  1. LR Nut The paperwork and discussion I had with the first owner of mine was a list price of £31000 but he purchased it for £26,000. That is off the top of my head I could dig out the paperwork if you are looking for a more accurate figure.
  2. Here's my story on the use of Slick 50. However I have not used it since but think it is a good thing. About 18 years ago I had an Opel Kadett 1.2 which I used Slick 50 in. One evening the timing chain broke which when I repaired I did not notice that the chain had punctured the timing chain cover. I took the car from Lanarkshire in Scotland to the Wirral some 200 miles most of the time dripping oil and constantly topping up to keep going. My brother lives on the Wirral and over the course of a week tried several times to fix the oil leak but only made it worse. After spending the weekend fishing and getting back to his house about 7pm with a drive home to Scotland. I proceeded to drive the car, very fast, home again stopping to top off regularly however every time I slowed the engine the oil light blinked furiously. I kept going to the point that I gave up topping up the oil and decided that if I didn't make it home the AA would transport the car for me. The end result was that the car kept going for about a week without any oil and eventually needed a new engine. I have to admit that I was very impressed and can only attribute the engines continued operation to the Slick 50 that I had in the engine.
  3. On my third freelander Fist one a V6 blew head gasket and needed new engine. Second a TD4 Auto did 55K in 2.5 years from new and traded in for a FL2 Auto both great machines and no complaints.
  4. Paul There are two ways on a classic you can do it, safely one is the correct way the other is the easy way. First the easy way:- take a very sharp knife and insert the blade between the glass and the window rubber and drag it around the rubber until the face is removed the glass will pop out easily with someone on the inside gently pushing with their feet in the middle of the screen. OR The propery way:- when you look at the face of the rubber glazing strip there is an insert in the middle if you gently push a (small)screw drive between the rubber and the under you should be able to prize out the insert. Take the insert out all the way around the screen. Now as before with someone inside the glass should be gently pushed out by your feet exerted on the middle of the screen. Be aware that you may need to use some force and because this is glass you are working with there is a fine line between the required force and breaking the glass so be extremely careful.
  5. My CSK and my3.9 Vogue had an overheating problems. This turned out to be the cylinder liners dropping which unfortunately a common problem. If you are a competent mechanic as Geoff says it is not a problem. I used ceramic block sealer which cured the CSK but never got round to the Vogue. If you buy the car be prepared for the cost of a new engine block and figure that into the cost of the vehicle that way you should be OK as long as you take on board any other faults the car may have.

  7. Is there not a height adjustement on the seat? I know there is on the FL2.
  8. Rocky I take it you are asking about the latest Freelander? I have an 57 plate with 15k on it which I bought new last year. first three months were a nightmare but once the bugs were out it has been perfect and very nice to drive.
  9. Had a V6 and yes we had the head gasket problem with only 26k on the car. We bought the V6 to avoid the H G problem. Replaed it with a TD4 Auto after 9 months which I ran for 2.5 years from new with no problems. My 2p's worth gho for a diesel. If hell bent on a petrol get properly checked before purchase. V6 was fun and fast but only got 15mpg on a good day. Better to get a V8 Range Rover
  10. Bearer of bad news I'M afraid. We bought an 52 plate V6 ES auto five years ago thinking that the head problems were only on the 1.8's. The car was two years old with 23000 miles on the clock. After 3 months the problems started with overheating and after three visits to the dealer because of overheating they eventually conceeeded the head gaskets were gone. We had a new engine installed under warranty. We owned the car for nine months, three of which were in the dealer being repaired. We traded it in for a TD4
  11. Thanks for the input guys. Was aware of the liner problem but un phased by it, my CSK had the same fault and I fixed it with cermic block sealer and it has been fine ever since. Also aware of air suspension but unaware of most other issues.
  12. Been thinking about a new toy and getting a 4.6 HSE with a Gas Conversion. Have extensive knowledge of Classics but know naff all about the P38 what should I be looking for and what should I be avoiding?
  13. Buffy Would agree that it depends on driing stlye but my wife drove it most of the time and she is not what I would call a fast driver We only had the car for 4000 miles as it spent so much time in the garage. The V6's are well spec'ed but personally I would forget them.
  14. My Local dealer has a Range Rover Sport drive off the ramps while trying to test the hand brake unfortumately it landed in the lap of the mechanic who was working on it at the time. Mechanic survived incident but did not hear anything further.
  15. We had a V6 for 9 months 3 of which were with the dealer because it needed a new engine because of head gasket failure. only had 26k on the clock when it failed. We replaced it with a TD4 Auto HSE which was fabulour and that was repalced last year with a FL2 HSE which is also Fabulour. V6 we got 17MPG only slightly better than my Classic Range Rover.
  16. Bought one in October after having one as a loan car. The auto is faster than the manual if you check the figures. It is really nice better than the old model, which I had before. Mine is the HSE with all the toys. Really wanted a Disco 3 but having both as loan cars within weeks I found the FL2 went better, was more confortable and better speced the only advantage for the D3 as far as I was concerned was 7 seats/more space and bigger towing capacity.
  17. Have had Tom Tom Naigator 5 on my mobile and currently have co-pilot. Hae tried the landrover version in the old model freelander (voice only) and the one in the latest Freelander 2. Tom Tom and Freelander two are hard to compair of all tried. Preference probably would be Tom Tom installed on my phone.
  18. ve been told they go around 50k. I lost the one on my TD4 at 54k in spectacular fashion fortunately repaired under warranty.
  19. V6 is nice if you can afford the petrol but having had the usual head gasket problem on one after owning the car for 3 months I would steer clear. Ours was under warranty so we got a full new engine but that was not the point it took 3 month to sort and we finally got rid of it after another 3 months for a TD4.
  20. Nowt wrong with Freelanders. I am talking generally not specifically as my own has been with the dealer for the last week There are more and more freelanders on the road, Particularly as the Freelander is the most popular 4x4xfar to stael a phrase.
  21. Hi have dogs and have done shows. We installed the Landrover guards to the back of our car and they worked a treat. We noticed that our dogs could get cold with the door fully open and the landrover items gave a little more flexibility and more secutity. Still have both guards and fitting kits if required.
  22. Hi welcome Enjoy the car they are good fun despite what the others on this forum might say. Your car should be quite capable off road. Mine was only lacked ground clearance but on the whole as good as my classic though I never set any real challenges for it.
  23. Blippie He's bought a Landrover so it is a promise Potshot Welcome to the club and happy Landrovering.
  24. Steve Don't knock the standard Frellander. I had my 05 plate FL offroad and alledgedly had it airbourne. The only problem that I encountered was the ride height other than that went most places that the Range Rovers went.
  25. Steve Sorry to be a bore but you should not go off road by yourself. If you roll in the middle of nowhere you could be seriously injured and no be in a position to get help.
