  1. Get a D2. I have driven lots of both and have lots of experience of what goes wrong with both and I still have my D2 with no plans to change for a number of very good reasons which can be indirectly summed up in one short sentence: the D3 is lovely when it all works. Jules - £108 per litre - ouch
  2. IMHO if you want to improve the ride dump the 18s and get a set of 16" alloys but that's just my 2p. Hopefully somebody who has fiddled with their D2 suspension will be able to answer the other points - mine is still standard and running on 255/70R16 BFG AT's the ride is better than any other D2 I have ever been in.
  3. Forget hammerite as it is junk - I'd just treat with something like Kurust if required and then some aerosol or brush on satin black (nothing too shiny) as from what I have seen most people's attempts to spray it "properly" seem to fall off after a few months...
  4. We deal a lot with BM at work and always get the OEM branded parts i.e. Wipac/Lucas/Coopers/Lockheed etc etc best combination of decent quality and decent price IMHO.
  5. At our Remembrance Sunday service a guy called Gus Hales who was here in 82 stood up and recited this, he wasn't invited to and he wasn't supposed to be on the programme, he just did it, and I thought it was well worth repeating - it is possibly the most moving thing I have heard in a remembrance ceremony. Every year on Remembrance Sunday I sit in the corner of the British Legion Bar, Dressed in blazer, shirt, Regimental tie And polished shoes, with my head held high. But deep in my mind, where nobody goes, I see a wooden cross where the wind of victory blows. “Three Cheers for Victory,” I hear the politicians say. But you never asked me about my victory. And, if they did, I would have explained it this way: It isn’t your flags or emblems of war, Or your marching of troops past the Palace’s door. It isn’t Mrs. Thatcher on the balcony high, Reaffirming her pledge to serve or die. But it’s the look and the pain on a teenager’s face As he dies for his country, In a far off place. It’s the guns and the shells and the Phosphorus grenades And the dead and the wounded in freshly cut graves Or the grieving wife or the fatherless child Whose young, tender life will be forever defiled. Or the alcoholic soldier with a shattered mind Who takes the suicide option for some peace to find. Well, that’s my victory but no one knows For its deep in my mind where nobody goes.
  6. Nope - the early and late propshafts are interchangeable - in fact the genuine part for the old one is now superceded to the new one.
  7. I'd fit Grabber AT2s for that sort of use.
  8. The rear is the same as the small type UJ on 300Tdi's 1994-98, p/no RTC3458 I think. God only knows why they made the front one bigger and not the rear one, which takes more of the strain in many cases...
  9. Chris, Have you thought about one of the Bikini mounts like Bowyer sells? They fit the EP9, are cheap and retain the standard bumper underneath. I have something similar that my Milemarker is fitted to, it offers much better approach angle than most "normal" winch bumpers and it is a lot lighter on the front end too. I was a bit concerned about its strength but so far it is about the only thing the MM hasn't bent so it can't be too bad
  10. best way to check it is what you have already done - anything over 14V and it is charging OK.
  11. I've always found changing the blade sorts it out but you've tried that Maybe the spring in the arm is weak as you suggest. Also often worth trying hosing the screen and the blade with traffic film remover and giving it a scrub with a kitchen scourer so it is all really clean.
  12. Welcome If it is still on any of the original suspension you will notice a massive improvement if you change all of it i.e. springs, dampers and bushes.
  13. front or rear Chris? not sure of the answer but the front ones are bigger UJ's on newer vehicles... the rears are the same as 300Tdi vehicles.
  14. Yes they did, my 96 V8 had tweeters in it
  15. We have some of our own veterans here this year for the 25th so it is even more significant than usual around these parts. For The Fallen With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children, England mourns for her dead across the sea. Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit, Fallen in the cause of the free. Solemn the drums thrill; Death august and royal Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres, There is music in the midst of desolation And a glory that shines upon our tears. They went with songs to the battle, they were young, Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted; They fell with their faces to the foe. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. They mingle not with their laughing comrades again; They sit no more at familiar tables of home; They have no lot in our labour of the day-time; They sleep beyond England's foam. But where our desires are and our hopes profound, Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight, To the innermost heart of their own land they are known As the stars are known to the Night; As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust, Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain; As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness, To the end, to the end, they remain. www.sama82.org
  16. Ahhh the joys of punctuation You have almost certainly tripped the crash sensor, or it is faulty. It disables the central locking (after opening all doors) and makes the indicators flash. IIRC it is in the engine bay somewhere, check in your handbook but I think it is on the bulkhead to the left side of the engine. Press the top down to reset, or maybe it is a dud. Often trips if you hit a massive pothole or a cattle grid or something, a common problem here.
  17. The Discovery 2 has them fitted there as standard but I don't know if you can fit them on a D1, if that is what yours is.
  18. There are also anti squeak belts PQS000030 for the older type and PQS000040 for the later type, the second one covers all 300Tdi up to the end of production in 2006.
  19. Welcome Where is the middle of the world then?
  20. Release bearing (grumble), the springs in the friction plate (rattle) or more likely both would be my guess.
  21. I'm guessing yours has some sort of park interlock where you have to put your foot on the brake to take it out of park in which case yes the park switch is 95% likely to be the culprit. Can test with a multimeter it isn't hard to get out. Not sure about indicators though - probably a different fault I think.
