  1. BM He has redirected the exhaust via the front of the car in chrome. What a waste of a FL
  2. Have towed a 1.5 tonne twin axle with a TD4 Auto fine over a three year period. A little under powered at higher speeds but no problem towning. Looking forward to trying out the FL2 next year the extra power should eat the caravan.
  3. Ah my favourite subject "Rules" I enjoy a good case of car and mouse with the legalities and have spent many years "getting away" with minor traffic offences ie parking and the occasional speeding. The law is very complex and there are all sorts of law which impact on all sorts of laws. Whilst not being legally qualified I have represented myself in court and won. On speaking with a client of mine who was a solicitor he advised that the signs are critical and if not placed correctly then then the law cannot be applied. If the 30 sign for example is not at 90 degrees to the road it does not exist. If yellow lines do not have end stops then they are not enforceable. When looking for a place to park I will always seek out a line that does not have an end stop or has a break in it and before leaving my car I use my phone to take a photo. I have never had to use it yet but would always write first sooner than pay the fine. Always remember "the law is for the adherence of fools and the guidance of wise men" better £30 in my pocket than the coffers of the govenment. Finally not qualified to offer legal advice so this is not advice just the way I deal with things
  4. Interesting views but I think everyone including th Editor in cheif is in full agreement that this type of advertising is not for Landrover Magazines. Must admit I was surprised and disappointed to see it.
  5. We have owned a V6 ES on a 53 plate, an TD4 HSE Auto on an 05 plate and a TD4 HSE Auto on an 57 ignoring the current model the V6 had plenty of power but was sore on fuel, the TD4 went well for 54000 miles over a 2.5 year period an felt this was the better of the two. We had the usual head Gasket problem which required a replacement engine so I would feel happier steering clear of all petrol models especially if I am buy for someone else.
  6. Have just received this Months LRO and on Page 241 there is a full page advert that can only be discribed as being at home in the Daily Sport. I don't consider that I am a prude in any form but do not feel that this is appropriate in a Landrover Magazine just would like to canvas opinion am I right or am I just getting to be an old over protective parent?
  7. I perfer to work on the beleif that rules are for the adherence of fools and the guidance of wise men!! My last speeding charge was dropped by the prosecution because I have a communication disorder and I represented myself in court asking for "full access" took a while but it was very interesting . The only reason I got off was by sticking to the letter of all the laws.
  8. Welcome to the club. It looks good well done.
  9. Steve Hi and welcome Sorry I don't know much about the early models as I always have Rangies up until I bought a 53 Plate V6 for my wife. Snce then have has an 05 Plate TD4 and a 57 plate TD4. Having had the head gasket problem with the V6 I would avoid at all costs the petrol engine models. I beleive that as with the MGB's there is a simple fix in terms of the head gasket type but I don't know what it is and am not getting my hands dirty at the moment fixing cars so am unlikely to find out. Landrovering is good fun stick at it and don't buy a Ford. You will get alot of help and sound advice here however maybe not from me.
  10. Dennis Before my TD4 my wife had the V6 what problems did you have? Headgasket probs? Ours needed a new engine after 26k. three months after we go it. The new pertol engines are tried and tested from the Ford stable I beleive so there should not be the same issues as the old K series engines. That said I would not entertain the petrol prices will drop like stones.
  11. Had a 2005 MY TD4 HSE which was due for replacement in April next year. Had already started looking in July and really wanted a New Disco but could not afford what I wanted. Upshot was I had a minor problem with my car and Landrover Assistance gave me a Freelander 2 TD4 Manual HSE for three days. Within 12hrs of collecting the car I was smitten and telephoneing the dealers. That was a Monday at the end of July. By the end of that week I had placed an order for an Auto. My old FL was an Auto and I could have had a Manual much quicker but my enduring memory of the manual was the weight of the clutch which remined me of my classic Range Rovers. Took delivery last week of a FL2 HSE TD4 Auto. have just done 500 miles in a week (normal for me) and I am absolutely smitten all over again it is a lovely vehicle. After placing my order I blew the diff on my old car, (whilst awaiting delivery of the FL2) this time LR Assist gave me a Disco HSE. Nice car but I prefer the FL2 better finished and more modern in feel the Disco needs updated and the "toys" improved. I would certainly go for the Auto over the Manual, go for the Diesel over the Petrol the performance is exceptional for a diesel and is better that the Petrol if you look at the preformance figures. On my courtest car I was driving at 110mph without realising and have to be careful in the new car even though it is only a week old. You are welcome here even with an old Defender although some of us have old Range Rovers too B) B)
  12. Sorry I am dyslexic so mispell things all the time. KO
  13. gyorgy The easiest way to test the motor is to connect it straight to a 12v supply If the motor works from the supply directly you know it is the switch and vice versa.
  14. WOW that is heavy going from what I can work out someone has produced perpetual motion.......Hmmmmm
  15. Thanks I have a large format printer in the office I wonder if I could print it out Full Scale? An if I coulour it black it will be in better nick than my CSK
  16. Paul new private plate "Landrover Owner S Ash" sad isn't it bought without the other halfs knowlegde.
  17. Bling Result the first thing the salesman said was sorry. I now have the car below and I am now just starting to relax. I though buying a new car was supposed to be a pleasurable experience this has just been horrible but the end result was worth it. Don't know who sorted it the Solicitor or Landrover Customer Services but I am greatful to both.
  18. Steve I think part of the problem is the colour. Rimmini Red is not popular with the dealers therefore they do not order them en-mass. Would agree in part about the milage but the problem I have had with my current car is the milage I was contracted to 12000 miles and have done 22000. The GFV should be £13k so will be interested to see what happens when I go to the dealer this afternoon.
  19. Have been waiting for nearly 3 months for the delivery of my Freelander2. The car was supposed to be with the dealer a month ago and with 5 days to go I received a call from the salesman, John, to say that the computer was showing delivery had been delayed by two weeks. I was livid and phoned customer services who told me the build date as the 5th October and delivery to Delaer as 16th October. At this point the dealer pacified me by offering a full tank of fuel and mud flaps (which I had forgotten at the time of ordering. As you can see it has not been a good starty for the dealer so far. As delivery approached I phoned the dealer on Monday afternoon to check the car had been delivered to him. Result they have the car I will take delivery on Thursday. As I am away for a few days I told him I would pick the car up on Saturday, Today. On Thursday while in Legoland with my family I get a call from the salesman. He is just checking his figures so that the paperwork is in order for Saturday. He then phones me back and states that the deal that I accepted and paid a deposit for is no longer possible they have calculated the finance on 12000 miles per annum and not the 21000 that we discussed and that to change the figures it is going to cost me an extra £50 per month. I tell him that I will need to phone him back At this point I am absolutely livid. I phone my wifes cousin who is our solicitor to conmfirm that the deal must stand and it must but proving it could be a problem as nothing at this stage is documented. (this is a contract under Scots law where a verbal contract stands) I hone the dealer back stating that I will check my records but will not get back to him until Saturday as I am away on Holiday. Then phone my solicitor to get him to phone and apply pressure. On Friday I phone LR Customer Services to complain about the dealer they say that they will phone me back by lunch time. At lunch time I receive a call from mthe salesman who says that they have sorted it and I can collect my car on Saturday as arranged. As you can imagine I am very angry about this. I will be picking my car up in about 2 hours having taken off (in anger) the dog guards and the tow bar (I was going to leave these on cos I could not be bothered with the hastle). Will keep you posted but beware of main dealers and horray for Landrover Customer Services who will certainly be getting a letter of thanks.
  20. Shanckleton If you are putting new doors on why are you bothering with old hinges. I bought patent door hinges for my CSK but they were garbage after 3 years I needed to replace one because it seized. When I get round to restoring the CSK hopefully next year I will replace all hinges while OEM parts.
  21. Kaz I fitted the Dog Gaurd a couple of years ago to the rearmost window. The dog guards has 2 legs that should go throgh the trim these legs sit into a square box section with a threaded hole on the side to screw in a bolt to secure the guard. The square box section has a flat plate to fix to back of door. If I can help further please let me know.
  22. I would say taht the vehicle was not fit for purpose therefore you are entitled for a full refund. The Road Tax issue is not strictly correct I would have thought you would only be liable for the Road Tax that you used i.e. the Road Tax for the duration you had the vehicle therefore if you had the car for 1 month then the amount owed would be 1/6th of £112.50 Check with trading standards. We had a similar problem with a 53 plate ES from our main stealer with 24k on the clock needed a new engine. At the time when they sorted it it was not worth our while getting our money back but we traded it in 3 months later against a New HSE and got all our money back.
  23. I have a sneecky suspision that the hinge pins are all solid. I have brocken a few range rovers in the past and the quickest method for removing the doors was to use an angle grinded straight through the door hinge. Also if memory serves the hinge pin has ribs on it which help lock into the hinge.
  24. For talking through his backside as per usual for a politician All this talk about Global Warming is complete nonsense. As I have said before the planet is a living organism in its own right. The planet has been heating up and cooling down since time began. Egypt was once a green and lush land. Look at it now, the South Pole once had trees and lakes yet now Russian scientists are drilling through :angry:the miles of ice to see what is at the bottom. We are been taxed off the planet for something we are not doing has the world gone mad
  25. Perhaps something like a Series 1 Landrover B) Geoff The hard facts are there. The transportation and processing of the Nickel, that is a hard fact which is not disputed. I am just so annoyed about all the tree huggers whose bull is being lapped up like a cat with milk. This planet we are on is a living organism and it lives and breathes in its own right. It gives off CO2 and sucks in CO2 as part of a natural process the next thing we will be told is that we need stop breathing out. Just think how much carbon that would cut!! Global Warming PAH this is just part of a natural cycle and in 20 to 30 years time schools will be indoctrinating our Grankids with stories of Global Cooling and how we must put what little heating equipment we have left to use heating the outside air.
