  1. Welllll, I was kinda hoping my luck would change, OK that's the one bit I forgot to order.....
  2. Well, the parts are ordered, the ramps are arranged, been practising the bad language, so let battle commence....
  3. ramps will give me slightly greater height and are infinitely more stable on the gravel in the garden..........Ask me how I worked that one out
  4. was thinking of using 4 ramps, drive onto the front, then jack the rear up onto the back - can't go anywhere then!
  5. As I now need to remove the transfer/gearbox from the Exxon Valdiz I own, can anyone recomend a decent Discovery sized set of ramps? I was looking at the machine mart ones: http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/search/filter/051711025/page/1 but I suspect they may be too short/narrow.
  6. Guess I'll be paying YRM a visit next time I get paid...
  7. BUGGER! But one can live in hope, even if it is just for a short while.......
  8. Nahhh, I bought one like that knowing what it was like! Wife reckons all I need are the kinky boots, whip and a years subscription to the local S&M club! Trouble is I'm beginning to think she may just have a valid point....
  9. Sorry but 1980's Alfas and Lancias win hands down, only cars to leave the factory with terminal structural rot built in.
  10. The bloody disco has just disgraced itself by developing an oil leak that puts the Exxon Valdiz to shame. Have oil p*ssing out of the bellhousing drain hole, somebody please tell me that it ain't the rear crank oil-seal - the thought of pulling the engine to cahnge a £30 seal really isn't appealing...... It is engine oil as opposed to gearbox, but if push comes to shove and I have to pull the engine I may as well do the gearbox , transfer box oil seals and the clutch at the same time, never bloody rains but pours.
  11. Just found invoices and I bought all the same bits, with the exception that I bought a generic felt from Woolies trim as it was pennies! There is a topic on the forum which gives the Woolies felt no. Have fun....
  12. I've tried for bloody weeks to find that bit! Nobody seems to make it. I wa stold that it was a "failrly simple bit " of bent sheet!!!!! If you do locate someone who makes it......
  13. Having just done the same job, your list looks about right. As it is stupid o clock in the morning, I will check what I bought and get back to you later today. I will give you one word of advice, and that is use pplenty washing up liquid to lubricate the window seal (fixed section) where it goes into the frame DO NOT put any where it goes around the outside egde of the glass tho, otherwise it's like trying to wrestle a greasy p*ssed off porcine. You may also find that an extra pair of hands comes in usefull for re-assembly, along with a small ratchet strap for GENTLY pulling the two halves of the frame together. Warming up the rubber bits helps too... All in all the job is fiddly and a real PITA. I also found that the felt bits take a long while to mould themselves to the correct shape - leave the sliding window bit shut for a goodly while and rather than use silicone based waterproofing on the felt, nip down to the local pharmacy and buy some insecticide free headlice fluid (can't remember if the brand I used was Nitty Gritty or Headrin) as it is a concentrated suspension of silicone in an evaporative non-toxic solvent....

    Body Kit

Has anyone got the D1 body kit (STC7662) lying around that they no longer want?
  15. I work as an freelance freshwater ecologist, so if I can be of help, yell. One of the things that will be worth looking at are the effects of disturbance on biodiversity. Disturbance is not necessarily a bad thing for some species (I speak mainly of the invertebrates and plants with which I am addicted to) as it tends to create "new" meso-habitats, which in some cases can actually increase short term diversity as pioneer species take advantage of the habitat. also tracks and ruts are, in themselves, a very valuable temporary habitat (ephemeral habitats are the most neglected wildlife habitats in the UK), look at the population of Fairy shrimps that thrive in the ruts on Salisbury plain as an example.
  16. I had very similar problems a few years ago, ended up changing the ignition switch module (sits behind the ignition key) , plugs, leads, rotor arm, dizzy cap and amplifier module before I cured it. Never did get to the bottom of just what was causing it. BUT, using a genuine LUCAS rotor arm did slow down the failure rate for a time.
  17. Been there, done that, read the book, got the tee shirt and interviewed the author. Stick with cast manifolds. No, that stuff is just vicious and vindictive , mind you would be nice to wrap a politician or two in it, but I digress.
  18. yes, BUT, most insurers see them as a MODIFICATION, then watch your premium rocket, ask me how I know this, bottom line appears to be that insurers are a bunch of thieves.
  19. Got the same problem! Bought a vehicle for the engine and, well, thing kinda spiralled after that, SWMBO is now firmly of the impression that I have a thing for rusty, semi functional Landrover products... Oh and my credit card gets the collwobbles every time I go past a Landrover spares place...
  20. Be very wary of cheap Mig welders (ask me how I worked that out...) I have a couple in the garage which were not exactly cheap, but are as much use as an ahstray on a motorbike. The wire feed mechanisms are made out of plastic, which gets warm and deforms (got a totally useless SIP 150) and cost nearly as much as a new "cheap" Mig to replace. The result is that your confidence gets screwed, not thro lack of ability, rather thro a POS welder. As for helmets etc, to be honest, Machine Mart are as good as most places, plus you can look before you buy, the Bay of E is full of carp kit that you can't touch till it arrives. Do not skimp on a decent Helmet! and gauntlets - welding flash is bloody unpleasant.
  21. Well that is six hourd of my life I'll never get back - wretched little spring now replaced and centarl locking functioning , just got to do the other 4 springs next...... Thanks folks, suppose (given the cost of a new actuator) changing just the springs is the cheap option.
  22. Central locking is having a bit of a hissy fit on the rear door. I have a bit of a question regarding the solenoid, when you lock the doors, the plunger in the solenoid goes up, but does not stay up, that is it falls back ibto the body of the solenoid under gravity. Is this correct or is the solenoid goosed, vehicle is 1992 200tdi Cheers children
  23. the family hack (200Tdi Disco 1) will need new shocks and springs sooner rather than later. Considering the Terrafirma light load kit: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DEFENDER-90-DISCOVERY-1-RANGEROVER-CLASSIC-SUSPENSION-KIT-/120775325645?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c1ec537cd Anyone had any experiences (good or bad) of this kit?
