  1. Ally Just trying easy things with parts to hand. Unfortunately the looms on the other two disco's have more oil that the one in the car so there is little point in switching that. Am thining I could replace the wiring from the injector loom to the ecu.
  2. Locked and Loaded lol That rules out the ECU and the BCU as both now switched and still just ticking over. That leaved the injectors and the engine wiring loom.
  3. I have a spare ECU and BCU so will try that next in leu of the diagnostics. Gives me something to do before Monday.
  4. John Thanks for the reply. Have sprayed contact cleaner in huge amounts everywhere with no change. Tried to change the throttle pot on Sunday but that made no difference so we are back to the loom or the injectors. Getting it put on a computer on Monday.
  5. The parts canon is well and truely loaded I have two full ES's for spares so there are no shortage of certain items. Think it is going into a garage to get it sorted I know it will be something obvious once it is on the computer.
  6. Ally where is the throttle pot? I have a couple of spare disco's so it will be very easy to switch them over.
  7. Mike Yes the AA plugged it in and the throttle response was on the button.
  8. It started off with misfire and the throttle dropping off to tick over. But restarting cured it. It got progressively worst to the point is would only tick over. The AA were called and there was oil in the red ECU plug which he cleaned out with contact cleaner. That seemed to cure it and I got home 30 miles with only one splutter. The next day the car would only rev to 1800 RPM so I ordered and new loom for the injectors. After that was fitted it would only tick over and that is where we are today.
  9. Changed my mind with this I think what I need to do is get the injectors tested.
  10. Great thanks how do you sync the BCU?
  11. If I am changing the ECU on a TD5, specifically the Discovery 2, what other than the ECU and the key remote do I need to change over?
  12. The misfiring returned this morning so I took the rocker cover off and cleaned the injector connections as best I could this allowed me to reve the engine up to 1800 RPM enough to do 40mph. Have ordered the new wiring harness today which I hope cures the problem. I have bought WD40 electrical cleaner so I will be using it in vast quantities to clean all the plugs.
  13. Ok so I have always been aware of the wiring on the TD5's leaking oil down the cabling. I have been experiencing a misfire and cutting out for a few days and had it booked in to get it looked at when it finally came to a halt. The engine would fire and run but as soon as any revs were put on the engine the engine management light would go on.Basically limpped into town in low box and idle. The AA man was stumped but he read the fault codes ad there were many of them. I the remembered a conversatio with my LR Technicia fried ad decided to lift out the ECU. The ECU ad conections looked fie but I decided to unplug the cables to have a look and foud a nice blob of oil in the red plug. AA man used solvet cleaner and that cured the problem. Very interesting and neither he or I could beleive the difference. Now does anybody know the part number for the replacement wiring?
  14. Any idea what it is connected to on Japanese vehicles? Makes me wonder if one of the cars was a Japanese import.
  15. I took a trailer up to Skye from Ayr on Monday to collect a car from my brother. The traffic in either direction was fairly light and yes it was a wonderful drive and I thouroughly enjoyed the drive in my Disco. As said above take the time and enjoy the view there is lots to see. I took the road down through Glen Coe but the route through Oban is well worth taking as I did that a few years ago when my Wife, (Then girlfriend) wanted to see Loch Ness.
  16. The wires are orange and Brown with a lilac stripe. Fuel temp would make sense as it is next to the heat exchanger
  17. One is orange the other is brown with a violet or very light purple stripe.
  18. I have posted this on the Discovery Forum but it equally applies to the Defender so hopefully someone can assist me. Can anyone tell me where the green plug at the very bottom of the picture goes. I have just transplanted the engine from my 1999 TD5 into my 2001 TD5 after I blew the gearbox. I suspect it is a sensor because the car keeps going into limp mode. The plug is on the offside and it is in the loom that connects with the vacuum sensor if that makes sense.
  19. My view is that it should follow the profile of the chassis. I.e. the chassis tilts up so should the cross member. As you look at your profile shot left hand side to the front.

  21. I have been taking engines out of my two Discos today basically to make one good one out of the two. On both cars the top off side gearbox bolt was a real pain to crack. The vehicle that I was scraping I ended up having to remove the gearbox to get at the bolt. On my good one I tried to lift the engine off the mounts and lower the gearbox to give me better access but that didn't work. I finally opted to put a short ratchet on it and use a fork lift with a strap round the ratched to shif the bold even that took a great effort to shift it. Once it cracked it was straight forward. Is there a knack or a spacial tool for this bolt? It seemed almost impossible to get off. I know it hasn't been off for at least 5 years (this is the length of time I have owned it)
  22. Well the bad news is that my latest discovery has blown it's gearbox. Last night I needed to be recovered back to the workshop to collect my Mini. further bad news was when I went under it in the pit to see if I could see anything I discovered terminal rot on the chassis. I remember trying to weld my other Disco up and called it quits when I was trying to find solid metal to weld to. The good news is I now have an engine block for my other Disco and many other little bits and peices that I need to get her up to scratch. Every cloud and all that.
  23. Sounds like an interesting project.
  24. I could only confirm a 80mm stroke. And that was consistently over 3 tries. Always pleased to help but unfortunately not the solution Filip was looking for. It was a very nice looking car though and if I was looking for a P38 certainly would be tempted.
