  1. Most water in distributors is condensation, when it's warm and then gets a soaking it is chilled and condensation forms on the inside. When we built the mini special for the Weavers boxing day trial many years ago, all I did was put a bag over the cap and fill it with expanding foam to insulate it. I got soaked in freezing water driving said mini through the lake with water level over the bonnet, passing two V8s on the way. Yes it had a snorkel and high level exhaust too. I would think if you can blow warm dry air into it you should get a similar effect.
  2. Don't know the spec of the pas pump on the Ford 8210, but that could turn the front wheels from lock to lock as fast as you could spin the wheel at tickover. The ram was about 2-1/2" diameter so must have had a decent flow rate. Looked like a scaled up Landy pump about 6" diameter and 10" long. Ok found it in the handbook PAS pump 1600psi no flow rate given Hydraulic pump (the one that fits in the palm of your hand) 2500 psi 38.9Ltr/min. Now being as the PAS pump is twice the size and much less powerful, I can only assume the extra size was to give it a high flow rate?
  3. The guys at Solihull used lots of sealer, none of it in the right place! The only way I've found that works is to remove the roof and clean everything up, then refit using a bit less sealer but in the right places.
  4. Have you tried the NFU? They weren't fussed by any of the mods on my 110, and were the cheapest by a big margin. The only thing they had to ask the underwriter about was the big intercooler, but even that came back as no problem. But the main reason I use them is they are the only company that will cover an 11 seater that I have found.
  5. I might just look for another pump and stick it on the garden tractor instead then. Still like the idea of being able to split logs before bringing them home though.
  6. Ok, so I have a pile of very large logs and a splitting Maul. Too much like hard work me thinks. But as I know many of you have hydraulic winches driven by the PAS pump, I wondered if anyone had added a spool valve to the system? Sounds like a future project to me, might need a bigger fluid tank, but otherwise can't see why not.
  7. Had all sorts of problems with insurance companies regarding seats. Most normal companies not only hate bench seats, but won't insure anything with more than 7 seats. In the end went to NFU who didn't care how many seats or where they were, and only cost half the next cheapest quote anyway!
  8. Being ex refrigeration engineer, my solution would be to use solenoid valves rather than electric pumps, these could be switched via a relay with another one to switch the fuel gauge. No bulky taps, just a changeover switch on the dash.
  9. 2,500 Ltrs is it? I was a bit out then! Never got close to using enough to worry about it. Even when I was paying duty on it it was at a much reduced rate to Derv so it still came out pretty cheap. Still looking for a local source of cheap used veg oil to put through my filtration system since I lost the supply I had.
  10. Will have to dig out the letter I got from HMRC. I used to be registered as a fuel producer in order to use veg oil, which you had to do to be legal. Then they wrote and told me I didn't have to declare any more provided it was less than (I think) 5000 Ltrs a year. There has been no notification that this has changed.
  11. Well mine always ran red too. No way was expensive derv going in it. Most of my work was mowing paddocks, but aparently if you don't know that it's not going to be used for agriculture, you are covered. Clearing snow should mean using Derv but like most of the above cases I think it is largely ignored.
  12. It can get very complicated, as I found when investigating what I could use in the tractor. Trailer load of cow**** = Red Trailer load of horse**** = Derv Plough on tractor going to field = Red Plough on trailer going to blacksmith = Derv Going to mow a horse paddock = Derv Going to mow a cow field = Red Going to mow hay but not known what animal will eat it = Red Cutting a hedge in a rural area = Red Cutting a hedge on an industrial estate = Derv Towing a trailer over 20mph = Derv and an HGV license Towing a trailer under 20mph = Red and a car license Having said all that, phone the same people from Revenue and DVLA a week later and you will likely get different answers!!!!! Even they don't know??
  13. And many contractors, myself included until I gave up a couple of years ago, don't earn enough to be vat registered. Still have the right to use red though! Had my tank dipped once on the Reigate M25 roundabout, but never used red, so no worries.
  14. Non automotive silicone sealants will swell to double their size in contact with Hydrocarbons, see it almost every day at work.
  15. I wouldn't know, but came to the conclusion long ago that no two Landys are the same, so try it. My old 110 200Tdi the downpipe would almost fall out, but with this one it's impossible. Both look identical to me!!
  16. As long as it's automotive RTV it's the right stuff. Wouldn't use it if it has Wickes on the tube though! For anything with thin paper gaskets I use Wellseal.
  17. I agree too, unlikely to be anything wrong in the T box from your description.
  18. If the crank turned due to not being pegged, but nothing else did, the valve timing could be 1 tooth out too. I would start again from scratch before fiddling with the pump timing.
  19. Mine survived fine in a early 110 with a 200Tdi fitted that I used for towing and for on and off road. Well after replacing the output shaft it did anyway. Took me to Italy and up a couple of Alps and survived 100,000 miles after rebuilding it.
  20. Is that your next project Barry? BTW I still have some logs for you
  21. Exactly what I do, no problems for me either though I just had to adjust the bearings on one side after a year. They looked fine so perhaps I hadnt got the outer race fully home the first time.
  22. So why have they decided that vehicles built from '73 to '98 should have different rules applied to them? Yes let's have London completely snowbound next winter. I will tow the cars to the top of Titsey and then abandon them in a snowdrift in the middle of the road "Sorry this is as far as I go" And I want all hybrids banned from country lanes after nearly getting run over by a poxy silent Prius walking the dog last year!!!!
  23. Oh yes, I forgot to mention. The indicator light on the dash will make all four indicators flash at the same time if you go the route I did. All I did was disconnect it, earth one terminal and connect the original two wires to the other terminal via a couple of diodes. Now works perfectly.
  24. I fitted the electronic relay, which I got from Ebay. Works a treat with bulbs or LEDs so you can switch from one to the other should you need to if one gets broken. The only problem is that it does not detect the trailer is plugged in when you have LEDs fitted.
  25. The interesting bit is that the "experts" in Halfords told me they can't mix cans of Alpine white because it needs lead in it to get a match I have Alpine White for my spraygun, but just wanted a rattle can for doing some little bits.
