  1. A warning to all those who drive vehicles with electronic handbrakes. We just had a new shape VW beetle crash into the front of the shop, moving the whole shop front in by 2". It was parked on our steep drive with the handbrake on when it suddenly released. The lever was still applied. A quick search on the internet revealed this to be a very common problem with all current VW cars. It also affects some other makes such as Lexus. I don't know if any LR products have reported this issue, but if you have an electronic handbrake, please park in gear or in Park.
  2. News to me. Still plenty of people advertising in the classic bike mags. Anyone who can do fork legs should be able to do it.
  3. Can recommend Namrick for anything unusual. Even got a tap for the glowplug thread on model plane engines from them.
  4. Quite agree with that. Also if you get the shaft nice and clean there should be a couple of arrows stamped on it to show you where it should be, although they are sometimes pretty hard to see.
  5. Do we get a proper do, with speeches and everything
  6. That's what I did, but I use LED's in all my lights except the headlights, so virtualy no load at all
  7. Sorry to hear that. Four have been stolen in and around Oxted since Christmas that I know of. Apparently Defenders are the most stolen vehicle in Surrey.
  8. We use Winzur Worth at work and they are very good. However on tough material such as stainless or for drilling out broken bolts etc Dormer are still the best by a huge margin. I have a selection of Dormer drills in my toolbox from my MOD days and they will even drill out most self tapping screws. I have never come accross any other drills which will do this.
  9. Its a '92 Lt77 Looks like I will be using the bike next week
  10. Been told today after speaking to Andy at AJS that it's not going to cost me anything now. Hopefully the gearbox will be repaired this week.
  11. Well, I have been struggling with this useless gearbox for nearly a year now, It was fitted in June '08 and I reported the first gearchange difficulties the following week. I adjusted the bias springs and was told that "it needed to be run in" It was supplied with bolts missing in the first place, has been a problem all the time I've had it, and now I'm told I will have to pay to have it removed, sent back to be repaired and refitted. This is more than a weeks wages for me so is a no go for starters. Apparently this is called a "warranty" Starting to get angry now.
  12. You will have to fit the flywheel, and the bush from a manual car, I have seen where the steel bush has not been changed and the input shaft will weld itself to the crankshaft.
  13. I have the Janspeed performance one on mine and am very impressed with it. It seems to work well with the Alisport intercooler, sounds nice without being loud, and fits perfectly. I tried to fit a Rimmer bros one to my old 110 and it was awful, didn't fit at all well and was sent back for a refund. Only downside was I got it from scrapiron racing so it took forever to get the right bits.
  14. The one I bought does studs as well, it's gone up a bit since I bought it though! It does work very well and has more than paid for itself. http://www.toolbay.co.uk/Laser-Tools/NutBo...k-Bolt-Kit.aspx
  15. Is the breather clear? Mine gummed up with veg oil once and caused the same symptoms.
  16. I got the same one from toolbay a couple of years ago, was only about £45.00 if I remember correctly.
  17. The high beam light will have power all the time it is in high beam. Connect the light to the output from the relay and it will light up when the spot lights are actually switched on, why would you want to know there is power to the relay when they are off?
  18. When you remove the relay you will have to connect two of the wires together. There is a post on here somewhere telling you which ones. I can't remember which wires myself, but did this last year on mine.
  19. Pre SVA I built or helped build several road vehicles, and you could pretty much do as you pleased. Only had to pass the MOT and an engineers report for the insurance company. I never needed the engineers report as they accepted my employment at the time to be sufficient. I helped build a Jago Jeep kit I built a marlin roadster from a kit Helped build a Ginetta G4 (never again) I built the chassis for an RTV special using Lada Niva running gear under a Jago Samurai body. (Anyone know where it is now? DVLA said it was taxed last time I checked) Helped build a couple of Duttons. In those days if you got it MOT'd and Taxed and drove it for a while on the old reg no it was easy to keep the number. Otherwise you got a Q
  20. I would save even more money and leave the old ones in it. Never had to use the glow plugs on a 200Tdi, not even a few days ago at -6C. Would not use unbranded plugs though, as I have known them to break up and put a nice score down the side of the piston and cylinder. I am sure there is a thread on here somewhere about it.
  21. I fitted remote servos to the fiddle brakes on my trialler many years ago. Came off a BMW in the local scrapyard, many old BMWs had two remote servos on the brakes, one for each circuit. Quite compact and would tuck away in the wing of a defender easily.
  22. Does the Lucas kit work on DVD recorders? The smoke came out of my friends the other week and this could have saved the expense of a new one.
