.
  4. Yes, firt one of them, mine is an armval one but I think theyre not around anymore. It is much easier to adjust accurately and is the correct way to adjust boost. The diaphragm is designed to operate only at the standard pressure and the pushrod adjustment is really only for fine tuning. With the valve you can set the boost as high as you are brave enough to.
  5. New ones should be available shortly, but now called Iveco Massif. Supposedly been improved but its still basically a S3.
  6. My pressure wash set to pencil jet removed the long defender stickers from my mates 110. Even the glue Pity he didn't check how it was set before pulling the trigger
  7. Still no sign of the Landy or the Dogs, not looking good.
  8. Another one lost it on Titsey hill this morning, demolished a telegraph pole. Went over to Kingswood on the M25 this morning, had to queue for ages because of muppets stopping on the box junction on the roundabout.
  9. No, unfortunately they are still missing!
  10. Sorry, I have been a member of Nob's for such a long time now that I forgot. You didn't have to register originally.
  11. Drive down Titsey in top gear using the brakes, and I guarantee you won't be able to perform an emergency stop at the bottom. I demonstrated this to myself once, when I thought the disk brakes on my "new" Spitfire would be fine, I drove down the hill in top gear and tried to slow and turn into the pilgrims way at the bottom. I could not make the turn so stopped further down the road. The disks were red hot and the hub grease was boiling and coming out the seals. Most modern cars are heavier than a Spitfire, and most only have single pot calipers, so I don't think they would perform much better. I would rather people wore their gearboxes out (how?) than kept having accidents. There used to be a sign saying "engage low gear now" at the top of the hill, but it has been removed. We have an accident at least once a month at the bottom of the hill, but the authorities refuse to make it a blackspot because not enough people are killed Where is the logic in that? Two months ago I closed the road off while the police were on their way, my lodger attended the accident with other neighbours and did what they could. A man lost control of his car coming down the hill, his brakes failed and he couldn't make the bend. He hit a 4x4 coming the other way and was killed instantly, it was not a pretty sight. Because of where I live, and the sheer number of accidents we see in the village, I KNOW that the modern method is wrong. Fortunately most cars just end up in the field
  12. A defender 130 was stolen in Leigh, Kent on friday evening. More importantly the owners dogs were in it. http://www.nobs.org.uk/forum/phpbb2/viewto...&highlight= Please keep your eyes peeled
  13. A 130 was stolen from Leigh, I don't suppose it passed you http://www.nobs.org.uk/forum/phpbb2/viewto...&highlight=
  14. I frequently use Limiweld to repair aluminium castings etc at work. Done properly it won't break in the same place again, but does take a little practice. Have also used it succesfully on the unweldable ****metal they make carb bodies and window hinges from.
  15. When I'm in the tractor, everyone coming towards me thinks I'm driving a mini. One day the 10' wide flail mower on the back will have someones roof off, or their head if they're in a 4x4 In the Landy most people give me space, but there are many who think it's ok to drive straight at me down the middle of the pilgrims way and that I will stop for them. If there's plenty of room I ain't stopping so you better move over. On the bike, I often ride to Croydon up the B269. There is a long section with herringbones surrounded by broken lines where I could safely pass the near stationary traffic. So why do most motorists deliberately pull over into the herringbones to stop me And I think the slowing down with the brakes thing is so very wrong. Every winter someone gets killed on Titsey hill because they brake on the ice instead of changing down at the top of the hill. I was taught, I believe correctly, that brakes are only for bringing the vehicle to a standstill. Why was it changed? I was told that the change was made because it's easier to replace brakes than clutches, but there are two things wrong with this argument. Firstly on a long hill you can easily overheat disk brakes to the point that an emergency stop at the bottom is impossible, I have seen glowing disks at the bottom of titsey, and we have accidents all the time at the bottom where people can't stop. Secondly using engine braking properly cannot possibly wear the clutch.
  16. I solved the problem by getting a large dog.
  17. Not sure what you mean by wrong way round? As far as I remember, not having taken them apart for some time, you have one each way on each side with the springs on the back.
  18. I have found with tractor stuff that increasing the pipe diameter can make a huge difference to flow rates, so it's worth a try, especially as hoses can be made up so cheaply.
  19. It has ATF in it. Its going in tomorrow so they can have a drive and for the MOT so I suppose I better wash some of the mud off it It was sticky to change up too, but adjusting the bias fixed that. It has now started occasionaly crunching changing up to 3rd, but changing down to 3rd is virtually impossible above about 15mph. Having checked everything else, I am now convinced the fault is the sychro rings, if so it will have to come out again as towing the trailer is near impossible.
  20. That's what I thought, the gearbox is under warranty anyway, so it's not really a problem, just wondered if anyone had had this before.
  21. I had a new Ashcrofts gearbox fitted a couple of months back. Together with a new clutch. Six months earlier I had just had a new clutch, master cylinder, slave cylinder and hose. But the clutch was replaced again due to the gearbox leaking oil all over it which got baked on like tar. Now I seem to have no synchromesh on third gear unless I drive for an hour and get everything really hot. I can change through all the other gears perfectly, but changing down from 4th to third is almost impossible except at almost a standstill. Even double declutching has no effect at all. Checked the fluid and the free play adjustment today which made no difference. Its going over to AJS on Friday to be looked at, but meanwhile any ideas?
  22. Designed specifically to make your outriggers rust away.
  23. I have a 4D maglite and last year bought a 3D single LED Draper torch for walking the dog. The Draper one is just as tough as the maglite, about 5 times brighter, and is is still on it's original batteries. It gets a lot of use too, like every night in the winter. Worth a look. Retails at £30.44 but I got it through work. Nobody sells Draper at retail price though!
  24. Never used a towball mounted winch, but ou won't go far wrong with a Tirfor. Haven't got any spare ones have you
  25. I fit a normal numberplate with cable ties for the MOT. But as far as I know, and two traffic cops I have asked agree with me. Provided your plate was fitted before the law changed and is still in good condition it is still legal. Only new plates have to have the BS mark etc, if fitted before 1st sept '01 they have to conform to the standard, but do not have to display the BS number. Interestingly DVLA are considering making adhesive plates compulsory to stop theft Do like those lights, is anyone going to import them
