  1. BBC The ceramic sealer that I used on the CSK was 5 years and 10,000 miles ago and came recommended from a very respective source. The foirst time I used it it did not work properly but it can be used as many times as necessary to ensure a seal. I would swear by it after the result I had but I would recommend a coolant flush before use to get all the cr** out.
  2. BBC Surely if you strip back to the bare block the mounting will be the same as the casting never changed. The difference between the SD1 and the RR was related to bolt on components line timing covers, alternator brakets etc.
  3. Sorry if I am resurecting something that may have been discussed before but I have been away for a while ................. a Long Long while There was an article by Simon Hodder, I think, in the back of LRE a month or so ago about the polution put out by motor vehicles. The full article on which his is based can be found here: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...and+environment Now despite the fact I am currently involved in developing a new building product that will revoutionise the thermal performance of buildings I do not subscribe to the global warming argument. This article provides further evidence of what I have beleived for a considerable time that we are being fed B**l S**t in order to buy greener products. Alister Darling has just anounced his budget which obviously is going to attack us as Landrover enthusiasts but when are these idiots going to realise we have to consider the whole life costs and not the short term effects. OOOOH it makes my blood boil
  4. Had the same problem on one Range Rover I had for years. The temp did rise frequently more so towards the end of its life but I recon the block had gone pourous. I could never find where it went either I have a nice cheep solution for the pourous block which has proved to work on my CSK for the last 10K. Let me know if I can help
  5. Nick I would think that you will retain all the injection and exhaust manifolds from your current car together with the alternator and air con if relevant. It should therefore be a simple case of unbolting one and bolting the new one in its place. Have you done an engine swap before? That is all you should be doing here the fact that one is either a 3.5 or a 3.9 and the new one is a 4.6 should be irrelevant beacuae they are both Range Rover V8. I once put a Rover SD1 V8 engine in a RR that required changes to the bracketry and the water pump but would not think that will be the case here.
  6. Hugo There should be a counterbalance on the front diff on all Autos is that in place? The counterbalance is a solid metal wheel about 100mm across
  7. The CSK is nice. Ever since I had my TD4 I have only moved it out of the way to get my Caravan in and out. One of these days I will finish the new garage, only been building it for 6 years, and I can get the car under cover. I have started to collect the bits I need to put it right so once the next big deal goes down (for the next big deal read first big deal) I will get someone to restore it properly back to its former glory. Have seen a photo of a CSK pickup in the classifieds of one of the mags never seen a bobtail. It is horrendous that people feel the need to reduce the numbers however it means that there are fewer origional vehicles around and they are still making reasonable money. In the state mine is in I recon it to be worth in the region of £3k with road worthy ones fetching £5k which for a car that was built in 1990 is quite good. TDV6 is nice particularly the HSE but as I stated on the Freelander forum I think Landrover is going to have to review the design and specification sooner rather than later because the Freelander 2 in my view is a better vehicle.
  8. Well the Business means I can have new cars rather than 13 year old Rangies. Must admit it is nice to have a vehilce that I don't have to worry about other than the usual Tax Insurance and servicing although I must get my CSK back on the road it is rotting away in my driveway. Met up with him in August he was home breifly on leave. It was the day I blew my diff and phoned another freind of ours to say that I had the Disco 2 on hire and he told me he was in Glasgow. Long and short was I met up with him had a coffee and took him to Ayr 40 miles away. Gave me a good excuse to drive the Disco not that I needed one was going to spend the day driving it anyway.
  9. BM It is a new model. There will always be teething problems after the initial launch it just depends how serious the faults are. I will let you know after I get mine and have had it a while.
  10. Guess I have been away for a while there are a lot of new faces round here
  11. TJ There is a lot of truth in what you say but I recon they are trying to keep some continuity with the heritage.
  12. Deano No, off work ill and got a little time to catch up with old freinds. I do try and look in from time to time but now being the boss time is at a premium.
  13. BM I need a car to go. I am hard on cars and found Landrovers stand up to the abuse. Driving 22000 miles a year I need a car that is reliable and my TD4 HSe has only had one problem that caused any concern and that was a blown diff. The FL2 must be selling well I have had an order placed for nearly two and a half months and still no sign. Even thought about cancelling the order but the dealer that I bought my current Freelander from (too dear for the replacement) said I had a really good deal and he would not be in a position to get even close. I had a test drive not long after the launch. It is one thing to have a salesman beside you when you take a test drive and another entirely when you get it on your own. The new car is chalk and cheese compared to the old model and puts the new disco in the shade. To beat the new disco completely add air suspension ( and consequently low range) and 2 extra seats in the boot and you make the disco obsolete apart from the towing capacity and even then I tow a twin axle caravan which weighs in at 1.5 tonnes. The current freelander looses power at the 60mph mark which is ok but I beleive the new TD4 has 50BHP more so I will be interested to see how it performs.
  14. Would agree but for me it is a company car and I get to choose cos I own the company
  15. Deano Have a TD4 HSE which had to go the the dealer for a minor repair. Landrover assist gave me a Freelander TD4 HSE for a courtest car. Within 1/2 a day of driving I was phoning the dealers for a price and within 5 days I had a deal and the order place. That was the end of July and I am still waiting althought I do expect delivery next week. Since then I have had a Disco 3 HSE as a courtesy car when I blew my diff. I really wanted the Disco 3 but cannot afford it at this stage however having driven the FL2 previously I would say that Landrover need to look at the spec of the Disco the FL2 is much much better in my view.
  16. The old freelander has rear parking sensors which are not affected by the towbar only annoyance is reversing with the trailer. Would anticipate the Freelander 2 would be the same am due to get mine next week and the dealer is putting on a Fixed height non removable towbar
  17. My wife had a V6 for 9 months of which 3 months was spent with the dealer awaiting on a new engine due to Head Gasket Failure. As far as I have determioned V6's had the same problems as the 1.8's but it was not as well publisised as there was not as many on the road. Have got an TD4 HSE Auto which I have had since new. It has covered 53500 miles in two and a half years, mostly hard and fast (I like landies because they stand up to abuse) and the only problem I have had is a seized rear diff which blew in spectacular fashion on the M8 in August this year. I have been waiting since the end of July for a Freelander 2 HSe which I am told will be ready next week. After the V6 the the TD4 was the last chance but it proved it's worth.
  18. er in doors had a V6 F/L until april when I tradedit in for a TD4 and she went back to her Polo. It goes in for its first service on Monday it has been great. The V6 was a pig and needed a new engine after 26k.
  19. Niall is that an avatar?.......I thought it was a photo sorry.
  20. Just remember Niall when you are home there is a 3.9 engine and a ZF gearbox waiting for you as well as a full set of D2 alloys. When are you home anyway? and do you need a car? cos my CSK needs a good run!
  21. Why not pole the members to get a balanced view. Personally I don't care where we live so long as all the familiar faces are about and the forum is easy for me to read (I am Dyslexic) but for goodness sake lets get it sorted and move on. I do agree about the polotics though
  22. There does seen to be a lot of confusion even within the title of LRE front page. "We regret to announce the closure of ......in formation is now available at Land Rover Addict..... We strongly recommend Land Rover Chronicals...........and by the way we are open for business under a new regime. Total confusion No change there then
  23. Sorry Tom I didn't quite get that could you speak a little louder!! Only joking but if you type in capitals this is taken to be shouting so please use upper and lower case or all lower case to avoid the potential for offending others. As for the problem I would guess that your is a P38 sorry I cannot help I am still driving Classic Range Rovers
  24. There you go Steve young drivers. You must remember being young once or have you always been old
  25. Disagree Rangies are nice have been driving one for eight years, mot the same one though. Unfortunately couldn't afford the new disco at the time of replacement so went for a Freebie but I still have a very nice rangie.
