  1. Thank somewhere towards the 8.8 strength seems likely then .... ultimate strength isn't the issue but they have to be marine stainless anyway due to being low down on the transom of a boat in salt water - anything else won't last 5 minutes - just wondered how strong they would be. The transom would probably let go first
  2. Has anybody got actual measurements of the 265/75R16 version? I.e. height of the tyre, and the width of the tread from the outside of the lugs on one side to the outside of the lugs on the other? If they are "quite a bit bigger than they should be" in the 265 size it could be close enough to what I have been looking for Just wish somebody would make a 33x12.50R15 in that sort of pattern
  3. Can be caused by somebody taking the centre console out and inadvertently bending the operating rod running through the middle of the lever while doing this. You need to straighten the rod but it can be diffcult to get right!
  4. I have just bought some 316 stainless steel eye-bolt fixings for my boat. How would an M12 thread 316 grade stainless bolt compare in tensile strength compared to, say, mild steel stud bar and 8.8 grade high tensile bolts of the same size? I guess it will be somewhere in between but just wondered, and I am sure one of the learned engineering types on here will know the answer It probably won't matter because I suspect they will be stronger than the transom on the boat regardless, but was just curious.... just in case I ever have to tow something off them in an emergency. Ta Stephen
  5. Dare somebody to put a sticker on when Nige isn't looking that says "Sucks like a Vax" or perhaps a little cruder Well that is just showing off, I did mine with silicone Nice job as always
  6. Bumper spoiler is one piece and I have not tried removing it but it would be v easy to do using a small ditch I'm 8000 miles from mine at the moment, a bit far to pop home for a look. But to be honest I am not even sure the Td5 chassis have the holes for Jate rings? they might have....

    10x15

Southam Tyres do them because I have ordered them for people through work before now. Bluddy expensive though!
  8. The genuine ones are Bosch IIRC, because we had some from Bearmach a while back and they even had the LR logo stamped into the casing (except without the expensive box), and you can't get closer to Genuine than that
  9. I bet its not as good as that fine old hymn that starts "We stocked our ships full of British beer and bullets"
  10. OK thanks all Really interested in something not too far from Sussex area Will see what I can fit in though
  11. Woo hooo! The Argies are out! Possibly even more important than whether England win is that they don't, and I'm not even interested in football, certainly never thought I'd be rooting for the Germans Local radio is playing an appropriate song right now as I type: "Don't cry for me Argentina" :hysterical: :hysterical: Marvellous
  12. Hmmm neither can I but was sure it was there. Send a PM to Tony (white90) he found some cheap sensors I am sure, and I thought he posted it in the tech archive, supplier details etc. but don't have time to look at the moment.
  13. Yeah that is the petrol engine though, that the States will get. The diesel is still a cracker though, 160hp and 37mpg See here
  14. There is a post in the Tech Archive forum giving details of cheap ABS sensor suppliers I think
  15. What would be nice would be a Tdv6 in the Defender. Imagine a 90 with 190bhp and 325lb ft of torque woo hoo new underwear please it only weighs half as much as a D3 But sadly not to be.
  16. Excellent, thanks, will see how I can fit some of those into other demands on my time Billing will be a bit difficult as it is only 2 days before I go.... shame really would like to go to it but will be busy packing stuff up to send back Next year I shall ask the question before I book dates
  17. To save me ploughing through reams of waffle important information on a slow connection (using up time I don't really have before I leave!) is there anything interesting happening in the next three weeks or so that might be worth attending? Any forum events, shows, blah blah.... I'll be lurking in the Sussex area from this Sunday till 23 July so wondered if there was anything interesting on within a reasonable distance i.e. Shoreham, Slindon ... ? I know that flippin' Tony Cordell has managed to arrange his birthday to be about ten days too late so is everybody going to be busy getting things ready to break at that, or are you going to be Out There? Stephen
  18. Ah but I will be within about 30 miles of you by Sunday so they won't need to be sent that far
  19. 256 euros for an injector harness? They are having a laff, they should cost about £40 and you can fit it yourself with a couple of sockets and no more than an hour's labour, the harness doesn't need anything fancy to fit only if you change injectors or ECU. But the injector harness misfire is usually absent when cold, then gets worse when hot and stays worse, all the ones I can recall seeing are quite predictable like that, once it starts to fart and jump around it stays farting and jumping, doesn't come and go while driving. It could be a dud ECU, they do go pop, though mostly only the very early ones 99/00 sort of vintage. It could also be a problem with the crank sensor, as if the ECU loses the engine speed/position signal it will have a panic attack Really you need to know what fault codes are logged otherwise you are a bit in the dark with tracing it. I don't know what a dealer would charge to give you a fault code check but it only takes 5 minutes to do so should not be too pricey? Doesn't need to be a main dealer, could be done by an independent with Autologic or similar kit.
  20. Not too hot no! If you can see red rusty gunge then if nothing else it desperately needs cleaning and lots of grease.... but if there is any doubt (slightly noisy bearing for example) then change it as it'll let you down sooner rather than later. A delicate wheel bearing rumble rapidly becomes an Fing great big one!
  21. If there is a lot of play they are probably knackered. I don't have time to post full instructions at the moment but I think it is on here somewhere if you do a search, try International and Defender forums too, all the same technique You will need basic tools (sockets etc) plus a 52mm hub nut spanner
  22. would think it will be v slow process? takes a long time to inflate a pair of springs if they have gone flat overnight!
